1 ANGLIA RUSKIN JUDO RESEARCH GROUP (ARJRG) Report on Activities ~ Oct Feb 2014 The Anglia Ruskin Judo Research Group ARJRG was formed on 23 October 2012, World Judo Day. The Research Group provides a focus for judo related research activity at the University. It also acts as a vehicle to facilitate national and international partnerships and a context for the coaching and practice of judo. It embraces a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of judo. It is currently the only judo-specific research group active in the UK. The initiative builds on the internationally renowned coaching programme developed with the European Judo Union, and University s global reputation in this niche area of study. The research group also supports the education of coaches and the development of full-time athletes within the university. Aims The aims are: 1. To facilitate and engage in interdisciplinary judo related research activity. 2. To build international relations through research into judo. 3. To build cross discipline, intra-university research networks. 4. To impact on judo coaching methodologies. 5. To inform coaching practise and to contribute to a local, national and international judo environment of teaching, research and practice. Objectives The aims are supported by the achievement of the following objectives: 1. To create academic outputs in peer reviewed journals, international conferences, books, and articles aimed at the practitioner. 2. To bid for funding to support the scholarly activity and the maintenance of the community of practice. 3. The research into the Olympic Qualification Top 8 Study, was presented to UK Sport, and the British Judo Association coaches in The strategy adopted by the BJA in the preparations for the Rio Olympic Games is based on that research.
