3 TOURNAMENT GUIDELINES & RULES:: SHIAI: I.J.F. rules apply unless otherwise announced by the Organizers of the Edmonton International. Judo Canada and Judo Alberta regulations as of the tournament date to be enforced. The Tournament Director reserves the right to make any changes in the best interest of the tournament and contestants. Early Bloomer - Complete the attached Early Bloomer Waiver & submit to edmonton_international@yahoo.ca Note: U18, U21 & Veteran athletes who fight in the same weight category in a Senior division on Sunday will NOT have to weigh in twice; BUT, check in at registration is required on Saturday by 4 PM for the Sunday Senior division. U10 & U12 Competitors or designate must confirm attendance before 7 PM Friday, March 10 and provide Judo Canada membership card. LIMIT OF 200 U10/U12 TOTAL ENTRIES. Where possible, U10 & U12 groups will be made of up to 4 judoka of like age and weight as submitted. Submission of incorrect or guessed weights could eliminate a judoka from participating. U10 & U minute non-stop matches; possible mixed gender determined by age and reported weights. Categories will consist of 4 competitors where possible and will compete round robin. U14-2 minute matches COMPETITION FORMAT (# of competitors) U16-3 minute matches Divisions of 2: best 2 out of 3 U18-4 minute matches Divisions of 3, 4 and 5: round robin U21-4 minute matches Divisions of 6 & 7: pooled Senior Men - 5 minute matches Divisions of 8 or more: modified double knockout Senior Women 4 minute matches Seeding for Senior Divisions as posted on Judo Canada s website on Saturday, March 4, 2017 Veterans - 3 minute matches Although the focus of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) is on the athlete competing at the International and National levels, all judo events in Canada are subject to Canada s Anti-doping Policy and are therefore subject to unannounced doping control. To learn more about this policy, athletes should be advised to take the following steps: Check the Global DRO ( to determine if any prescription or over-the-counter medications or treatments are banned by the WADA Prohibited List. Review medical exemptions requirements ( if you require the use of a banned medication for a legitimate medical reason. Do not use supplements, or take precautions prior to doing so. Supplement products cannot be verified by the CCES or in the Global DRO. A lack of industry and government regulation makes it impossible to confirm their ingredients. 8 Kata Competition & Clinic This is one of the most popular Kata competitions in Western Canada and we want you to participate! The Edmonton International Judo Championship will be hosting a Kata competition on Friday, March 10 in the Ice Palace at West Edmonton Mall starting at 5 pm. We will continue to have U21 nage no kata and first 3 sets nage no kata. As well as the old faithfuls - Nage no Kata, Ju no Kata, Katame no Kata, Kodokan Goshinjutsu and Kime no Kata. If you or someone you know is just starting to practice a Kata, come out and compete the atmosphere and experience can t be beat! Encourage others to attend this great competition and learning experience. While entry fees are only $40 per Kata per team, the friendship and camaraderie that is developed among the Kata participants is priceless. Another event not to be missed is the Kata Clinic offered by Kata Champions Gord Okamura and Kelly Palmer, whose record includes Canadian Champions, Pan American Champions and 4 European medals. At the IJF World Kata Championships, they have consistently placed in the top ten; including 5th in 2015 in Amsterdam and 7th in 2016 in Malta. In 2016, they attended a two-day EJU Kata Clinic in Austria and a two-day IJF Kodokan Kata Clinc in Malta. Come and hear some of the latest details!
