1 NOMINATION AND SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Eligibility (a) In order to be eligible to participate in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, athletes must: i. Meet the performance standards prescribed by the Qualification System; ii. Meet the age eligibility requirements born between 1 January 1994 and 31 December 1995; iii. Meet and continue to observe the eligibility requirements for Australian competitors described in the Olympic Charter; iv. Be Australian Citizens 2. Nominations to the Oceania Table Tennis Federation ( OTTF ) 2.1 Table Tennis Australia ( TTA ) will select 2 male and 2 female athletes who are born between 1 January 1994 and 31 December 1995 to participate at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games Continental Qualifying Tournament ( YOGCQT ) to be held in Auckland, New Zealand on April 1, In selecting the 2 male and 2 female athletes the National Selection Panel ( NSP ) will take into consideration results from the 2009 Australian Junior Championships and any scheduled 2009 / 2010 State and Territory events conducted after the 2009 Australian Junior Championships and up until the time selections are made in Nominations to the Australian Olympic Committee ( AOC ) 3.1 TTA may nominate a maximum of one (1) male and one (1) female athlete for selection in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games table tennis team. a. Boy s Singles 1 player b. Girl s Singles 1 player c. Mixed Teams 1 pair (made up of the 1 boys athlete and the 1 girls athlete) 3.2 On approval from the AOC a copy of the Nomination and Selection Criteria and the Regulations for the 2010 YOGCQT will be displayed on the TTA website and forwarded to all States & Territories and eligible athletes. 4. Making of Nominations TTA will provide its nominations to the AOC prior to 15 June, Any nominations made after this deadline will be invalid unless made pursuant to a direction or award in respect of an appeal against a nomination to TTA and which the appeal had been lodged for non-selection by 5:00pm on the second clear working day following the announcement of the Team. 5. Nomination of Athletes For the purposes of nomination to the AOC of individual athletes for selection to the 2010 Australian Youth Olympic Games Team, TTA will: 5.1 only nominate athletes it honestly believes have met the requirements described in the Nomination and Selection Criteria; 5.2 only nominate athletes who are a Participant Member of TTA at the closing date of entries for the 2010 YOGCQT; 2010 Youth Olympic Games Nomination and Selection Criteria 1

2 5.3 only nominate those athletes who have signed the consent to consideration for nomination form issued by TTA; 5.4 not nominate more athletes than the maximum number permitted under the Youth Olympic Games table tennis tournament regulations; 5.5 not nominate athletes who have breached the TTA Anti-Doping Policy and have had a sanction imposed which has not been completed; 5.6 only nominate those athletes who to the satisfaction of TTA have competed in the events and have satisfied the team participation requirements, as follows: a. the athlete has entered and competed in the boy s or girl s singles events at the 2009 Australian Junior Championships; and b. the athlete has finished as the winner or the next highest placed athlete of the boys or girls singles event at the 2010 YOGCQT. 6. Extenuating Circumstances For the purposes of determining whether an athlete has met the requirements of 5.6.a of this Nomination and Selection Criteria, TTA may exempt an athlete from compliance with any portion of this requirement on the ground or grounds of: a. injury or illness of the athlete (if exemption is sought on this ground, TTA shall have the right to require the athlete to undergo a medical examination by a medical practitioner or medical practitioners (at the athlete s expense) endorsed by TTA); b. family bereavement; and/or; c. any other factor which TTA, in its sole and absolute discretion, considers justifies such an exemption. 7. Appeals Any appeals or disputes regarding non-nomination by TTA will be resolved by the TTA s Appeal Policy, a copy of which is available on the TTA Website under the governance section 8. Selection by the AOC In order to be selected by the AOC as a member of the 2010 Australian Youth Olympic Team, each Athlete must: (1) have been nominated by Table Tennis Australia for selection by the AOC in accordance with Clause 5 of these Guidelines; (2) have signed (or if a minor, parent or guardian have signed) the 2010 Australian Youth Olympic Team Membership Agreement and agree to sign any entry form required by the IOC and the Organising Committee for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games; (3) have observed and continue to observe the provisions of the AOC s Constitution and its bylaws (as applicable) and must not have breached the AOC s Anti-Doping By-Law unless the athlete has already been sanctioned for the breach and has completed the sanction imposed. A copy of AOC By-Laws are available from olympics.com.au; (4) undergo medical assessment and testing (if requested) to the complete satisfaction of the AOC; (5) have disclosed information to the Athlete s NF or the AOC concerning any conduct that might breach the code of conduct required of Athletes selected to an Australian Youth Olympic Team under the 2010 Australian Youth Olympic Team Membership Agreement Youth Olympic Games Nomination and Selection Criteria 2

3 (6) acknowledges that any matter arising under clauses (1) (6) above is to be determined, or breach thereof excused, by the AOC in its sole and absolute discretion. If, in the opinion of the AOC, an Athlete fails to comply with one or more of the requirements in (1) (6) & (8) above, that Athlete will be ineligible for selection by the AOC. Table Tennis Australia will nominate athletes to the AOC for selection to the 2010 Australian Youth Olympic Team. The AOC has the sole and absolute discretion: (1) to determine whether an Athlete (or team where applicable) has met the requirements of selection; (2) to determine whether or not it should select the maximum number of Athletes (or teams where applicable) permitted by the Qualification System, notwithstanding the number of Athletes who may have met the requirements of selection and/or the Qualification System. 9. Participation Requirements (1) It is an IOC requirement that Athletes attend the 2010 Youth Olympic Games for the entire period of the Games August 2010 (inclusive). (2) It is an IOC requirement that Athletes participate in the Culture and Education Sessions organised by the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee during the Youth Olympic Games. (3) Prior to the commencement of the Youth Olympic Games, all athletes will be required to attend a Pre-Games Training and Preparation Camp to be held at Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney. The AOC will organise travel for interstate and NSW regional based athletes. The Camp is scheduled to take place from August Athletes are required to participate in this Camp unless written approval otherwise has been provided by the AOC. 10. Non-Compliance If an Athlete breaches any of the requirements of the Nomination and Selection criteria, the AOC may suspend or terminate the Athlete s selection to the Team or otherwise impose a sanction prescribed by the disciplining procedures set out in the AOC YOG Team Membership Agreement Youth Olympic Games Nomination and Selection Criteria 3

