1 Muay Thai Grading Aberdeen martial arts group
2 Grading Structure Introduction The AMAG Muay Thai Grading is a structured grading system that has been designed to test your knowledge of the core curriculum taught at AMAG. It is also designed to test your heart and your ability to perform under a certain amount of pressure. If it is your first grading then your instructor will tell you which grade you can test under and this usually starts at the White Arm Band. The Grades are as follows: Arm Band Khan Amount of training White Arm Band 1st Khan Around 1 years training Yellow Arm Band 2nd Khan Around 1-2 years training Green Arm Band 3rd Khan Around 2-3 years training Purple Arm Band 4th Khan Around 3-4 years training Brown Arm Band 5th Khan Around 4-5 years training The remaining sections detail the requirements for testing and also outline what you will be tested on depending on your level. Uniform Men: Muay Thai Shorts, Club T-shirt or Topless & Anklets (optional) Women: Muay Thai Shorts, Club T-shirt or Fight Top & Anklets (optional) Respects Respects must be paid at all times. Some things to look out for: Start of a round End of a round If an instructor gives you an instruction If in doubt Wai Make sure it is seen 2
3 Areas of Testing The grading has three main areas where you will be tested. Stage Demonstration of techniques Shadow boxing Rounds Comment Grading instructor will ask the student to demonstrate techniques in the air from the list of 50 Moves of Muay Thai. The moves are documented but you can also ask your instructor for any help. Lower levels will be expected to know the fundamental techniques whilst the higher levels will be expected to know some of the more exotic techniques. Demonstrate your moves in free form at the grading instructors command 5 x 3 Minutes rounds with 1 minutes rest. You have to do a blitz inside the rest period before resting, depending on your level. See Rest Period section below. How You Will Be Tested In Each Round You are tested within the rounds depending on the level you are testing at. The way the grading works is that you are expected to learn a number of different series for each round and on the day you will be expected to demonstrate some of the series you have learned. This way you will understand all the curriculum for your particular level but only demonstrate some of the series on the day. For example, Round 1 has four different series in it. As a yellow arm band you will be expected to know Series 1 and Series 2. However, on the day you will be expected to demonstrate only one of the two inside your Round 1 e.g. Series 2. 3
