Main Street Dayton, Ohio Meeting Starts at 7:30 PM 2016 Christmas Party December 6 th, 2015 This is a Family Affair so please bring the Spouse and kids We have rented the Dayton Police F.O.P. Hall located at 4275 Powell Rd Dayton, OH Doors will be open at 3:00 PM and Dinner will be served at 4:00 PM, with a showing of the 2015 Year in review at 5:00 PM. We will have lots of door prizes that will be handed out during the evening Please let me know in your RSVP if your kids will be attending, I want to make sure I have age and gender type door prizes for all of them. If you would like to donate a door prize let me know. Wingmasters will provide the entree and everyone will be asked to bring a side dish. 2 Wingmasters Meeting Minutes 10/1/15 Wingmasters Flying Field Field Report : Field is looking good. Still getting estimates to have the driveway graveled. D.R. Fore man submitted a bid of $1, One of the Run-Up Stands needs replaced. Gary Moorman offered to build two stands in time for next spring flying. City has delayed work on the Field Use Agreement. They have other projects in the works and our current agreement does not expire till Old Business : The D.O.G.S. put on a great show at WPAFB on September 4, 5 & 6. It was not New Business : necessary to close the field on September 26 th. The bike club who had the field re served did not have the crowd they expected and they used the area around the pond. Joe Saylor has extended his invitation to hold a build class. See Joe for details. Santiago Panzardi may hold a HELI Event on October 16, 17, & 18 th or October 23, 24, & 25 th. Monthly meetings will be at the Fairgrounds starting October. The first round of nominations for offices for the 2016 year were taken. The nominees President: Jerry Humston Vice President: Kyle Willett, Gary Moorman Treasurer: Romey Schwieterman Secretary: Gary Moorman Newsletter Editor: Jerry Humston Safety Director: Pete Hanley A second round of nominations will take place at our November 5 th meeting. After the nominations a vote will be taken for the final election. Candidates may run for only one office per election. Therefore, we need additional nominees. This year s Christmas party will be at the F.O.P. Lodge on December 6 th. Please bring a dish to share. The club will furnish the chicken. RSVP Jerry Humston. Anyone interested in flying indoors during the winter months should contact Kyle Willetts. Kyle will be checking out possible sites and their costs. 3 From the Presidents Hanger 2016 Officers are to be elected this coming meeting, and there will be a new crop of faces leading the club with fresh ideas and vision. Please help the new leaders with your patience and understanding. It takes a few months to get into the swing of things with any new position. If you have ideas as to what you would like to see with the club, jot it down, drop an to one of the new officers and I'm sure they will review it and take your suggestions to heart. We do have one of the premiere AMA club facilities in the region if not the country, and let's keep the ideas coming to keep it that way. The electric project met resistance at first, but look now how awesome it is to have it!!! So let's not discount any idea as a bad one until we've weighed and considered the members needs and the trends of the hobby! As the flying season winds down, it's time to thank everyone in the club for all that they do. Mowing, cleaning, instructors, members that promote the club and the hobby, thank you all and have a great, and safe holiday season! Hope to see you at the field!! So if you are interested in holding a officer position in the Wingmasters organization or wish to nominate or vote for an Officer then the November meeting is one you do not want to miss. 4 Notes from the Safety Director As the outside weather deteriorates to too cold for these hands to enjoy flying thoughts should move on to repairing, building and indoor flying. Consideration should also be given to pickling engines, storing batteries and preparing the models for a winter break. Keep in mind the possibility that there are good flying days left and models should be kept in good enough condition to fly at a moments notice. Indoor flying models tend to be smaller and lighter than the outdoor types and some consider them less of a safety concern. This may be somewhat valid but good preparation and inspection prior to flying any type of model goes a long way and is just a good habit to follow. Now on to my adventures in different types of models (electric motor powered). Last month after a couple of successful flights with my electric motor glider, I tried another flight. Note: my nitro/gas planes tend to be overpowered and wind direction usually is not a concern. I tried to hand launch the glider downwind and while trying the reposition the transmitter it flew to the ground. Another note: In the nitro/gas world when you hit the ground, the engine and the exhaust noise usually stops. Now (still silent) the 9 foot wing span glider leapt into the air, did a tight immemann (1/2 loop) and started to head right at me. Either by great skill or dumb luck I dumped the glider into the ground no one was hurt (except ego/pride). The glider is repaired and I ve built a takeoff dolly so hand launching is not required. Lessons learned: Know and understand thoroughly the type of model you are flying, In trouble when on the ground always go to idle on the throttle, and, if able, always takeoff into the wind. Enjoy the month and my we have some good flying days in November.
