2 THE SYSTEM OF EFFECTIVE SELF-DEFENCE TRUE GENIUS LIES IN SIMPLICITY, BUT SIMPLE DOESN T MEAN PRIMI- TIVE, SAID EINSTEIN Alexei Alexeevich Kadochnikov Т his thin line between simplicity and genius is the basis of the unique system of personal safety technique and effective self-defence, unparalleled and available to any person of any age. To master it one needs neither athletic qualities nor specific knowledge. Actually, the situation is quite the opposite. After the first brief contact with the system, you will be eager to know more about the abilities of your body and mind. Having quickly acquired what they came for the self-assuredness and skills of effective self-defence many people continue practicing the Kadochnikoff system for the sake of self-development and raising their awareness of themselves and their place in the world around them. Formally, there are three basic levels of practice in mastering the System:
3 Level one COMBAT SKILLS The main task on this level is to teach your body to move in the most efficient way and rid your muscles of fear and tension. This is why the first step in training is special exercises that help to control the fear widely affecting the body and the mind, such as: specific massage, skill of muscular relaxation and ability to negotiate corners and obstacles without harm. Softly meet the attacks of the opponent. Performing those simple exercises will allow you to switch on the mechanism of muscle memory. As soon as your body stops accumulating fear and tension in your muscles, you will be able to control it as one perfectly co-ordinated machine. The energy flows where your attention is focused, so a trained body is able to carry out any complicated task the brain gives it. You will not need crude and harsh mechanical moves that your body robotically performs. You will learn to move softly and swiftly instead, using your whole body, distributing the effort all over it. In such a mode you will be able to perform as long, as it is required without getting tired. You will not even break into a sweat. Is it hard to believe? It does sound a bit incredible. However, it is only the first impression. There exist scientific grounds for that. The exhaustion starts accumulating in the brain cortex, and only after that the muscles begin to tire. When the brain is not prepared to solve a problem, a person panics and wastes his energy quickly. A trained body is able to carry out any complicated task the brain gives it.
4 4 The very same happens when a person relies too much on their physical abilities, learned moves and behavioral stencils. The body soaks up all the energy, leaving the brain to starve, unable to assess the situation and make decisions accordingly. After a burst of physical action there is a slump, which leaves the person defenseless. At this moment neither a trained and muscled body nor hundreds of memorized moves can help them. The behavioral pattern that makes a person rely on their physical abilities is shown in the picture in (black) color. It is characterized by maximum physical activity, that doesn t allow any energy to be used for keeping up the necessary levels of awareness for assessment and control of the situation or correcting the actions if needed concerning your body and opponent(s). Moreover, it is limited in time. THE HUMAN BRAIN IS THE MOST ENERGY- HUNGRY PART OF OUR BODY. EVEN WHEN OUR ORGANISM IS IN A RELAXED AND CALM STATE, THE BRAIN REQUIRES 20% OF OUR ENERGY. The physical abilities of a human being are not without limit. Such a behavioral pattern is compared by Alexei Alexeevich Kadochnikoff to controlling a car going along a motorway at a lightning speed. Such speed makes it practically impossible to enter a turn. However, no less than 99% of existing systems are based on this pattern of behavior. That is despite the fact that modern scientific research shows to be able to efficiently control the situation, a person shouldn t use more than 20-25% on physical activity. What are the reasons for such numbers? First of all it is the amount of energy that the brain needs for performance. The fact is that the brain happens to be the most energy-hungry part of our body. Even when our organism is in a relaxed and calm state, the brain requires 20% of energy, while for instance the innards need only half of this amount. Scientists prove that to perform efficiently under stress of a life-threatening situation we have to see and assess the circumstances of no less than 270 degrees around us, using the other senses as well (hearing, smell and touch). All of those require energy. Teaching your body to use up no more than 25% of energy for necessary physical activity, we leave enough resources for our brain to assess the situation, pinpoint the problem and set up the task of solving it, while
