Our August trip challenged the leaders as the venue was changed to Camp Durant in Carthage, NC and then the bus did not start. Car pools were formed and our Occoneechee Scout Sign September 2015 Vol 11 #09 Page 4

15 Save the Date for the 8 th Annual LDS Merit Badge Clinic Friday, November 13 th & Saturday, November 14 th This Merit Badge Clinic is held in the greater Raleigh area each year on the second weekend of November. A staff of about 225 share their knowledge and expertise to help Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts to investigate and master the knowledge and skills taught through the BSA merit badge program. Our commitment is to offer at least 50 different merit badges each year. (We ve averaged 66 for the past two years.) Our event is held in nine different locations, so even though we ve had about 850 Scouts for each of the past two years, no venue ever feels that crowded. We have sessions in Raleigh, Wake Forest, Knightdale, Zebulon, Cary, Morrisville, Apex, Fuquay-Varina, and Garner. We offer three 3-hour long merit badge sessions Friday night, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon. Our counselors are registered and trained and excited to share their time and talents with the Scouts. This is a free event. We offer it at no cost to the Scouts or their leaders. Selected merit badges may have a small materials fee. In lieu of payment for attending this event, we just ask Scouts to bring a few cans or boxes of non-perishable food to be donated to local food banks. We collected and donated 3,271 pounds last year. While the Apex and Raleigh Stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sponsor this Merit Badge Clinic, it is open to all Scouts. Many of our counselors and most of our participants are not members of the LDS Church. In the past few years we ve had Scouts and their leaders come from ten states along the Eastern seaboard from Florida to New York and Washington D.C. Please save the date and come join us this November for a great weekend of fun, fellowship, and merit badges! Learn more about our clinic at Just look for our event under Nov. 13 th.
