ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY All athletes must cmply with the prvisins f the Olympic Charter currently in frce, including but nt limited t, Rule 41 (Natinality f Cmpetitrs) and Rule 43 (Wrld Anti-Dping Cde and the Olympic Mvement Cde n the Preventin f Manipulatin f Cmpetitins). Only thse athletes wh have cmplied with the Olympic Charter may participate in the Olympic Games. 2 D. QUALIFICATION PATHWAY QUALIFICATION PLACES The qualificatin events are listed in hierarchical rder f qualificatin. With regard t the qualificatin prcess fr Great Britain, by n later than 31 July 2018, the BOA must designate the lead teams (ne per gender) which slely will be able t btain qualificatin fr Great Britain t the Olympic Games Tky The decisin will apply acrss the different phases f qualificatin. MEN Number f Quta Places 4 teams (48 athletes) Qualificatin Event 2018/19 Wrld Rugby Men s Sevens Wrld Series The teams ranked 1 t 4 in the final rankings f the 2018/19 Wrld Rugby Men s Sevens Wrld Series will btain ne (1) quta place fr their NOC t the Olympic Games Tky It is intended that the 2018/19 Wrld Rugby Men s Sevens Wrld Series will cnsist f ten (10) turnaments and will cmmence in December 2018 and finish by 30 June The number f turnaments in the Series and the dates f each turnament will be cnfirmed by 31 July teams (72 athletes) 2019 Wrld Rugby Reginal Assciatin Men s Olympic Qualificatin Turnaments The winner f each f the designated 2019 Wrld Rugby Reginal Assciatin Men s Sevens Olympic Qualificatin Turnaments will qualify a quta place fr their NOC t the Olympic Games Tky 2020 as fllws: Africa - 1 team Asia - 1 team Eurpe - 1 team Nrth America - 1 team Oceania 1 team Suth America - 1 team All 2019 Wrld Rugby Reginal Assciatin Men s Sevens Olympic Qualificatin Turnaments are intended t take place between 30 June 2019 and 31 December thrugh the 2018/19 Wrld Rugby Men s Sevens Wrld Series are nt eligible t participate in the Reginal Olympic Qualificatin turnaments unless therwise agreed t by Wrld Rugby. The NOCs participating in the 2019 Wrld Rugby Reginal Assciatin Men s Olympic Qualificatin Turnaments, must cnfirm their participatin t the Olympic Games t Wrld Rugby in case they btain a quta place at the same time as registering their team(s) fr the respective Qualificatin Turnaments. 5 * In case tw (2) teams qualify frm the Nrth America Regin in the Wrld Rugby Wmen s Sevens Series, the next highest ranked NOC in the Final Olympic Repechage Turnament will qualify a quta place fr their NOC t the Olympic Games Tky HOST COUNTRY PLACES Men & Wmen Japan is guaranteed a quta place in the Men s and Wmen s cmpetitins subject t nging and regular participatin in Wrld Rugby apprved internatinal high-perfrmance Rugby Sevens cmpetitins by bth teams. E. CONFIRMATION PROCESS FOR QUOTA PLACES CONFIRMATION OF QUALIFICATION PLACES Fllwing each qualificatin event, Wrld Rugby will publish the results n its website and infrm the respective NOCs f their allcated quta places within three days (3) f the cnclusin f the qualificatin event. The NOCs will then have tw (2) weeks t cnfirm if they wish t use these quta places, as detailed in paragraph H. Qualificatin Timeline. CONFIRMATION OF HOST COUNTRY PLACES The Hst NOC/NF has t cnfirm the use f the allcated quta places t Wrld Rugby by 31 July 2018 F. REALLOCATION OF UNUSED QUOTA PLACES REALLOCATION OF UNUSED QUALIFICATION PLACES Men If an allcated quta place is nt cnfirmed by the NOC by the cnfirmatin f quta place deadline r is declined by the NOC, the quta place will be reallcated as fllws: - If the team qualified thrugh the 2018/19 Wrld Rugby Men s Sevens Wrld Series, the quta place will be reallcated t the next best ranked team frm the 2018/19 Series. - If the team qualified thrugh the Reginal Qualificatin Turnament, the quta place will be reallcated t the next best ranked team frm the same Reginal Qualificatin turnament subject t validatin f the Wrld Rugby Executive Cmmittee (ExC) based n nging and regular participatin f the team in Wrld Rugby apprved internatinal high-perfrmance Rugby Sevens cmpetitins. - In respect f the Final Olympic Repechage Turnament, the NOCs f all teams that have qualified t participate in the turnament must cnfirm prir t the turnament that the NOC will accept the qualificatin place. If due t exceptinal circumstances the quta place cannt be filled then it will be reallcated t the next best ranked team frm the Final Olympic Repechage Turnament. Page 5/7

Shuld Japan qualify thrugh the Wrld Rugby Men s Sevens Wrld Series, the place will be reallcated t the next best ranked NOC, nt yet qualified, frm the Wrld Rugby Men s Sevens Wrld Series. Wmen If the Japan NOC des nt wish t use its allcated quta place it will be reallcated t the next highest ranked team frm the Wrld Rugby Wmen s Sevens Wrld Series. G. GENERAL PRINCIPLES REGARDING THE USE OF P ALTERNATE ATHLETES P ALTERNATE ATHLETES P alternate athletes are nn-cmpeting athletes, and are nt included within the athlete s quta as described in Paragraph B. P alternate athletes can nly becme cmpeting athletes as per the cnditins utlined in the IOC/Tky 2020 Late Athlete Replacement plicy.
