This unique class will combine stretching, movement and other fitness concepts with running, jumping, throwing and other skills used in track and field. Hula hoops, jump ropes, parachutes, soft balls and Frisbees, hurdles and other equipment will help guide us through fitness activities and track and field events in a safe environment. The session will conclude with a fun-filled track and field meet on the last day of class. All of their programs focus on teamwork and sportsmanship. Multi-Sport This is for the all-around athlete who wants to take a shot at different sports! Participants will be active working on balance, large motor skills and hand-eye coordination while also learning the rules of baseball, football, floor hockey, soccer, basketball and more! We will focus on a new sport each class and work on basic rules and mechanics all while we play games that keep everyone moving. The program begins with instruction, then game play will follow! 5 CLASSES ATY04-30 ATY04-31 Archery Archery Archery participants will learn the parts of an arrow and recurve bow, the basics of using a recurve bow, and fundamental shooting skills in an extremely safe environment. Blunt tipped arrows, bows, and targets are provided. 3 Villa Park Youth Soccer League The Village of Villa Park is pleased to offer this affordable soccer team grade-level experience for children in Villa Park and beyond. The Villa Park Youth Soccer League will hold games on turday mornings for 7 consecutive weeks beginning April 7, Participants are randomly assigned to a team the week of March 12. Players must purchase a reversible jersey for $17. Volunteer Coach Applications are available upon request to SEarl@invillapark.com. Practices are held one day per week (12U two days per week) between the hours of 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm Please indicate the days you are available to practice on your registration form. We will do our best to honor car pool/friend requests through March 10. Requests to be on a particular team are not honored. A coach is a positive role model encouraging and demonstrating sportsmanship, safety, patience and enthusiasm. All coaches are required to participate in a screening process that includes a criminal background check. 4 Winter/Spring 2018 Sports Martial Arts Welcome to Villa Park Tang Soo Do where future Black Belt leaders are born. Master Tony Perkins, in cooperation with Eagle Academy of Martial Arts, employs his 30 years of teaching experience to create a safe, fun and enriching experience for students of all ages. Participants will learn the dynamic punches and kicks of the Korean art of Tang Soo Do, along with the practical self-defense applications of Hapkido. Classes are designed to instill confidence, promote self-discipline and improve physical fitness and concentration of students at any ability level. Uniforms and belt ranking are optional. COMMUNITY RECREATION BUILDING, 320 E. WILDWOOD AVE, VILLA PARK Little Champions Training designed for our youngest martial artists of all ranks. Through the use of soft targets, focused games and obstacle courses, students will learn the basic stances, punches, kicks and blocks used in the Martial Arts. In addition, they will improve their gross motor skills, balance and coordination. Emphasized throughout the lessons are the essential tenets of concentration, respect and self-control. This fast paced program is designed to move beyond basic skills to practical application of techniques. Classes include targeting, one-on-one self-defense skills and sparring drills. MAY01-31 Th 7-7:45 pm Advanced training provided to returning kids who hold the rank of orange/green through brown belt. This program takes a youth centered approach and is designed for the intermediate belts focusing on rank required skills and techniques. High energy classes combine, dynamic kicking and punching drills, joint locks and escapes, sparring and traditional weaponry as appropriate to the student s rank. Emphasis is placed on physical fitness, practical self-defense and martial arts etiquette and philosophy. All lessons are tailored to student s age, experience level and physical abilities. Advanced, intermediate and beginner hitters can all benefit from our step-by-step approach to learning and swing analysis. Pitchers work on the form needed to increase the speed of the fastball and protect their throwing arm. Boys learn the rocker step for pitching as well as various age appropriate grips. Girls learn the windmill form of pitching and different grips. Catchers are taught how to help get strike calls for their team. Fielding pop-ups, balls in the dirt and bunts with the proper form can catch any coach s attention. Bring a mitt, bat and labeled water bottle. 5 Volleyball Skills Clinic This clinic is a must for players of all skill levels trying to improve on the fundamentals or learn the game for the first time. We will assist players with their skills and knowledge of passing, serving, defense, setting, blocking and hitting. Players will also work on technique, set location, play sets, footwork and overall knowledge of the game. They will learn offensive and defensive systems through team drills and game play aimed at developing the whole player as well as learning teamwork and sportsmanship.
