2 As part of the 2016 Montreal International Open, Karate Québec is bringing forth new features and rules which are very important for all participants. So whether you are an athlete, a coach or an official, please read this information carefully. 1. GENERAL INFORMATION a. Venue Seminar and competition Centre multisports de Vaudreuil 3093, boul. de la Gare Vaudreuil, QC CANADA J7V 9R2 b. Karate seminar Friday and Saturday, May 13-14, 2016 c. Conference with Tom Scott - Saturday, May 14, 2016; 1:00pm to 1:45pm d. Officials seminar Saturday May 14, 2016; 9:00am to 4:00pm Centre de formation professionnelle Paul-Gérin-Lajoie 400, ave. St-Charles Pavillon A Vaudreuil-Dorion, QC J7V 6B1 (Situated approximately 10 minutes from the venue and the hotels) e. Montreal International Open - Sunday, May 15, 2016; 9:00am to 6:00pm Participants registration : Starting at 7:30AM f. Competition schedule. The competition will start at 9:00am with kata for all divisions under 14.. The kumite for all divisions under 14 will follow right after.. Once under 14 divisions are completed, we will run kata for all 14 and up.. The kumite for all 14 and up divisions will follow right after. A detailed scheduled will be made available on the Sport Data Montreal International Open page on Friday May 13, RULES The 2016 MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL OPEN is open to all participants 8 years old and up, green belt and up, members and non-members practicing all karate styles and associations. All kata and kumite divisions will be judged according to the current WKF (World Karate Federation) rules with slight modifications. KATA Kata divisions will be judged by flags as follows: - Intermediate, under 18 years old : will perform kata simultaneously no repechage - Intermediate, 18 years old and above : will perform kata individually no repechage - Advanced, under 14 years old : will perform kata simultaneously no repechage - Advanced 14 years old and above : will perform kata individually no repechage - Elite Juniors (12 to 17 years old) : will perform kata individually no repechage - Elite Seniors (16 years old and above) : will perform kata individually with repechage AWAD division: will perform kata individually and will be judged by points. 2

3 Number of katas required Intermediate: Advanced: Athletes may repeat the same kata during preliminary rounds but must present a different kata in the final round (An athlete may not repeat any kata in the gold medal round). Athletes must be able to present at least 3 katas which may be repeated. The same kata may not be repeated in two consecutive rounds. Elite Youth (12-13 years old): Elite 14 years old and up: Athletes must be able to present at least 3 katas which may be repeated. The same kata may not be repeated in two consecutive rounds. Athletes must present a different kata in each round and may not repeat any kata. NOTE: Only katas from the official kata list may be performed. Appendix A presents the list of Official katas. All protection equipment must be officially WKF or PKF approved or an equivalent style that must perform like WKF approved equipment Mandatory kumite equipment INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED - Gloves/Hand protection (1 pair red OR blue) - Foot and shin protectors (1 pair red OR blue) - Mouthguard - Body protector (recommended) - Groin cup/protector for male athletes - Chest protector for female athletes (recommended for years old divisions and mandatory for 14 years and above divisions) - Belts (1 red AND 1 blue) - Karate-gi respecting WKF rules Mandatory kumite equipment - ELITE - Gloves/Hand protection (1 pair red AND 1 pair blue) - Foot and shin protectors (1 pair red AND 1 pair blue) 3

4 - Mouthguard - Body protector (recommended for years old divisions and mandatory in 14 years and above divisions) - Groin cup/protector for male athletes - Chest protector for female athletes (recommended for years old divisions and mandatory for 14 years and above divisions) - Belts (1 red AND 1 blue) - Karate-gi respecting WKF rules Female competitors may wear a WKF homologated, or equivalent, black plain fabric head scarf covering the air, but not the throat area. Any other head covering will not be permitted. 3. OFFICIALS All officials holding a valid provincial, national, continental or WKF world official s license are welcomed to officiate at the 2016 Montreal International Open. To register as an official, please contact Karate Québec`s Chief Official, Yaro Tarana by at comite.arbitrage@karatequebec.com. 4. OFFICIALS SEMINAR As part of the Montreal International Open, Karate Québec, in collaboration with Karate Canada, is holding an officials seminar on Saturday May 14, This clinic will be led by Yaro Tarana Chief Official for Karate Québec and Karate Canada. During this seminar, participants who wish to obtain or increase their national or provincial (Québec) licence may write the required exams. In order to register to the officials seminar and exams, please complete the registration for below or contact Yaro Tarana at comite.arbitrage@karatequebec.com. To register: 5.
