1 Tulsa County Pinewood Derby Race Rules 2016 Race Date: Last Week in July 2016 Weigh-In: Start Time for Heat #1: Location: 1 Hour Before Race Start TBD Local Car Dealership Outlaw Division ($250) Eligibility: Pine Wood Derby is open to all Tulsa County Businesses who make a new financial contribution to the Indian Nations Council, (minimum $250.00). What would you pay to be a kid again? Registration: Cars must be registered by TBD. Once the car is registered, it will be impounded until the start of the race. Races will start after the stock car races are completed. General Construction: Only Official BSA Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit (#17006) may be used for the wood block. These cars will be provided to the crew upon receipt of a financial contribution (minimum payment of $300 payable by July 15 th, 2016). General Rules (Race Day): The first place car of each heat will move to the next bracket until a final winner is determined. Recognition: Trophies for 1 st, 2 nd 3 rd Place in each division

2 Stock Car ($150) Eligibility: Pine Wood Derby is open to all Tulsa County Businesses and individuals who make a new financial contribution to the Indian Nations Council, (minimum $150.00). What would you pay to be a kid again? Registration/Weigh-In: Cars must be weighed in and registered (Saturday, June 25 th, 2016 starting at 9 am). Races will begin at TBD. All cars must pass official inspections before they can be registered to race. Once the car is registered, it will be impounded until the start of the race. Under NO circumstances may a car leave the registration area after registration has been completed. If so, it will be disqualified. If a car fails inspection, the infraction(s) will be pointed out to the Crew Chief and he/she has until closing time to make changes and be reinspected. All cars will be weighed on the same set of OFFICAL SCALES. Official scale weights are final. General Construction: Crews may not race a car that has previously run in any derby races and must be a new car for Only Official BSA Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit (#17006) and/or Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Axels & Wheels kit (#17007) may be used. These cars will be provided to the crew upon receipt of a financial contribution (minimum payment of $150 payable by July 15 th, 2016). Cars must be built by the crew. Hobby Shop, Pinecar or any other non-bsa kits, pre-cut bodies, wheels, hub caps, axles, axle tubes, axle covers, bearings, washers, bushings, starting mechanisms, sliding or moving weights, lead shot, loose weights, liquids, and springs are strictly prohibited. All weights must be securely attached to or embedded in car. YOU MAY ONLY USE OFFICIAL BSA WHEELS, AXELS, and WOOD BLOCKS! With the exception of decorative and construction items (weights, glue, lube, decals, spoilers, etc) only materials from the official kit are allowed. Decorative Items: Peripheral / decorative items such as steering wheel, driver, spoilers, decals, skins, etc., are permissible as long as they do not exceed the specifications below. Fenders are allowed, although not recommended. It is

3 suggested to keep decorations to a minimum. All parts of car must be securely and firmly attached. Specifications: Maximum length 7.0 Maximum width 2-3/4 Maximum weight 5.0 oz. Under car clearance 3/8 minimum Minimum width between wheels 1-3/4 Shape of car Car may be of any style provided that it meets all specifications, makes good contact with the starting pin and does not extend past the starting pin. Extreme caution and care must be taken for wish-bone, Y, or U shaped cars. No part of car including wheels and attachments may extend past starting gate pin. Wheels cannot extend past car body. Frontend of car the most forward part of the car must be at least 5/8 inches wide. Wheels: ONLY OFFICAL BSA WHEELS ARE ALLOWED! No exceptions. Only light sanding/polishing to wheels is allowed to remove minor imperfections or bumps. (Be careful not to overheat wheel, plastic will get tacky very easily.) Wheel diameter or width cannot be reduced. Tread cannot be rounded, pointed, tapered, angled, concaved, grooved, or modified in any way that changes the original shape, tire diameter, or tread width. Wheel tread must remain flat. BSA and Pinewood Derby lettering on side wall must be completely intact. No wheel covers or hub caps allowed.

4 Axels: ONLY OFFICAL BSA AXELS ARE ALLOWED! No exceptions. Axels may be sanded / polished to remove burrs and stamp marks. Do not over modify axels to the point that that may become weakened. The axel head must remain intact. No axel covers are allowed. Lubricant: No wet lubricants such as oils, silicones or waxes will be allowed (these could compromise the integrity of the plastic wheels or the race track). DRY POWDER LUBE ONLY! (Graphite, Dry white, etc) General Rules (Race Day) Drivers will be allowed to lube cars only once before the derby starts. After the derby starts, cars may not be lubed again. If a car looses a wheel/axel during a race and the driver can make repairs in the allotted time he may only lube the wheel that was replaced/reattached. A maximum of two wheels may be replaced during the derby. Crew Chiefs must be ready and at the starting gate when their race is called. Any disputes will be settled by Race Committee. All decisions by Race Committee are FINAL. Only Crew Chiefs may voice disputes to the Race Committee. If repairs are necessary, Crew Chief will evaluate damage and crews will have a set amount of time to complete their repairs. Generally, this will be until the crew s next heat race. Crew Chiefs must be at the starting gate when their heat is called. Under extenuating circumstances, the Crew Chief may be granted additional time if deemed necessary; no more than 5 minutes. All repairs must be performed by the crew and will be supervised by the Crew Chief. During a race if a car causes another car to leave the track, interferes with another car or causes mechanical damage to another car, then the affected car(s) will be given a reasonable amount of time to make repairs (max 10 min). The track will be inspected for debris or damage that may have caused the incident.

5 The times/places for that race will be null, and the race will be re-run and new results entered. If the same car causes a similar incident a second time, the offending car will be given last place for that particular race, and the race will be re-run without the offending car. If there is a third offense involving the same car it will be disqualified from all remaining heats. If a car jumps the track or suffers significant damage without interfering with the other cars and without obvious cause (track malfunction or debris on track) then that car will be given last place for that particular race. If debris or a problem with the track is found, the problem will be corrected, the race will be re-run, and new scores will be entered. The driver will be given a set amount of time to make repairs and may continue racing in later heats if timely repairs are made.
