3 RULES 1. Local and State Rules govern this competition. 2. Exhibitors are responsible to read the Competition Guidelines and to abide by them. 3. If you need assistance determining the Division and/or Class, please contact the Exhibits Office at (714) or Inquiries will be responded to within 72 business hours. Personal assistance is also available on Help Days; see Help with Entering on page Causes for Disqualification Non-compliance to the Competition and OC Fair Guidelines. Entries over the maximum amount allowed will not be accepted. Collections cannot differ from the uploaded image. Items previously entered in the OC Fair will be disqualified. Disqualified entries may not be displayed and must be picked up when notified. 5. Entry fees are non-refundable. There will be no refunds for any reason. By entering the competition you are confirming that you accept the no refund policy. 6. Collections is a juried competition. Not all Adult entries will be accepted. All youth collections are accepted if rules are followed. 7. A Collection is a minimum of 5 items and a maximum of 10 items. Items such as pins, patches, buttons, matchbooks etc., that are mounted in a shadow box, display case or other type of container may exceed the maximum of 10 items. Collections mounted on boards will not be accepted. The size of the case or container cannot exceed 24 inches x 18 inches. A matching pair is considered a single item. Collections requiring more than 36 inches of display shelf require prior approval from the Program Coordinator Notify the Program Coordinator to request any special display needs. 8. Items made by the exhibitor are not considered collectibles for this show. 9. Entires previously exhibited at the OC Fair are not eligible. 10. Entries may be limited or not displayed based on size, content, subject material, or for any reason determined not in the best interest of the OC Fair. Final acceptance of the entry will be left to the discretion of the Collections Program Coordinator. There will be no guns, knives or artillery displayed. No food items or live plants. 11. To safeguard exhibits, upon delivery, collections will be received at the door and set up by OC Fair staff for judging. Judging is not based on how it is displayed on the table or in the case. 12. All entries will be displayed in locked cases provided by the OC Fair unless hung. Although reasonable efforts will be undertaken to safeguard exhibitors property against loss, damage or theft, neither the State of California nor the OC Fair & Event Center will be responsible for any loss, damage or theft of exhibitors property brought on the premises during the period of the OC Fair. Every precaution will be taken in the handling and exhibiting of entries. 13. Exhibits must be picked up on Entry Pickup Day, failure to do so may result in the items being discarded. 1
4 ELIGIBILITY Adult Divisions: Open to Southern California residents, ages 18 and older. Youth Divisions Open to youth ages 5-17 (by July 14, ) who live, attend school, or are club members in Orange County, CA. ENTRY LIMIT 2 collections per exhibitor 1 entry per class The second collection entered must be different from the first. oc exhibitor FAIR TICKET Exhibitors will receive one (1) OC Fair admission ticket, at time of entry delivery. One (1) ticket per exhibitor, not one per entry. Tickets are valid any day the Fair is open. If none of your entries were accepted for exhibition, one (1) free admission ticket will be available for pickup at the Guest Relations Booth located outside the Main (Blue) Gate entrance when the Fair is open. Please bring a photo ID to claim your ticket. Juried show (Adult divisions only) Adult Collections is a juried competition. In an effort to ensure entries meet the basic requirements to participate and are entered in the most correct or appropriate categories, adult entries will be prejuried. Collections will be judged first from uploaded images viewed online to determine if the submitted entry meets the requirements and the subjective standards for exhibition set by the judges. Decisions are final and cannot be protested. Reassignment of Entry Division or Class Judges and/or the Program Coordinator have the option of reassigning an entry to a more appropriate division or class or may combine divisions or classes to create an adequate judging pool. Nonetheless, it is the responsibility of exhibitors to enter work in the appropriate class. Failure to enter the appropriate class may result in disqualification. Acceptance for Exhibition You will be notified by with the results of the first round judging. Please check your Spam/Junk folder. Only accepted work is to be delivered on the Entry Delivery Day. First Round Judging acceptance does not guarantee acceptance for exhibition. The delivered entries may still be judged out for not complying with the competition rules and guidelines. 2
