2 LM 2 Mountain iking Mountain biking is a popular sport. While road bikers like to ride along paved highways, mountain bikers head for hills and forests. There are two types of mountain biking. Downhill bikers like to ride down steep slopes at top speeds. Other mountain bikers, however, prefer cross-country biking. They also ride fast, but their trails include uphill slopes and other obstacles. oth types of bikers enjoy the excitement of riding on dirt trails. omparisons: They also ride fast. oth enjoy dirt trails. How is a mountain bike different from a regular road bike? One difference is the bike s frame. mountain bike is heavier, so it can handle steep, difficult trails. Mountain bikes also have thicker tires than road bikes. The thicker tires make the bike less likely to tip over if a rider hits a rock or bumpy patch on the trail. ontrasts: While road bikers like paved highways, mountain bikers like hills and forests. Downhill bikers ride downhill; however, cross-country bikers ride uphill slopes. mountain bike is heavier than a road bike. mountain bike has thicker tires enchmark education company, LLc cap074 Grade 3 ompare & ontrast Nonfiction Poster 2 e n c h m a r k e d u c a t i o n c o m p a n y
3 LM 3 Native mericans of the Eastern Woodlands The Native mericans of the Eastern Woodlands lived in different kinds of environments. Some tribes lived in the mountains, while others lived by rivers. Still other tribes lived in the forest. ll tribes adapted, or changed, their lifestyle to suit the place where they lived. Some regions had the same types of climate. The Iroquois lived near the Great Lakes, where it was very cold in winter and hot in summer. The Shawnee lived in the Ohio River Valley. There it was also cold in winter and hot in summer. People believe the herokee lived around the Great Lakes, too. However, they were forced to move south in the 1500s after losing their land in battle. The climate in the south was warmer. omparisons: ontrasts: 2010 enchmark education company, LLc cap0 7 5 Grade 3 ompare & ontrast Nonfiction Poster 3 e n c h m a r k e d u c a t i o n c o m p a n y
4 LM 4 omets Our solar system has a sun, planets, and moons. Did you know we have comets, too? comet has a long tail of gas that carries pieces of rock and dust. ecause comets look so different from other objects in the sky, ancient people thought comets were evil signs. If a comet appeared, people feared that a war would start or a ruler would die. omets have some things in common with planets and moons as well. omets orbit the sun like planets. That means we can identify some comets and predict when they will appear. Like the planets and moons, a comet has no light of its own. The light we see is sunlight reflecting off the rock and dust enchmark education company, LLc cap075 Grade 3 ompare & ontrast Nonfiction Poster 4 e n c h m a r k e d u c a t i o n c o m p a n y
