1 Summer 2015 Welcome everyone again to the KSBO newsletter. I hope you have had a great summer and enjoyed the great weather. With that said, the weather over the past few days definitely indicates that fall is right around the corner. That means football (Go Seahawks!), kids are heading back to school, and of course a new bowling season is upon us. After taking the summer off of bowling, I have been down on the lanes this past week trying to knock the rust off. Thankfully, the KSBO Board of Directors never takes the summer off and with the help of our outstanding sponsors has once again lined up great tournament schedule. Speaking of sponsors, I would like to ask that you please take a moment to review the list of sponsors we have this season and encourage you to make an effort to support them whenever you get the chance. Similar to last season, our goal with this summer newsletter is to put the wrap on last season and get you ready for the season ahead. To that extent, included is a full write-up of last year s grand finals and end of season statistics along with a season preview that looks at the tournament schedule and highlights any rule changes. In our blast from the past, we reached deep into the KSBO archives all the way back to It was the year that brought us MTV, the DeLorean, and the first Space Shuttle mission. The mustaches were legit, the hairdos wild, and the competition on the lanes fierce. Finally, we hope you are as excited as we are about this 43 rd season. If you haven t already, be sure to like us on Facebook for news, photos, tournaments results, and more throughout the season. Enjoy the newsletter!! -Jeremy IN THIS ISSUE Season Preview The wait is almost over. The 43 rd season of the KSBO kicks off September 19 th at Hi Joy Bowl.. Check out our complete guide to the season including the schedule, sponsors, rule changes, and much more. Page 2 President s Message Welcome KSBO members to our 43 rd season of the KSBO! We re excited to kick off the season on September 19 th at Hi Joy. While there are not any ground-breaking changes this year, we would like to highlight a couple of things. Our Quad Swiss this year is a one day tournament and falls on the Sunday after Halloween. Our open singles tournament is Oct. 17th, meaning it is open to any USBC member, and for our Quad Swiss, we are allowing one member of your team to be open to any USBC member also. Entry forms will be out shortly, but please do not hesitate to ask a KSBO board member if you have any questions. With that said, the board has been busy this summer updating our rules and working on how we can improve our organization going forward. As President, I am very pleased with the progress we have made to secure the long-term future of the KSBO. As always we welcome input from our membership on how we can continue to improve the organization. On a personal note, I will miss most of the first half of the season because of work obligations, but I am already looking forward to returning and bowling with all of you on Feb. 6 at the Champs/Non-Champs tournament. In the meantime, good luck and good bowling!! -Jamie Recap of the Grand Finals Forty Six bowlers showed up to Laurel Lanes on April 25 th to compete for over $7600 in prize money. See who came out on top. Page Statistics See the KSBO leaders for earnings, average, points, and also what you need to average at each tournament to take home a check. It might be less than you think. Page 6

This is no small task to coordinate with the bowling centers, line up sponsors, and attempt to avoid conflicts with other tournaments. Well I am happy to report that the board has once again delivered and coordinated a 12 tournament line-up concluding with the annual Grand Finals held this year at All Star Lanes and sponsored by Grey Chevrolet and 19 th Hole Bar & Grill. Similar to last year, the season is broken into 2 halves with a 2 month break over the holidays and county tournament. As Jamie mentioned in his President s message, there aren t any big rule changes for this season but there were still a few revisions that you should be aware of relative to membership eligibility, Membership A modification was made to Rule III.B regarding actively participating in a league. The rules had previously stated that Having an established book average from the previous season was counted as an option to meet the actively participating requirement. This led to some bowlers only bowling one season in Kitsap, Clallam, Jefferson, and/or Mason County and receiving two years of KSBO eligibility. To correct this, Rule III.B.I was deleted and now actively participating can only be obtained through being a current active member of a certified league in one of the four aforementioned counties, a current active sub with 21 or more games, or reside in one of the four counties. Quad Swiss Over the past several years, the QUAD Swiss tournament has been 2- days with 6 games each day. Although entries have held relatively steady, the board received feedback that members wanted to see the tournament compressed down to one day. As such, the Quad Swiss will be one day this season with 8 games. Our annual trios tournament will continue to be a 2-day event. Due to junior leagues and rock & bowl, this event will be held on Sunday, November 1 st so get that trick or treating done early. The reduction from 12 to 8 games will decrease the amount of lineage paid and result in increased payouts while also reducing the commitment to one day. In addition, this season we are allowing each team to have one bowler who can be from anywhere provided they are a USBC member in good standing and your team still fits within the published average cap. 300 Progressive Pot Last season for the first time in 30 years, there were no 300 games bowled during the KSBO season. As such, the progressive pot was paid out at the KSBO Finals for a 299 game that wash shot back at the first tournament of the season. Starting this year, if there are no 300 games rolled during the season then the pot will carry over to the following season. There was also a change to how much guests can win from the progressive pot. The rules were changed such that guests are only able to win half of the progressive pot with the thought being that our members are the ones that contribute most of the money to this pot throughout the season and it seemed a little unfair for a guest to come in (who might only bowl one tournament) and win the entire pot that might have been building all season. Finally the board has purchased a couple new laptops and is working on procuring software to make our tournaments more automated, particularly the Swiss events. The goal is to move away from the manual boards and transition to standing sheets after each game. Not sure if we will get there this season but the effort is underway. This has been brought up by several of our members the past couple years and want you to know the KSBO is listening. See you at Hi Joy Bowl on September 19 th.

4 2015 KSBO Grand Finals by Alison Eoff The JAMES & ASSOCIATES OPEN and PENINSULA BOTTLING 205 and under grand finals was held at Laurel Lanes on April 25th. Forty-six of the fifty-two total bowlers that were eligible showed up to bowl for over $7600 in prize money. After six games of qualifying Mike VanWinkle was the leader in the open division by shooting games of for Low to qualify and cash was Tim Clemens moved into the lead after the four games of semi-finals by shooting , winning three of them. This added to his 1209 qualifying score gave him a total of Behind him was Lonnie Sharkey 2269 (90), Mike VanWinkle 2217 (60), Jeremy Ellis 2178 (90), and in fifth, Tom Jamrog 2110 (90). tournament. So that became the high game for everyone to shoot for. That should have been no problem since for the last ten years we have been averaging six 300 s a year. Well, this year became the first year since 1985 that we did not have at least one 300 bowled. So each tournament the pot grew and despite a couple of scares at the finals Nick took home a check for $382 at the end of the day. The KSBO would like to thank Terry James from James & Associates and Jeff Hinds from Peninsula Bottling for sponsoring this tournament. It is greatly appreciated and we look forward to having them back again next season.
