Twenty Four Years Keep Connected Our meetings are held the 3 rd Thursday of each month at O Charleys on Hixson Pike. Dinner at 6 pm and the meeting starts at 7 pm. Visitors are always welcome. Come and see what we are all about. With 130 members we are one of the largest Corvette Clubs in southeast Tennessee. What do our members enjoy? Organized road trips to the Corvette Museum, Maggie Valley, Gatlinburg, State Parks, etc. Cruises on scenic roads, including the annual spring and fall weekend trips. Participation in local events like cruise-ins, cook-outs, the annual club picnic, local parades, homecomings and other community activities. Friday night lights, an informal gathering on Friday evenings, at a different restaurant each week to kick off the weekend. The club has fund raisers throughout the year and donates the money to local charities. Giving back to the community is a high priority with the club. BUT MOST OF ALL FUN!!!

Save the Wave Ron Kellogg, President River City Corvette Club, Inc. From The President s Desk Planning continues for our 5 th Annual Classic Car Show which will be held August 1 st at the Camp Jordan Arena in East Ridge TN. We need your help so please volunteer to make this our best show to date. Remember all of the funds raised at our car shows go to local charities. This year the charities will be the East Ridge Needy Child Fund, Hospice of Chattanooga and the Mary Ellen Locher Foundation. Ron Kellogg Car show and cruise-in season is here! We re looking into resurrecting our own cruise-in s. In the past we held Friday, Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon cruise-ins in the Walmart parking lot across from Buffalo Wild Wings and Glen Gene Deli. We park our cars, get the chairs out and see who can tell the biggest story. I can tell you now that the one that tells the first story is going to be outdone. We have lots of lookers and have picked up new members in the past. The Chevy Club has expressed interest in having some joint cruise-ins. We already have lots of interest in the East TN Corvette Club Show at Reeder Chevrolet May 3 rd, Vettes of the Smokies Show in Bristol June 20 th, Middle TN Corvette Club s Show in Lynchburg and Corvette Summer in Somerset July 25th. We do need members willing to head up and coordinate some of these trips. We have also been invited to participate in the Downtown Chattanooga Armed forces Day Parade May1st and have several members already signed up. Don t forget the Integrity Chevrolet 3 rd Annual Spring Car Show April 18 th. We need volunteers to help Marsha Doebler with registration and Jerry Davis with judging.

Unbelievable Corvette Story Finding low-mileage classic cars tucked away in garages isn't exactly big news these days, but this one is a little different In April 2014, the Houston Mecum Auction featured the most unmolested Corvette Stingray in all of consumer Corvette history and maybe the most valuable. It sold for $725,000. Here's the car's crazy story: When a 30 yr old Colorado Springs man, Don McNamara, celebrated his discharge from the Marines with a trip to Vegas in the fall of 1966, he got a little lucky- winning $5,000. Obviously, he put it all towards the purchase of a 1967 big-block Corvette Stingray.

Adjusted for inflation, that sticker price works out to $32, today. The car came just as he wanted White paint, red stinger stripe, 4-speed, bolt-on aluminum wheels, side-pipes, and more. As Stingrays go, it was pretty much stacked. When it was delivered on May 20 by Ray Motor Co. in Lamar, CO, Don hit the town in his new baby But then after just a couple months the car disappeared. Don repeatedly told others he no longer owned the car, but people were right not to be convinced. When Don passed away in 2011 his neighbors, to whom he had willed his ENTIRE estate, found quite a surprise in the garage: the white '67 Corvette Stingray Don purchased new in It had less than 3,000 miles.

Apparently Don did drive the car during the 70s and 80s, but only under the cover of darkness. When the odometer approached 3,000 he parked it for good, creating a strange shrine to America in and around it with his belongings. Here are some of the most insane details about this car from Mecum: Unrestored with 2,996 original miles One owner until July 2011 Documented with practically every original document including the window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, purchase receipt, title, registration, photos and owner's manual The original owner, Don McNamara is the only person to have driven the car 3 people are known to have sat in the car No one has sat in the passenger seat Last driven regularly in October 1967 and not driven since the mid 1980s Mr. McNamara's belongings remain in the car

Here s the cool part. This car was actually at Greg Wyatt s Vintage Corvette s when RCCC visited. He had a rope around the car and this was one of the only cars he didn t let the club members sit in.

