Develop Areas of expertise through Specialty Seminar (these are intended to allow the participant to study and develop). Requirement is but not limited to one. This should be simple and effective techniques that can be taught and retained in a 40-minute period. Instructor should be able to tailor his seminar to make it age and belt level appropriate. Many of the techniques are available in other martial arts. Whenever possible they should be taught as karate techniques with reference to the and Karate nomenclature such as found in the Funakoshi master text. Some options Self-defense, Knife Defense Sparring Bunkai Breakfalls Throws Joint locks Weapons Note many of these items may be combined Jion Kanku Dai 4rth Degree 4 years minimum extra training Paths Chief Instructor /operate a Karate club/club owner. Not mandatory but significant Familiar with at least 4 of the higher. At this level we should start learning advanced kata. See note 2 Must be seen within the Martial arts community to take on the following Leadership, developing instructors, researching and identifying resources. Developing and reviewing training manuals. Take an ongoing interest in promoting Karate. Bring Club to highest possible level of professionalism. Note one A lot of research and effort has gone into trying to find sources for all of our.to date we have found references to all of our except Choksan. While it is practiced by many clubs it has no roots within the Martial arts community at large making it a Ronan.Given that we are applying to the OKF which has strong roots within the Chito Ryu style as practiced by Chitose and Shotokan as practiced by the JKA it would be prudent to remove the from the Dan grading requirements. They will likely accept that we don t do the
5 Chito Ryu s they know the same, but a KATA they haven t heard of throws up a lot of red flags and doesn t reflect the direction the club is taking accurately We will leave it where it is for now, use it for in house training and make it an optional Dan requirement eventually replacing it with Empi and Tekki Nidan. This would allow us to continue migrating towards Shotokan in a controlled manner. Note two The last 4rth degree kat requirements were for Jion and Kanku dai. These will be moved to 3 rd Dan requirements to more closely follow the current JKA kata requirements.
