A Training is a grup f athletes named t a Biathln Canada natinal team that will train tgether between May 1, 2019 and March 31, The ff-seasn will be defined as being between May 1, 2019 and Nvember 1, The nature f the cmmitment (i.e. camp based vs. centralized) is dependant n the Training and will be defined in the Training s and Selectin Criteria sectin belw. NOTE: The ability fr Biathln Canada t ffer centralized/camp-based Training s is dependent n budget. Therefre, psitins described belw may nt be filled due t budgetary cnsideratins. Reference dcument: ATHLETE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM SELECTION CRITERIA (AAP). Eligibility: Each Training defines specific eligibility requirements; hwever, all athletes must meet the fllwing eligibility requirements: - The athlete must be a Canadian Citizen. - The athlete must be a member, in gd standing, with Biathln Canada. - The athlete must abide by the Biathln Canada Cde f Cnduct, plicies, prcedures, and guidelines. Training s and Selectin Criteria: 1. Senir Natinal Training : Number f Fur (4) men and fur (4) wmen with the pssibility t add additinal athletes in rder t meet the strategic high perfrmance bjectives f Biathln Canada. Envirnment: Centralized at the Natinal Training Centre in Canmre, Alberta. Caching: Senir Natinal team caches will lead this grup. Prgram: - Training based in Canmre, AB. - Training camps and activities will be planned thrughut the ff-seasn in different lcatins as required - An individualized Year Training Plan (YTP) will be prvided t each athlete. Eligibility: - Athletes must train at the Natinal Training Centre in Canmre frm May 1 t Nvember 1, 2019 under the leadership and directin f Biathln Canada caching staff, unless engaged in apprved activities utside the Natinal Training Centre. 1

Athlete achieving the secnd best AAP Carding Criteria 3. Athlete achieving the third best AAP Carding Criteria 4. Discretinary Selectin (as per the definitin belw) 5. Pssible additinal psitins will be selected via Discretinary Selectin. 1. Athlete achieving the tp AAP Carding Criteria 2. Athlete achieving the secnd best AAP Carding Criteria 3. Pssible additinal psitins will be selected via Discretinary Selectin. *NOTE that AAP Carding Criteria applies t receiving a carding thrugh the AAP prgram. Athletes wh have received carding fr mre than seven years will need t meet the Perfrmance Requirements as utlined in Sectin III, C (as per the AAP) in rder t be ranked fr psitin 1, 2, r 3 nted abve. Otherwise the athlete culd be cnsidered fr Discretinary Selectin. 2. Senir Natinal Develpment Training Number f T a maximum f eight (8) athletes. Envirnment: Camp-based Caching: The Lng Term Athlete Develpment Directr will lead this grup. Prgram: - Training camps and activities, in cnjunctin with the Senir Natinal Training r U20 Training, will be planned thrughut the ff-seasn with respect t the training age and needs f the individual athlete. Camps will likely take place in Canmre, Alberta. - Athlete mnitring and testing. - Additinal resurces and services (full prgram t be defined) Eligibility: - Athletes brn in 1995 t 2002 are eligible - It is recmmended that athletes train at ne f Biathln Canada s apprved training centres: Biathln Alberta Training Centre, Whistler Nrdic Develpment Centre, Centre de Biathln d Excellence du Quebec, OR a High Perfrmance Club prgram (see Appendix 1: Training Centre and High Perfrmance Club recmmendatins). - Biathln Canada requires access t athlete training plans and diaries. It is recmmended that prgrams utilize Training Peaks. 2