These charities along with the East Ridge Needy Child Fund will be the focus of the fundraising efforts for River City Corvette Club in 2015.

Las Vegas Trip Travel agent Teena Broom returned to provide a bit more information about the Las Vegas trip. Based on input submitted to Shelley Williams, the first week of November (November 5-8) is the chosen weekend for the trip. Shelley reported at this time she has commitments from eight couples and a minimum of 10 commitments are needed in order to qualify for current pricing. There are a few other members who have expressed interest to Shelley though they are not firm commitments at this time. Therefore the pricing Teena will discuss it this evening s meeting is for individual pricing and not a group rate. At this time Teena reports the price airfare and restore will be between $1900-$2100/couple. Travel insurance would be an optional, additional charge. The best pricing for resorts at this time include The Flamingo, Monte Carlo and Treasure Island. Teena reports leaving from Atlanta will be the most cost-effective versus leaving from Chattanooga though at this time flights are running high. There will be an additional charge resort fees that will be approximately $25 per day that will be paid by members at the time they check-in the resort. Teena distributed commitment forms to those interested in attending to return to Shelley so she can pass along to Teena. Members can also pass along directly to Teena if they prefer. There will be a $200 deposit per person that will be due within 3-5 days for individual pricing if we do not get the minimum to qualify as a group rate. If we get enough to do the group contract then we will have 3-4 weeks to pay the deposit. Regardless of whether we go individual or group around final payment will be due within 60 days prior to travel. Payments can be made on a monthly basis for a lump sum at any time prior to the deadline. Club members agreed to extend commitments until the end of February to try to get to the group rate. Club members may want to include inviting family members along to get to the group rate. Family members can be included on this trip. If club members have additional questions they can Shelley and she will forward on to Teena.

Integrity Car Shows Since the last meeting it has come to board members attention there are some conflicts with the tentative dates for the spring and fall Integrity Chevrolet shows. Tentative date for the spring show was April 11 however that would inflict with the Coker Show. The new date for the spring Integrity Chevrolet show is April 18 from 9:00-1:00. Jerry Davis will coordinate judging, Marsha Doebler will coordinate registration, Gary Martin will coordinate the 50/50 and Anna Lane will handle microphone duties. The tentative date for the fall show was October 3 however this date would conflict with Vette Fest which several members plan to attend. After much discussion it was decided to schedule the fall show on October 31 and take advantage of the Halloween theme by having trunk or treat for kids, a Halloween costume contest and have our DJs play some spooky music. RCCC Classic Car Show at Camp Jordan Robin stated she plans to schedule a car club committee meeting at Camp Jordan when the weather improves. Anyone else interested in attending is welcome to do so. Now 2015 charities have been voted on Alice will finalize the flyer. Robin stated anyone has anything to donate for the donation baskets can get items to her she can store them in her shop. Shelley Williams and Sheila Martin are coordinators for the donation baskets and they will accept items as well. Robin stated the donation baskets were very successful last year. Robin stated RCCC can provide documentation for tax purposes to any businesses that donate items for the baskets.

Robin stated she does not have any new information to report about O Reillys interest in sponsoring the trophies for the show. Robin stated RCCC is known for awarding nice trophies and her preference would be for O Reillys to reimburse the charge of the trophies we select rather than the plaques O Reillys is known for supplying to other car shows, RCCC Bylaws President Ron Kellogg reported The River City Corvette Club Bylaws state the bylaws need to be reviewed every 2 to 3 years and this is an opportune time to do this review since the Code of Conduct needs to be referred to in the Bylaws. Bob Seiter agreed to chair the Bylaws Review Committee and Anna Lane and Tim Nutz have agreed to serve. Bob asked if anyone else was interested in serving. Mike Nabors agreed to serve as well. Bob reported this group will meet and report their recommendations at an upcoming meeting. Upcoming Events of Interest President Ron Kellogg stated board members discussed carnations and take reasons that may be of interest to club members. Coordinators for these events will need to be identified and Ron asked club members to think about these events and contact him if they are interested in serving as coordinator. Vicepresident Bob Seiter stated it is important to reciprocate attendance at neighboring car shows for clubs who attended our shows.
