4 Master Jou s 12th Annual Birthday Celebration Tai Chi Festival: July 13 &, Bruce La Carrubba, (862) Route 23, Wantage, NJ Saturday & Sunday Workshops (in alphabetical order by last name of Workshop Leader) 1. Taiji Conditioning (Saturday 3:20-4:40) Conditioning is a form of change. Conditioning found in taiji training (qigong/neigong) changes the body from its current condition to a state of harmony within itself. This workshop will cover exercises that condition yin energy and yang energy in the body. Yang energy conditioning training creates flexibility in the upper/lower gates, and strength in the core. Yin energy conditioning will be introduced and practiced with still meditation, and alternate breathing techniques. It is recommended that you bring water to this workshop. =>Colin Capaci, University of Bridgeport, Major: Martial Arts; 2nd Generation. Student of Master Jou s Teachings for 11 years - honoring his mentor Bruce LaCarrubba and as current apprentice to Dr. David Chandler. 2. Fire (the summer element)qigong (Saturday 4:40-5:50) This Qigong has a powerful fire rising (yang energy), and of course an opposing constricting energy (yin). Breath work is paramount. Maximum inhalation to maximum exhalation. Both organs and meridians will be discussed. This is a movement Qigong, therefore activation of K-1 has a major role as everything we train is based on the Taiji Tu => Andy Capuccio is a personal apprentice to Dr.Christopher Viggiano. He is the founder of Everspring Martial and Healing Arts, a satellite school of the Shen Wu Dao System. Andy is on the board of directors of Sword Stick Society International, as spokesperson and inductee on the United Fellowship of Martial Artists, a consultant to the Mataw Guro Association and a former faculty member of the Health Options Institute in Bethlehem, PA. He teaches Tai Chi Quan and Qigong. He teaches privately at his studio in Swiftwater, PA and conducts workshops in PA and NJ Chan Ssu Chin Workshop. (Saturday 2:00-3:10) At the core of Tai Chi Chuan is a spiral energy process called the Chan Ssu Chin, a reeling silk exercise that is a full range of motion moving meditation. It is based on the Yin/Yang symbol for the Tai Chi Tu as it is more accurately called. The Tai Chi Tu, which translates as supreme ultimate sphere, is a twodimensional depiction of a multidimensional event. The Chan Ssu Chin exercise uses the body s major joints to follow the map of the Tai Chi Tu and aligns with the great energizing pattern of the galaxy, the spiral. The basic set opens the joints and is used as both a dynamic healing therapy as well as a primary teaching of the martial aspects of TaiChiChuan. In this seminar the participants will be introduced to the basic healing movements, martial techniques, and theory behind the Chan Ssu Chin exercises, as well as get a taste of the energy focus of Tai Chi Chuan =>Dr. David Chandler, Quest Tai Chi, New London, CT.

The postures and actions are simple, compact, and brisk, but have profound meanings and are very practical. For example, 'Lazy To Tie Coat' is an attack on the opponent's face and body. The upper hand is used to uproot and the lower hand is used to fa-ching Wu (Hao) style is one of the five main tai chi styles in China. It puts much emphasis on some torso and internal requirements. One of the theories as to why Wu (Hao) style tai chi has not become as popular as its contemporaries, such as Yang style or Chen style, was that its founders, in keeping with their tradition, would only let descendents practice tai chi for their own health and self-defense, but would not let them become professional tai chi teachers. 10 30. Anatomy of Movement in Taiji (Saturday 4:40-5:50) This class will analyze physical body alignment ( Li ) through an understanding of Yang Li (skeletal systems ) and Yin Li ( muscular systems ). Without the awareness of how these systems are interconnected, Taiji is just an empty movement or activity. As one gains a knowledge of proper skeleton alignment; rooting, weight shifting and rotational skills a stronger foundation will result. This in turn will limit injuries and enhance the principles of the Art of Taiji. => Jim Smith, North Jersey Health Preservation Association. 11 34. Tai Chi, Qigong, and Pain Relief (Sunday 10:20-11:30) Those of us who have been practicing Tai Chi or Qigong daily know how well it works as a pain reliever - especially for chronic pain. Research also points to evidence that it is also effective as a preventative for a myriad of physical ailments including heart failure, cardiopulmonary respiratory disease, diabetes, shingles, digestive disorders, Parkinson's disease, many types of cancer, arthritis and auto-immune disorders. But HOW? What is the actual mechanism that enables Tai Chi and Qigong to work? Physicians prescribed aspirin for headaches decades before science figured out exactly how it works (which wasn't until the seventies), but they are much less likely to encourage their patients to try Tai Chi until scientists have figured out how it works. Oddly enough, the science into health also reveals some of the "secrets" in why Taijiquan works better than external martial arts in a physical altercation. => Dr. CJ Rhoads. has been studying Taijiquan for twenty four years. She was also named the National Champion and Gold Medal winner in Female Push Hands in October 2009 in the International Chinese Martial Arts Tournament circuit Chinese Internal Family Gong Fu The next three workshops are based upon the Philosophy of Wuji to Taiji, the Sciences of Human Anatomy / Physiology / Physics and the Art of Self Expression... and of course Master Jou's Master Key which is re-enforced through charts, handouts, demonstrations and applications. This type of refinement process can be applied to any Martial Arts Style bringing about for its practitioners a profound transformational change in one's overall health, spiritual attainment, & martial prowess. => Dr. Christopher M. (Saturday 9:00-10:10) So many people pursue Yang Style Taiji for its Yin, gentle, flowing choreographed movement with the highly sought after esoteric affects associated with the timely practice. More often than not, this becomes a mistaken interpretation of the what Taiji is. Well, this workshop is here to "close-the-door" on that misconception and teach the complimentary opposite techniques and practices that comprise the totality of this art. You'll never understand Yin if you don't know what Yang is! Taiji Quan, also called Tai Chi Chuan or simply Tai Chi is a martial art! And as with all martial arts, it never teaches you to move slowly when you need to put your practice into real life situations. Have you ever seen anyone engage in combat in "slow motion?" Or trip and fall in slow-motion? No, it just doesn't happen! That's why we need to understand and practice the Yin and YANG of Taiji Quan. Learn how Shifu Walker brings to "life" the Yang side of this wonderful art in practices and exercises that will build your Qi, strengthen your body, sharpen your mind, raise your spirit and give you balance in your Taiji practice. => Dr. Jonathan Walker (yangqichen@aol.com) Page 10 of 10 Last saved: July 11, 2013