3 - YTP must be apprved and mnitred by the Biathln Canada LTAD Directr in cllabratin with the athlete s individual cach. Senir Natinal Develpment Training 1. Athlete achieves the fllwing standard in an individual (nn-relay) event: a. U25: 2 x Tp 16 IBU Cup r 2 x Tp 50 WC/WCH b. U22: 2 x Tp 30 IBU Cup r 2 x Tp 60 WC/WCH, r 1 x Tp 16 WJCH/JIBUC r a cmbinatin f the abve. c. U19: 1 x Tp 6 WYCH 2. Junir athlete with best individual (nn-relay) (belw) (1 male, 1 female) 3. Yuth athlete with best individual (nn-relay) (belw) (1 male, 1 female) 4. Discretinary Selectin 3. U24 Training Number f T a maximum f eight (8) athletes. Envirnment: Camp-based Caching: The Lng Term Athlete Develpment Directr will lead this grup Prgram: - Training camps and activities will be planned thrughut the ff-seasn in different lcatins. Eligibility: - Athletes brn in 2000 t 2004 are eligible - The athlete must be training at a Biathln Canada recgnized Club r a Biathln Canada apprved Training Centre. - Biathln Canada requires access t athlete training plans and diaries. It is recmmended that prgrams utilize Training Peaks. - YTP must be apprved and mnitred by the Biathln Canada LTAD Directr in cllabratin with the athlete s individual cach. Athlete criteria t a maximum f 24 athletes Described in rank rder i.e. as sn as the quta f athletes is reached, n further psitins will be ffered. U20 Training 1. Athletes qualifying fr Biathln Canada s 2019 Wrld Yuth Champinships team. 2. Yuth athlete with best individual (nn-relay) (belw) (remving any athletes wh have been selected fr anther Training r selected in pint #1) (1 male, 1 female). 3. Tp 3 Senir by/girl with best individual (nn-relay) (belw) (remving any athletes wh have been selected fr anther Training r selected in pint #1) (3 male, 3 female). 4. U19 Athletes wh qualify fr a Junir IBU Cup 5. Athletes achieving a Tp 5 perfrmance at Crss Cuntry Ski de Fnd Canada 2019 Natinal Champinships. 6. Discretinary Selectin (as defined belw) 4

5 Natinals Ranking: Athletes will be ranked using Race Pints awarded as per the Wrld Cup Discipline Pints Scring System (IBU Event and Cmpetitin Rules (2015/2016)) There will be three individual (nn-relay) cmpetitins at Natinals. The Race Pints f the best tw-f-three races f a particular athlete will be added tgether fr ranking. In the event that nly tw individual races are ffered at Natinals (i.e. due t frce majeure snw cnditins, cld weather etc.) then Race Pints frm bth races will cunt twards the ranking. In the event that ne individual race is ffered at Natinals (i.e. due t frce majeure snw cnditins, cld weather etc.) then Race Pints frm the ne race will cunt twards ranking. In the event f a tie, cmpetitr s Perfrmance Percentage fr each race that cntributes t the Race Pints ranking will be calculated by dividing the average f the tp three finishers final times by the final time f a particular athlete, truncated t tw decimal pints. Of the three races, the Perfrmance Percentages fr the tw races used in ranking fr Race Pints will be averaged fr ranking. In the event that there are nly tw individual races ffered, bth Perfrmance Percentages will be averaged t calculate the cmpetitr s Perfrmance Percentage. In the event that there is nly ne individual race ffered, the Perfrmance Percentage frm that race will be used t calculate the cmpetitr s Perfrmance Percentage. Shuld there still be a tie, Discretinary Selectin will be used t determine the ranking fr the tied athletes in questin. A Yuth/Junir athlete must achieve an verall Perfrmance Percentage f at least 90% during Natinals in rder t be eligible fr selectin. Overall Perfrmance Percentage will be calculated as fllws: One individual race is ffered: The Perfrmance Percentage frm that race will determine the verall Perfrmance Percentage. Tw individual races are ffered: The Perfrmance Percentages frm bth races will be averaged t determine the verall Perfrmance Percentage. Three individual races are ffered: The Perfrmance Percentages fr the tw races used in ranking fr Race Pints will be averaged t determine the verall Perfrmance Percentage. Discretinary Selectin: The High Perfrmance Wrking Grup (HPWG), in cnsultatin with caches, will make Training selectin decisins in cnsideratin f any r all f the fllwing: Current and histrical results Demnstrated ability t meet Biathln Canada s bjectives fr the highperfrmance prgram. This includes ptential t meet lng-term bjectives f Olympic, Wrld Cup, r Wrld Champinship medals thrugh 2026 and beynd. Strategic lng-term athlete develpment Selectin prcess impacted by illness, injury r frce majeure 5