5 HOW TO ENTER Online Entry Deadline: Thursday, June 1, by 6 pm 1. Review the Collections Rules and OC Fair Guidelines. 2. Adult Divisions: Enter and upload photo(s) of your entry online. Click on the button or go to: ocfair.fairmanager.com 3. After submitting your entry and paying the processing fee online you will be prompted to click on UPLOAD MEDIA. 4. Up to three photos per collection, (JPG/JPEG, 5MB or less each), may be uploaded: one displaying the items you wish to exhibit, one to show detail and one showing your entire collection. 5. The photo showing your entire collection may, instead, be brought in with the collection on Entry Delivery Day. 6. For additional assistance see Help with Entering below or click here for an Image Preparation Guide. 7. Youth Divisions: Youth Divisions are not juried and do not require a photo upload. Click on the ENTER HERE button or go to: ocfair.fairmanager.com Exhibitor Name Entries must be made under the name of the individual whose collection it is. Enter using the exhibitor s name as it will appear on the display tag. This also applies to all youth entries. Do not use business or fictitious names. There are no team entries. Last year s accounts are no longer valid. All entrants must create a new account. Entry Confirmation An notification and confirmation will be sent immediately after your online payment is received If the confirmation does not arrive shortly after submitting payment, please check your Spam/Junk folder before contacting the OC Fair. Entry Fees Entry fees are payable online with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Amex). No refunds will be issued. Adult Divisions - $5 per entry. Youth Divisions - $3 per entry. Unclaimed items and ribbons become the property of the OC Fair and will be discarded. NOTE: Junior (ages 9-12) and Blue Ribbon Kids (ages 5-8) collections will be picked up in the Kids Explorium tent, where it was displayed. The OC Fair & Event Center is not responsible for exhibits left after this date. 4
7 judging Qualified judges are selected by the Program Coordinator and are selected from local professionals and individuals who are experienced and highly qualified in their fields. Each year the Program Coordinator may choose new judges or judges may judge different divisions from year to year. The judges decision is final. Adult Divisions Placed using the American Judging System where exhibits are ranked one against another. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place and Honorable Mention may be awarded in each class if judges so determine. More than one Honorable Mention per class may be awarded. 1st Place winners will compete for Best of Show. Junior & Young Adult Divisions Placed using the Danish Judging System where each entry is judged on how well it meets a standard rather than how it compares to other entries. Entries are judged Blue (superior), Red (very good) or White (average) Award. There may be more than one Blue, Red or White Award per class. All Blue Awards will then compete, using the American Judging System, for Best of Class. Those chosen for Best of Class will compete for Division Winner. Blue Ribbon Kids All Blue Ribbon Kids (ages 5-8) receive a special ribbon. The entries are not judged and are not eligible for cash awards. Judge s Award Additional awards may be made at the discretion of each judge for outstanding entries that exhibit special qualities that the judge feel deserves to be recognized. Disqualified Entries If an entry is disqualified after judging is complete, the judge will not change the status of awards given for other entries. 5

Award checks will be made payable to the exhibitor whose name is indicated on the entry form and mailed within 30 days after the close of the OC Fair. Judging Results All accepted entries will be displayed in the Collections Gallery with any awards received. Juniors (ages 9-12) and Blue Ribbon Kids (ages 5-8) collections will be displayed in the Kids Explorium. Results will be posted online around the second week of the OC Fair at ocfair.com/results. Please do not call or for competition results. Awards Ceremony Saturday, August 12, 1:30-2:30 pm Hosted on the OC Promenade Main Stage. Award recipients recognized include: Best of Show, Most Unusual, Most Diverse, Most Zany, Vintage Charm, Division Winners (Youth) and Adult Best of Class. Invitations will be sent to the provided at entry registration. All entrants and the general public are welcome to attend the ceremony. 6
9 HOW TO PREPARE Collections Competition Guide Display Card (Required) An attractive, large-print display card (not to exceed 5 inches x 7 inches) is required alongside the entry. The quality and completeness of the display card will be a consideration in judging. Frames will be supplied for the display card. Please include the following information: When the collection was started. How the collection was done (how/why it was collected). Date(s) of the oldest item(s) in the collection. Number of items in the entire collection. Any other interesting information about the collection. Exhibitor s name should not appear on the front of the Display Card. Label Your Collection Each collection item must be labeled inconspicuously with a number indicating its place in the collection (i.e., 1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc.). Do not place numbers on the front of the articles. Photo of Entire Collection Please provide a photo of the entire Collection, if possible. This photo is to be used for judging purposes only. You may upload this photo during the online entry process or if you prefer, bring it with your entry on Entry Delivery Day. Contact the Program Coordinator with any special display needs or requests. 7

Class 18: Books, Magazines, Paper & Ephemera Includes but is not limited to: Posters, Postcards, Documents, Photos, Matchbooks, Cards, Tickets, Menus, Labels, etc. 8
