2 The AWN Balmoral Sports Shear Shearing and Woolhandling competition was conducted on Saturday March 15 th The learners were set to begin at 10am, but with a power pole going down, it was nearly 30 minutes before generators were set up and we began! Jake Brazendale of Horsham came first. Sam Lakin from Horsham was second. Sherri Symons of Ellerslie came third. Matt Edwards of Edenhope was fourth.

3 The Intermediate heats were next. Brett Caldwell from Heywood took out first prize. Leigh Harris of Hamilton came in second. Adam Webb of Bendigo took out third And Richie Foster of Apsley came in fourth

4 The Open heats saw Glen Stephens, Sam Mackrill, Evo Hennessy and Beni Maguire all head into the finals respectively. Evo Hennessy from Natimuk went from being third to qualify to taking out first prize of $1500 cash thanks to AWI. Sam Mackrill of Rochester came in second while last years winner Beni Maguire from Hamilton was third. Glen Stephens of Heywood was fourth.

5 Once again this year we ran the Blade Shearing with the Woolhandling competition. Last years winner Sarah Moran from Ararat took out first prize again this year in the Woolhandling. Sarah will be representing Australia in Ireland in May. Sophie Cameron of Hawkesdale was third. Tara Smith of Naracoorte was second Ali Torney of McArthur fourth.

6 Another Australian representative in Ireland in May, Ken French from Glenisla proved too good in the Blade shearing competition. Richie Foster from Apsley was second. Terry Rowbottom of Broad Water third and Robert Harding of Nhill was fourth.

As per last year we ran the Blade shearing and Woolhander Competition together. This involves having a Blade Shearing competitor on one stand and on the other stand we had a machine shearer shearing for the Woolhandling competition. This proved to be very positive with both the crowd and the participants.
