The forecast is for snow with freezing rain (ICE) in North Carolina tonight and tomorrow. When I was younger I was always excited about snow but not so much about the freezing rain and ice. Now that I m older I just wish it would all go away. As a matter of fact I could do without winter all together except for Christmas, my wife s birthday in January, and my Grandson Luke s birthday in February. I know, I m just sitting here trying to make things better when God has made ALL things perfect. Please forgive me and I will move on. Thinking back to Valentine Day reminds me of my first new car. My first car was a 1958 Plymouth Belvedere 2 Dr HT and what a beautiful car she was. It was red with a white/gray interior, 318 ci, and 3 speed automatic (yes! I had a Christine car before the book or the movie). I had driven this car for about 5 years, and loved every minute of it. I was now out of school, and had a good paying job when the 1967 Plymouths came out. The draft board now had me classified 1Y because of a kidney stone (yes I even had them back then) so I started looking to upgrade my ride as fins were out and horsepower was in. All the ads in the magazines and on television were telling me that Plymouth Is Out To Win You Over well that had already happen with the dated but still nice red 58. The 67 Plymouth GTX had just been released and it was just what I wanted and needed to satisfy my young blood and testosterone. It had to be red, lots and lots of horsepower, 4 speed transmission, a tachometer, and a radio (AM was fine because FM wasn t great back then). The 1967 Plymouth Belvedere ads were showing me just what I wanted so I started my hunt for that perfect car. I started at a larger Chrysler/Plymouth dealership in Charlotte known as Terry Chrysler/Plymouth. Now they had a long line of newly released GTX s in every color of the rainbow.

2 On January 30 th we held our first meeting of the year at the AutoBarn in Concord. The AutoBarn is always a good place to hold a winter meeting as it s inside and they always have some nice cars to view and enjoy. They did have some nice cars but just a few MOPARs and no Plymouths. Below are a few pictures taken during our visit Dodge Challenger After walking past 3 or 4 cars, there it was. It was red; it was a 4 speed; it had a 440 ci (375 HP); with a black interior, Tech, and AM radio. It was a cloudy day but I do believe the clouds did part and I would swear I did hear a singing choir. Yes, this was the one. 3 Our next meeting will be at StreetSide Classics in Charlotte, NC. StreetSide is another great location for a winter meet. Please see January minutes for a complete list. After the meeting we all went to Punchy s Diner just around the corner for great food and additional fellowship. Thanks Mike for your articles on the early days of the RAMCHARGERs. Only a few more of Mike s MOPAR racing stories left so enjoy them while you can. Dean welcomed all of the members and introduced Chris from the AutoBarn, who gave his own welcome and description of his recent job change to the AutoBarn. Chris also talked about the AutoBarn, what they do and how they can be of service to the club. He also took orders for t-shirts he was giving away. Greg read the club's meeting minutes from our Appreciation Dinner in December, Joe Brown was not in attendance and so there was no Treasurer's report. Dean seemed to think it hadn't change much since the December meeting report. Dean asked club members who might be sick or injured. Rockey's wife is recovering and has been hobbling around their home. Sherry reported that she has several family members sick with cancer and other major health issues. Dean said he is still dealing with gall stones which have bothered him. Dean announced that today is Tanya's birthday. Dean talked about old club business items including that he brought more business cards with the date of our next club car show on them. He has also been in contact with the Transportation Museum staff about the date and time for our next MOPAR car show in June. Lastly, he indicated that we still have some club shirts for sale. Dean had not heard from anyone regarding where we should have our remaining club meetings and activities for the year. He also had not heard from anyone stating a preference as to which non-profit organizations for the club to make their annual contributions to.

5 Dean opened up the floor to suggestions for meetings and activities. Sherry suggested a trip to the NC Zoo in Asheboro, Greg suggested taking in a baseball game in Kannapolis or taking a train trip to Raleigh for the day. Dean went over the calendar and these were the things decided on: February 27th - Streetside Classics in Charlotte. March 19th - ScatPak club show at R&K Motors April Auto Fair May 14th - Fun Run in Farmington June 4th - Our club show at the Transportation Museum July 27th - Farmer's day August - Open date, Kannapolis cruise in??? September 24-25th - Auto Fair October 29th - Fall Tour (zoo?) December - Appreciation Dinner Dean then discussed possible non-profit organizations for donations. After much discussion, the club voted on making a $500 contribution each to the Salvation Army, Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Children's Hospital, and to Hospice. Dean discussed some other new business regarding our Facebook page and the need for updating it. He also mentioned that for the MOPAR show in June that the last sponsor had not paid the club. We decided not to do goody bags this year for all of the participants. The meeting was adjourned and all went to Punchy's for dinner. Respectfully Submitted Greg Errett, Secretary This is a new Motorbooks book covering 50 years of Chrysler B-Body s (Plymouths and Dodges). It starts out with Chapter 1 and the 1963 American s Two Biggest Races (as we all know Chrysler B-Body s start with model year 1962). Chapter 2 and 3 talk about the Elephant HEMI engines. Chapter 4 covers the 1966 and 1967 Dodge Chargers, and Chapter 5 covers Supercars Reaching Their Peak. Moving on to Chapter 6 and the coverage of MOPAR cars and Chapter 7 looks for things to talk about the Chrysler B-Body s. Part 2 of this book and Chapter 8 goes into the newer Chrysler cars (Twenty-first Century and Beyond). This book has many very good pictures with many of them devoted to MOPAR racing in the 60 s and 70 s. It talks a little about the gas turbine powerplants and other pre-hemi engines. The majority of this book covers the mid 60 s to early 70 s B-Body s and at the end it devotes a few pages to the newer MOPARs. This is another good MOPAR coffee table book and worth adding to your MOPAR library. The author is a lifelong auto enthusiast and accomplished road racer.