6 Recent imprvements in perfrmance parameters, such as shting perfrmance r ski speed Recent decline in perfrmance parameters, such as shting perfrmance r ski speed Ability t effectively cntribute t a relay perfrmance Athlete behavir and cmpliance t Biathln Canada s plicies, prcedures, and guidelines. Shuld n athletes meet established criteria fr a team psitin, r shuld an athlete decline selectin, the HPWG may: Fill the psitin as a discretinary selectin; r, Leave the psitin unfilled. The HPWG may chse nt t fill an available tur psitin based n Biathln Canada budget cnsideratins and verall lng-term athlete develpment strategy. Training Selectin Prcess Training selectins will be made by the High Perfrmance Wrking Grup (HPWG), which is cmprised f the Biathln Canada General Manager and Bard Representative. Starting n April 10, 2019 the HPWG will cntact athletes fr psitins n selected teams starting with the Senir Natinal Training and finishing with the U20 Training. Athletes will have seven days t prvide their acceptance s that all teams can be cnfirmed by April 26, Upn acceptance f their psitin, athletes will sign the Athlete Agreement and cmplete an athlete infrmatin sheet. Questin and Answer: (answers in bld) Hw many camps will there be thrughut the ff-seasn at each level? The number f camps thrughut the ff-seasn will depend n the needs f the athletes selected fr the team and the finalized budget. Fr camps, the Senir Natinal Develpment Training will train alngside the Senir Natinal Training. The U24 Training will have a few camps in cnjunctin with the Senir Natinal Develpment Training and Senir Natinal Training. Thrughut the dcument it mentins that "Biathln Canada requires access t athlete training plans and diaries and that the YTP must be apprved and mnitred by the LTAD Directr in cllabratin with the athlete s individual cach." What exactly des this mean and what wuld BiCan d with this infrmatin? This data sharing is designed t be helpful t bth the athlete, cach, club, and Biathln Canada. Infrmatin will be used t track athlete prgress, mnitr ur develpment pathway, gather infrmatin f best practices, identify gaps in ur system, blster athlete accuntability t their training and mnitring, and prvide pprtunity fr cach develpment. If I have been ffered a psitin n the Wrld Yuth Champinships team, but cannt accept it, wuld I still qualify fr that selectin criteria fr the U20 Develpment? Yes. The same answer applies t a U19 athlete ffered a psitin fr a Junir IBU Cup. 6

7 APPENDIX 1 - Training Centre and High Perfrmance Club Recmmendatins Training Centres and High Perfrmance (HP) Club prgrams need t build prgrams t prduce an ptimal training envirnment fr Canada s best develpment biathletes and t align with Biathln Canada s strategic develpment strategy. As such, we recmmend athletes train at a centre r high perfrmance club with the fllwing cmpnents: Be within 50km t a biathln range. Range has pavement fr rllerskiing. Winter snw making/strage r reliable early seasn snw access. Cmpetitin develpment certified r equivalent caches. 8:1 Athlete:Cach rati. 5+ days per week cached sessins. Basic Integrated Supprt (IST) (basic access t strength specialist, physi/massage therapy, perfrmance dietician, sprt psychlgy, dctr). Biathln Canada directed testing prtcls (incremental/mas twice in training seasn bld analysis 2-3 per year thrugh team/club physician). Participatin in Testival West r East (testival) Use f Biathln Canada training plan, diary, and mnitring system - Training Peaks HP Clubs must prmte grassrts prgram develpment within their club. 7
