1 OFFICE OLYMPICS SPORTS KIT This kit contains all you need to get into a competitive and fun spirit during the Olympics whilst raising money for young patients at Birmingham Children s Hospital

Birmingham Children s Hospital Office Olympics Sports Kit In this kit you will find: With the 2012 Olympic Games only a mere sprint away, now is the time to get your colleagues in the Olympic spirit. Office Olympics can suit everyone, from the fitness fanatic to the slothlike office worker. It is the creative way to take part in the Olympics without breaking into a sweat! From the lighting of the torch to the final award ceremony, you will find everything you need in this kit to create your own Office Olympics with minimal effort for a high outcome of fun! Have a look at The Games section and if you re feeling really energetic after that then get creative and come up with a few of your own games. 3 Let the Games Begin! Opening Ceremony Why not nominate some Olympic Ambassadors to do a lap of the building with the torch to begin The Games! On pages 5 and 6 you will find a template to cut out an The Olympic Torch so there really is no excuse! Programme of Games We have laid out some examples of Office Olympic Games for you to choose from, or to give you ideas to create your own Games. 1. Shot Put - Use an eraser and a strong arm to lob it into a nearby bin. Closest throw wins 2. Rowing - Line up your swivel chairs and row to the other end of the room. Fastest team wins 3. Archery - Use a rubber band and make a target on a nearby wall to see who has the best aim 4. Arm Wrestling - Host different competition categories from light weight to heavy weight 5. Badminton - Screw up recycled paper into a ball, use your mouse mat and ping it back and forth over the desk with another sportsman 6. Javelin - make a paper aeroplane to see who can throw the longest distance Additional ideas (but they ll need equipment): 1. Rhythmic Gymnastics - you ll need some hula hoops and some swinging hips 2. Table Tennis play tiddlywinks across the desk An optional extra for the Opening Ceremony: why not hold an Opening Ceremony Feast? Each competitor could provide a dish from around the world and athletes and supporters make a donation to try a dish. 4 Organise a sweep-stake Why not make it interesting? Organise a sweep stake within your office, pick a country and make a donation. The person with the country who has the highest medal tally wins 50% of the money, with the remaining funds donated to help children with cancer at Birmingham Children s Hospital. 5 Office Olympics Templates You will need: Scissors Glue or sticky tape String (for the bunting) Ribbon (for the medals) 1. The Olympic Torch This comes in two parts. Cut the base of the The Olympic Torch out and roll to form a cone shape. Secure it with a suitable adhesive. Cut out the flame and stick to the inside of the base. 2. Bunting Cut out the Office Olympics bunting, attach to a piece of string and decorate your workplace. Feel free to print out more pages if you need more bunting. 3. Medals A suitable reward for your winning athletes! Trim them out and tie a piece of ribbon or string through the hole. Top tip: Mount the medals on card to give them a heavy weight feel. Can Make A Difference Being in hospital can be a difficult and confusing experience for anyone, but especially for children so everyone at Birmingham Children s Hospital works really hard to make any hospital visit as welcoming, comfortable and reassuring as possible. Gifts from generous people like you go a long way to contributing towards a positive experience in hospital, from purchasing leading edge equipment to play items for children of all ages. The current fundraising priority is to redevelop our cancer unit which is housed in a 1960 s extension. With over 10% of children in the UK living with cancer coming to our unit because we are considered experts in the field, we want to be able to treat even more children by building more bed spaces, adding playrooms, upgrading the parent s room and generally, improving the layout and look of the unit. Read on to find out the difference you will make from one of our parents perspectives: Izzy s Story Have you ever had one of those moments, when you know that your life is going to change forever? It s a gut feeling; someone squeezing at your heart and you know that from this point everything will be different but you just don t know how. In July 2010 I had that feeling, my daughter Izzy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. After 6 weeks of treatment, Izzy was responding well, but shortly after, her bone marrow test showed that she was high risk for relapse. In essence, it meant that Izzy would have to undergo 47 weeks of aggressive chemotherapy. If I could have done it for her, I would, but to see how she coped was inspirational. Birmingham Children s Hospital has never shied away from telling us the truth. They have always been there to reassure us, comfort us, answer every question, and go the extra mile to help. They are saving my daughter s life. But the unit is old and tired and the one thing that would really lift everyone s spirit would be a bright, cheerful unit that is purpose built to the needs of a modern family. Izzy and I both hope that you have so much fun competing in Office Olympics and that you ll also be really proud of everything you ll be doing to help families such as ours. Thank you, Vic x PAGE 8

How to send your donation to us Why not create a timetable of events to organise the order of the day amongst your staff. Promote it on your intranet for maximum exposure.
