1 ANNEX I Sony Creative Science Award 2014 Winners Whizkid Top Award Winners (Primary 1 to 6) The theme for this year s Whizkid was Twist-Turn-Tumble!. Children were tasked to create toys that twist, turn or tumble when played with. Toys could be made of any material as long as they are safe, sturdy and fun. Award Winner Name of Toy Description 1st Prize Sophia Tan Qianyi (P4) CHIJ (Toa Payoh) Space Ball Aim to get as many balls on the planets or sun by turning pegs to the desired position before shooting. 2nd Prize Hou Wei Han (P5) Rulang Primary Light Drummer The adjustable pegs add an element of randomness and surprise to the toy. As the wheel turns, the electrical circuit is completed, causing the bulb to light up. At the same time, the handle connected to the wheel will strike the can. Wei Han demonstrated a very thorough design thinking process in coming up with his toy.

3rd Prize Ashley Tan Yu Xin (P5) Yew Tee Primary The Spinner A copper wire sculpture placed on the battery and magnet configuration will spin.

ScizKid Top Award Winners (Primary 3 to 6) Participants created safe and sturdy toys from suitable materials, based on at least one scientific principle.

2 3rd Prize Ashley Tan Yu Xin (P5) Yew Tee Primary The Spinner A copper wire sculpture placed on the battery and magnet configuration will spin. The sculpture can be decorated with bells and LED lights. Ashley shows how a classic science demonstration can be turned into a fun toy to play with. 3 3rd Prize Goh Yan Hin, Swen (P5) Rosyth Cosmic Attack which involves a combination of stored energy and friction. Reflect the laser to destroy the alien ship by turning the mirrors and prism.
