5 Basketball 3x3 Baloncesto 3x3/ Basketball 3x3 Youth Olympic Competition Format The Summer Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 programme features four events, with two team competition events: Men and Women, and two individual events: Men's Dunk Contest and Women's Shoot-out Contest. Team competition events Competition Format and Rules Formato y reglas de la competencia / Format et règles de compétition As of SAT 17 SEP 2018 Both events have the same format and rules. Twenty teams are divided into four pools of five teams. Each team plays every other team in the same pool. The top two ranked teams in each pool proceed to the quarterfinals and the losers are eliminated. The winners of the quarterfinal games proceed to the semifinals and the losers are eliminated. The winners of the semifinal games play in the gold medal game and the losers play in the bronze medal game. The rules of Basketball 3x3 are as follows: A team consists of four players, three players on the court, and one substitute. The game is played on a half court, on one basket, in one period of 10 minutes playing time. Most of the FIBA Basketball rules are valid. The first team to score 21 points (or more), or the team that is leading the game after the regular playing time, is the winner. The scoring rules allow one or two points for a successful shot. One point is awarded for shots from the free throw line and for shots from all positions inside the arc (within the 6.75 metres line). Shots behind the arc (beyond the 6.75 metres line) are awarded two points. The team must attempt a shot for a field goal within 12 seconds. Substitution is permitted when the ball becomes dead and the game clock is stopped. One 30 second timeout is granted to each team. In addition, two technical timeouts will take place (as soon as the ball goes dead after seven and four minutes). A team is in a team foul situation when it has committed seven fouls. Once a team has reached 10 team fouls, any foul will be considered technical. Players are not excluded based on the number of personal fouls. A player committing two unsportsmanlike fouls will be disqualified from the game by the referees and may be disqualified from the event by the organiser. A team shall lose the game by forfeit if at the scheduled starting time the team is not present on the playing court with three players ready to play. In case of a forfeit, the game score is marked with w-0 or 0-w ("w" - win). A team shall lose by default if it leaves the court before the end of the game, or if all the players on the team are injured and/or disqualified. In case of a default situation, the winning team may choose to keep its score or have the game forfeited, whilst the defaulting team's score is set to 0 in all cases. The winning team must inform the referee of their decision immediately. In all cases, existing statistics remain. Men's Dunk Contest There are three phases: Qualification, semifinal and final. There are two rounds in the qualification and semifinal and three rounds in the final. Up to three dunk attempts are allowed in each round. Maximum time for a dunk attempt is 75 seconds in each round except in the third round of final when there is no time limit. The jury is composed of five members. Each judge awards 0 points for an unsuccessful dunk, or 5 to 10 points for a successful dunk. Five judges score each dunk, with the highest and lowest scores discarded, and the scores of the other three summed to give the points scored for the dunk. Each round ends with the first successful dunk, or with a round score of zero points if all three dunk attempts are unsuccessful. One player from each participating team is allowed to register and participate in the qualification. The first four ranked players in the qualification will advance to the semifinal. The first two ranked players in the semifinal will advance to the final. The third ranked player in the semifinal is awarded the bronze medal. The first ranked player in the final is awarded the gold medal, and the runner-up is awarded the silver medal. Qualification: The players start the first round in alphabetical order of their family name. The players are ranked according to the number of points scored (sum of points from two rounds). If there are ties for qualifying positions, the tied players will perform one additional dunk (three attempts). Tie breaking dunks are not graded, but the judges will take a majority decision after the last player has completed the final dunk attempt (four players designated). 6 Basketball 3x3 Baloncesto 3x3/ Basketball 3x3 Semifinal: Four players earn points in two rounds. The points gained in the qualification are not considered in any semifinal score. The players start in reverse order of their qualification rank, and if tied by family name. The sum of the points scored in the two rounds is used to calculate the semifinal ranking. The third ranked player in the semifinal is awarded the bronze medal. In the event of a tie, the tied players will perform one additional dunk (three attempts). Tie breaking dunks are not graded, but the judges will take a majority decision after the last player has completed the final dunk attempt. Final: Two players earn points in three rounds. The points gained in the semifinal are not considered in the final. The players start in reverse order of their semifinal rank, and if tied by family name. The sum of the points scored in the three rounds is used to calculate the final ranking. The winner of the final is awarded the gold medal and runner-up is awarded the silver medal. In the event of a tie, the tied players will perform one additional dunk (three attempts). Tie breaking dunks are not graded, but the judges will take a majority decision after the last player has completed the final dunk attempt. Women's Shoot-out Contest Two players from each participating team are allowed to register and participate in the qualification. The top four ranked players in the qualification advance to the final. The winner of the final is awarded the gold medal, the runner-up is awarded the silver medal and the third ranked player is awarded the bronze medal. The players are ranked in each phase according to the number of points earned, then by the time used to complete all shots. Qualification: The players start in alphabetical order of family name. Each player shoots 10 balls within a time limit of 30 seconds from the top of the arc. Each basket earns one point. The players are ranked according to the number of points scored, and then by the time used to complete all shots. If there are ties for qualifying positions, the tied players will repeat the same procedure (10 balls) until the ties are broken (four players designated). Final: The players start in reverse order of their qualification rank, and if tied by family name. Each player shoots 18 balls within a time limit of 60 seconds from four different positions. The positions are located as follows: position 1 (5 balls) - at the baseline 45 angle right wing, position 2 (5 balls) - the top of the arc (same location as qualification), position 3 (5 balls) - at the baseline 45 angle left wing, position 4 (3 balls) meters from the end line. Each shot scored from positions 1, 2 and 3 earns one point. Each shot scored from position 4 earns two points. The points gained in the qualification are not considered in the final score. The players are ranked according to the number of points scored, and then by the time used to complete all shots. In the event of a tie, the tied players will perform further attempts until the ties are broken.
