2 Dear Competitors, Coaches & Officials; On behalf of USA Karate, I would like to invite you to join us at the 2015 USA National Karate Championships & US Team Trials. This exciting event features competition for all ages and skill levels, and selects the members of our Junior and Senior National Teams. This year s competition will be hosted at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This fantastic venue will play host to four days of exciting competition. Our Headquarters Hotel will be the Embassy Suites Fort Lauderdale 17 th Street and will host our certification courses, technical seminars, and other events. In addition to top- level competition, we will again host a number of seminars and courses. I encourage everyone to take part in one of our high- level seminars and courses. Be it the Referee, or the Dan Certification Exam; make your plans to participate in these events that will make you a better all- around karate- ka. Each year, the National Championships continues to grow and reassure it s reputation as the premier domestic karate event in the United States, and this year s event is looking to be our best and biggest ever. The 21st event of its kind hosted by USA Karate will be held July 15-19, 2015 at the Broward County Convention Center. 5 COMPETITOR REGISTRATION Online Registration Register online by clicking here Using our convenient online registration is the fastest, easiest and best way to register for this event. Online registration will be processed and completed within 48 hours and you will be able to verify your information quickly and easily. Online registration will be open until 12:00am on July 15. Paper Registration Alternately, you may complete and submit the enclosed registration form. Paper registration will take 4-6 weeks to be processed and appear in the online application search. 7 Rules of Competition Non- Elite Divisions USANKF Rules of Competition will be used click below to view rules Elite Divisions WKF Rules of Competition will be used Protective Equipment The following protective equipment is required for all kumite competitors: Red/Blue USA- NKF/WKF Approved Gloves/Mitts White/Red/Blue USA- NKF/WKF Approved Shin/Instep Protectors Mouth Guard WKF Approved Chest Protector (Females in elite kumite divisions) Groin Protector (All male competitors) WKF Approved Body Armor (All Elite Categories) The following protective equipment is recommended in Elite Divisions: WKF Approved Face Mask (12-13 & Categories Only) Competitors in other categories may wear the additional WKF Approved Equipment in accordance with the WKF/USA Karate Rules of Competition Equipment Suppliers Weigh- In A variety of vendors will be on- site to sell USA- NKF approved equipment, but it is recommended to purchase equipment in advance of the competition because demand is high while onsite and supplies will be limited. Athlete weigh- in is required for all Elite/Team Trial divisions. All athletes must present a current US Passport in order to be weighed in and compete in an Elite/Team Trial division. Athletes who cannot provide a current US Passport at the time of weigh- in will not be eligible to compete in an Elite/Team Trial division.

8 USA Karate Referee/Judge Certification USA Karate will host a Referee/Judge Certification Course Wednesday, July 15 that will issue certifications up to Kumite Referee A & Kata Judge A. Your registration fee will cover both Kata and Kumite course, and every official is encouraged to work to attain both licenses. USA Karate now issues the coveted Karate Referee Badge to those individuals who have attained both Kumite Referee A and Kata Judge A licenses. Referee/ Judge Certification Course: Wednesday, July 15 Kumite/Kata Certification Course Fee: $200 Referee/Judge Certification Course Registration is available online only! USA Karate Officials who have attained the Karate Referee standard (Kumite Referee A & Kata Judge A) may participate in the course at no charge. USA Karate Officials who have a Kumite Referee A are entitled to a 50% discount. Please contact natoffice@usankf.org for more details. Referees not participating in the certification course, but attending the championships are required to register online at **Please note all referees will be required to hold a current USANKF membership as well as completed SafeSport training. Step 3 Complete a Background Check through NCSI A complete background check is required through Click Start Your Background Screening Now then enter self registra3on number , enter your informa3on as requested and provide legal authoriza0on and cer0fica0on. 9 USA Karate Coaches Creden1al and Floor Access Pass (Required) Event Floor Creden-al and Access