2 KWF Traditional Japanese Karate: First US Seminar During June 12-14, 2015, KWF (Karatenomichi World Federation, will hold its first KWF Traditional Japanese Karate: US Seminar. Led by the legendary Karate Grand Master Mikio Yahara, KWF is a Tokyo-based non-profit organization with branches in over 50 countries and territories. The US Seminar is hosted by KWF America ( led by Sensei Tom Hyder of Glendale, Arizona. Recognizing the positive correlation between physical activity and mental agility, KWF will donate all net proceeds of the US Seminar to the Special Olympics of Arizona ( While KWF has its roots in Shotokan Karate, participants who are dedicated to the pursuit of authentic Karate, regardless of the particular style, are welcome to attend this seminar. As a traditional Japanese martial art, KWF goes beyond simple repetition of rote Karate moves. Instead, KWF is unique in its approach to making Traditional Japanese Karate applicable to our busy modern lives. At the KWF Traditional Japanese Karate: US Seminar, participants will be able to experience the KWF Way of Karate firsthand, and understand how our powerful techniques are created. Over the three days of the seminar, we will provide practical demonstrations of both our theory and practice. At the heart of the KWF Way of Karate is its five-point kinetic chain of dynamic motion. To teach you how to begin to utilize the KWF Way, the KWF US Seminar will cover three core concepts: Fundamentals, Applications, and Integration. 3 KWF Karate Principles Via the concept of "Gishin Ichinyo" (Unity of Technique and Mind) found in Budo Karate (Martial Art of Karate), through KWF Karate we learn to train and discipline both our mental outlook and physical skills, knowing that if we fail to do so we would be left only with what we might call our instincts. Through the disciplined practice of KWF Karate techniques we become familiar with the spirit necessary to prevail, and we ultimately come to appreciate the significance of the Zen expression that the "Ordinary Mind is the Way". As a lifelong undertaking, the goal of Karatenomichi ("Way of Karate") is for it to become a truly transformative "Way of Life." KWF as a Martial Art Consistent with Budo Karate, KWF Karate can fell an opponent with a single strike. To achieve such an overwhelming outcome, the muscles and joints of the body must in a single instant become compressed to their very limits. Such stored power, or energy, is further optimized through the body's five-point kinetic chain of motion dynamics, next focused on a single target, and ultimately released at maximum intensity. Spirit of KWF As we master KWF Karate as the art of the overwhelming single strike, we come to understand that we must infuse our every movement with the immediacy of such decisiveness. Similarly, we learn to approach every moment of our lives with complete earnestness, and to treat every precious second as if it were our last, which is the key to the art of the Way of Karate, as well as to an enlightened spirit. We continually undertake to assure that the art we practice is fully embodied in our skills, in our spirit, and even in our smallest actions. The more we hone our practice, the more compassion we will feel for others, the more we cultivate within ourselves a spirit of giving, and the more spiritual fulfillment we will find.