4 Attachment 1 CONSENT TO CONSIDERATION FOR NOMINATION Table Tennis Australia [insert name of athlete] I, the above athlete, consent to being considered for nomination by Table Tennis Australia ( TTA ) for selection to the 2010 Youth Olympic Team. I acknowledge that: 1 I have been provided with copies of and will be bound by and observe the terms of the Australian Olympic Committee ( AOC ) Selection By-Law, the AOC Selection Criteria applicable to my sport and TTA s Nomination Criteria. 2 The AOC s Selection By-Law and the Selection Criteria may be amended by the AOC from time to time. I will be bound by and observe the AOC s Selection By-Law and the Selection Criteria as amended, and acknowledge that any amendments to the AOC s Selection By-Law and Selection Criteria will be posted to the AOC s web site (Olympics.com.au) along with the Participation Criteria applicable to my event. 3 The decision whether or not to nominate me to the AOC for selection in the 2010 Youth Olympic Team is subject to the Nomination Criteria and is at the discretion of TTA. 4 If TTA decides to nominate me for selection to the 2010 Youth Olympic Team I will be required to complete a nomination form as determined by the AOC from time to time. 5 In the event that TTA nominates me to the AOC for appointment to the 2010 Youth Olympic Team I am not guaranteed to be selected in the 2010 Youth Olympic Team. The decision whether or not to select me as a member of the 2010 Youth Olympic Team is subject to the AOC s Selection By-Law and Selection Criteria and is at the sole and absolute discretion of the AOC. 6 My contact details are: Address: Facsimile: 7 I will notify TTA in writing of any change in the above contact details. Any failure by me to advise TTA in writing of a change in my contact details may be to my detriment. Any announcement to be made or notice required to be sent pursuant to the AOC s Selection By-Law may be sent to one or more of the above contacts, or such other contact as notified in writing by me, and in the case of: 7.1 post, the announcement or notice is deemed to have been received by me by properly addressing, prepaying and posting a letter containing the announcement or notice, and to have been received on the third business day after the date of its posting. 5 7.2 facsimile transmission, the announcement or notice is deemed to have been received by me by properly addressing the facsimile transmission and transmitting it to the number supplied by me and to have been received by me the next business day after the date of its transmission; and 7.3 , the announcement or notice is deemed to have been received by me by properly addressing the address and transmitting it to the address supplied by me and to have been received by me on the next business day after the date of transmission unless the AOC or TTA is advised that the transmission failed to send to the addressee. 6 Attachment 2 CONSENT TO CONSIDERATION FOR NOMINATION Parents/Guardians Acknowledgement for Minors Table Tennis Australia [insert name of athlete] I/we, the undersigned parents/guardians of the athlete agree (and if more than one, then jointly and severally agree) as follows: 1. the athlete is under the age of 18 years as at the date of signing the agreement; 2. I/we have read and understood the Australian Olympic Committee ( AOC ) Selection By-Law, the AOC Selection Criteria applicable to the sport of table tennis ( the agreements ) and have fully explained to the athlete the terms and effects of the agreements. To this end I/we have obtained independent legal advice as to the terms and effects of the agreements in order to clarify any doubts or concerns I/we may have had in this regard; 3. the athlete has read the agreements and, together with the benefit of our full explanation, understands its terms and effects; 4. the agreements are for the benefit of the athlete; and 5. the athlete's eligibility for being considered for nomination by TTA for selection to the 2010 Youth Olympic Team ( Team ) may be terminated in the event of any breach of these agreements. 7 Attachment 3 Regulation 3.8 of the International Table Tennis Federation Regulations Index Description 3.08 INTERNATIONAL ELIGIBILITY ITTF Handbook 2009 / Eligibility in Olympic title competitions is regulated separately by and additional eligibility regulations apply to World title events (4.1.3, 4.2.3, 4.3.6, 4.4.3) A player shall be regarded as representing an Association if he accepted to be nominated by this Association and subsequently participates in a competition listed in other than individual events at Open International Championships A player is eligible to represent an Association only if he is a national of the country in which that Association has jurisdiction, except that a player who has already represented an Association of which he was not a national in accordance with previous rules may retain that eligibility Where the players of more than one Association have the same nationality, a player may represent one of these Associations only, if he is born in or has his main residence in the territory controlled by that Association A player who is eligible to represent more than 1 Association shall have the right to choose which of the relevant Associations he will represent A player is eligible to represent a Continental Federation (1.17.1) in an event of continental teams only if he is eligible to represent a member Association of this Continental Federation according to A player shall not represent different Associations within a period of 3 years An Association may nominate a player under its jurisdiction (1.20) to enter any individual events of Open International Championships; such nomination may be indicated in results lists and ITTF publications but does not affect the eligibility of this player according to A player or his Association shall, if so requested by the referee, provide documentary evidence of his eligibility and his passport Any appeal on a question of eligibility shall be referred to an Eligibility Commission, consisting of the Executive Committee, the chairman of the Rules Committee, the chairman of the Ranking Committee and the chairman of the Athletes Commission, whose decision shall be final Youth Olympic Games Nomination and Selection Criteria 7