Pass: Online ONLY Pricing: $75 To obtain a Coaches Creden0al and Floor Access Pass, you must register in advance, online by visi$ng the Na$onal Championships tab via You MUST complete all Safe Sport requirements, upload a valid cer#ficate and submit the $75.00 fee before arriving onsite. There will be no way to register for the Coaches Creden4al and Floor Access Pass on- site. The Safe Sport requirements must be completed and verified by USA Karate in advance of the compe&&on. The next page outlines detailed instruc3ons to apply for this pass. Applica'ons submi/ed a2er July 1 st will incur a $50 late fee. NO EXCEPTIONS! USA Karate Coaches Seminar (Optional) Coaching Education Certification Course: Wednesday, July 15 Course Pricing: $125 A coaching seminar will be held on- site for those interested in the developmental coaching educa&on. This seminar is not required, but is a valuable learning tool for all member coaches. Please follow the steps below to assist you in correctly comple4ng each sec'on. Remember forms that are filled out incorrectly and/or incompletely will not be processed and will be assessed a late fee. To avoid late fees, be sure to review the form carefully before submi/ng. If you are unsure about these forms, please have them reviewed by your Karate instructor. USA Karate is not responsible for incomplete, incorrect, or illegible informa-on. 1) Attach a passport size photo to the registration - Registrations without a photo will not be processed and will be assessed a late fee 2) Indicate the following information: a. USA- NKF Member Number (all National Championships and Team Trials competitors must be USA Karate/USA- NKF members) i. Your membership number may have changed from last year ii. All memberships expire on December 31. If you have not purchased a membership for 2015, you may do so at in the Member Resources section iii. The member number is 4-5 digits long iv. You can look up your member number at in the Member Resources section b. Date of Birth (please use the mm/dd/yyyy format exp: 03/11/1980 = March 11, 1980) c. Zip Code d. Gender e. Weight in POUNDS (not KILOGRAMS) f. Skill level i. Changes were made to the skill levels in Please review the following carefully! ii. Beginner 8 th kyu and under/less than 1 year of training iii. Novice 7 th kyu- 5 th kyu/1-2 years of training iv. Intermediate 4 th kyu- 2 nd kyu/2-4 years of training v. Advanced - 1 st kyu and higher/4 years or more of training vi. Elite US Team Trial Divisions/Recommended rank of 1 st Dan or higher and 5+ years of training vii. All brown belts must compete in intermediate or higher divisions viii. All black belts must compete in advanced or higher divisions ix. Athletes who participate in a beginner, novice, or intermediate division must compete in that skill level for all divisions x. An athlete who participates in an elite division may compete in an advanced division in another category (Exp: Athletes may compete in Elite Kumite and Advanced Kata, but may not compete in Elite Kumite and Advanced Kata) xi. Athletes who compete in Elite Kata may not compete in any other Kata division xii. Athletes who medal in any skill level must move up to the next higher skill level the following year (Exp: An athlete who medaled in a Novice category in 2014 must compete in the Intermediate or higher category in 2015) xiii. The ultimate placement of athletes in the correct skill level is the responsibility of both the athlete and their coach/instructor. We rely on the integrity of all of our participants to ensure for the safest and most fair competition. Should an athlete be found to purposefully misrepresent their skill level for the purpose of competitive advantage, appropriate actions may be taken against both the athlete and the coach/instructor 3) Indicate divisions you will participate in using a check mark and the division number i. Remember - There are restrictions in place regarding what divisions you may compete in. ii. You must compete at the same age for all divisions iii. If you compete in Elite Kata, you may compete in either Elite or Advanced (Non- Elite) kumite. You may not compete in a division lower than advanced. iv. If you compete in Elite Kumite, you may compete in Elite or Advanced (Non- Elite) Kata. You may not compete in a division lower than advanced. v. Competitors over age 34 may compete in age divisions, however they must then compete in the age group for all categories (ex: someone 37 years of age may enter kata, but they then must compete in kumite, not 35+ kumite) vi. You may compete in only one weight restricted division vii. You do not need to submit a birth certificate or proof of citizenship with this application.