5 The System of Effective Self-defence: three levels of practice 5 considering several solutions (depending on the time, energy and other resources at hand at the given moment). Only this mode allows us to perform efficiently in a potentially stressful situating, without giving in to fear or panic and solve problems of any level of difficulty. To be able to efficiently control the situation, a person shouldn t use more than 20-25% on physical activity. Level two COMBAT KINEMATICS At this level of practice we help the body to get rid of tension in muscles while moving around, and learn to work in contact with the opponent without any physical or psychological strain. We choose the points of contact wisely and beat the opponent not by raw strength but by controlling his movements. We master the defence from any attacks of the opponent by using not only linear, but also angular velocity, allowing us to break down an attack into constituents and be faster than the opponent at any time. We find out how to create openings in the opponent s defence after each of his moves. At this level of practice you try to use no more than 25% of your effort, you can see and assess the situation and perform effectively for as long as it is required. In this mode you meet the attacks softly, because you use not only linear, but also angular velocity, being always several steps ahead of the opponent. We master the defence from any attack of the opponent by using not only linear, but also angular velocity. Softness, grace and seemingly harmless moves are deceiving for an observer. Spiraling moves performed by rotating your arms along their axis create new trajectories, which an inexperi-
6 6 enced observer will not even be able to notice. However, as you can see in the picture, it is elementary described by the formula of circumference. Circumference = 2πR r In strikes the impetus (the principle of supersonic speed) is applied, which allows us to achieve amazing results with minimum effort. The main task of the first two levels of practice is to raise the quality of carrying out the tasks by your body in any given situation, including extreme circumstances. The easiest way to understand it is to compare our body to some kind of machine. Any working machine is a kinetic kinematical system, characterized by two parameters kinetics and kinematics respectively. At this level of fact you understand completely that the angular velocity is always higher than the linear one. A slight rotary movement performed by the hand or the forearm in less than a second redirects the attack, making it harmless and breaking the defence of your opponent. It allows you to apply some effort, impetus or pressure at the right moment and place to neutralize any opponent(s). Any object is characterized by a number of parameters, such as its mass, length, width, center of masses, geometrical shape and state of matter. In dynamics (movement) it acquires such characteristics as vector (the direction) of movement, speed, acceleration and impetus. Interaction with another object leads to a zone of contact, measured by its area. The less it is, the more the object will be deformed if pressure is applied (other things being equal). In the process of interaction between two objects there are points of support, the centers of mass rotation. To lower the directed pressure the point of force decomposion is created. To increase the directed pressure the point of support is created and a lever or torque is used. KINETICS IS THE SORCE OF ENERGY (KINETIC ENERGY). FOR A CAR OR A PLANE IT IS THE ENGINE. FOR A PERSON IT IS THE MUSCLES. EACH MUSCLE IS A TINY ENGINE. KINEMATICS IS THE TRANSFER OF ENERGY FROM THE SOURCE THROUGH THE ELEMENTS OF THE MECHANISM IN ORDER TO CONVERT IT INTO USEFUL ACTION. THE MORE EFFECTIVE THE KINEMATIC TRANFER THE LESS ENERGY IS NEEDED TO PROVIDE FOR THE SAME MECHANICAL RESULT. Bones, joints and fascial structures provide for kinematic connections and convert the work of the muscles into locomotor functions. The more effective the kinematic connection the less work is required from muscles. It is the kinematic characteristics that define the efficiency of the human bone

Thus the first two levels of practice allow us to perform by refining the kinematic characteristics of the body rather than energy-costly use of muscles with their limited capability. Level three COMBAT FENCING At this level of practice all the acquired skills are applied to working with cold steel and other objects at hand. Special preliminary exercises will help you to get rid of psychological blocks in working with or against cold steel and avoid mistakes typical for 99% of people. Ultimately, we join all the knowledge and skills acquired into combat algorithms for effective self-defence under any conditions and in any situation.
