Prgram Outline The main purpse f the Badmintn Australia s (BA) High Perfrmance (HP) prgram is t achieve internatinal success. A key part f the HP Prgram is t identify and supprt the athletes with the ptential t cntribute t the Australian Institute f Sprt (AIS) Australian Winning Edge targets (AWE). This dcument cntains a descriptin f the Badmintn Australia Supprt Structure (BASS) and utlines hw athletes will be selected fr and retained in the BASS prgram and selected and retained t the Natinal Squad. The selectin plicy is based n the Australian Institute f Sprts (AIS) Winning Edge Athlete Categrisatin. The selectin plicy will als be used t select athletes fr the Natinal Squad The selectin plicy will be amended accrdingly t reflect the changes in badmintn at the highest level. The benefits athletes may receive will be depending upn the funding and resurces available t Badmintn Australia at the time. Winning Edge Winning Edge targets fr Australia set by the AIS are: tp 5 Natin at the Olympics; tp Natins at the Cmmnwealth Games and 20 Wrld Champinships each year. Winning Edge Athlete Categries will prvide a cnsistent basis, within Badmintn and acrss sprts t: Identify the badmintn athletes with the greatest ptential t cntribute t the Winning Edge targets; Track their perfrmance ver time; and Infrm the priritisatin f supprt Badmintn Australia High Perfrmance Aims The High Perfrmance Prgram is delivered via strategic initiatives utlined in the Badmintn Australia High Perfrmance Plan These initiatives are addressing the existing prgram s strength, weakness, pprtunities and threats. The BASS prgram is designed t prvide the apprpriate supprt t ensure that athletes and teams can perfrm at maximal ptential and achieve internatinal success. Badmintn is catagrised by the AIS as an Emerging Sprt that can cntribute lng term (2018 and beynd) t the Winning Edge aims. The aim f Badmintn Australia prgram is t identify and prepare athletes t: Win medals supprted by 4th-8th placements at Olympics, Wrld Champinships and Cmmnwealth Games. Membership Membership f the BASS and the Natinal Squad is ffered by BA as an investment in an athlete t help them t meet the aims f the prgram. Membership is nt ffered t athletes as a reward f past success. Stakehlders and partners The BASS prgram and verall Natinal HP Prgram is resurced by BA and supprted by partners including the Australian Institute f Sprt (AIS), the Australian Cmmnwealth Games Assciatin (ACGA), the Australian Olympic Cmmittee (AOC), the State Institutes especially Victrian Institute f Sprt (VIS) and spnsrs. 2 The BASS is split int tw sectins: BASS Prgrams Sectin 1 AIS Enhanced BASS - Level Pdium t Emerging This prgram is targeted at athletes with the mst realistic chance t meet the aims f the BASS criteria with the ultimate gal f winning medals. The athletes in the Enhances BASS 1-5 will als be the athletes selected fr the Badmintn Australia Natinal Squad. Sectin 2 Team Internatinal BASS This prgram is targeted at athletes wh are tp 10 n the Australian Ranking and / r are selected t represent Australia in the fllwing events: Olympic Cmmnwealth Games Wrld Champinships Team Wrld Champinships Oceania Team Champinship Thmas / Uber Qualificatin Eligibility The nn-perfrmance related eligibility requirements: Be an Australian citizen and eligible and available t represent Australia in internatinal cmpetitin* Be a registered member, have a signed athlete agreement, and have an agreed athlete perfrmance plan with Badmintn Australia. Be eligible and available t represent Badmintn Australia in internatinal cmpetitin, and be actively training twards the relevant benchmark event. Maintain a lifestyle cnducive t sprting excellence Maintain the high standard f persnal behavir expected f an athlete representing Australia Nt bring the sprt f badmintn, Badmintn Australia r the ASC int disrepute Cmply with all anti-dping requirements that are set ut fr badmintn and the Australian Sprts Cmmissin (ASC) *players that are representing Australia at Internatinal turnaments and are in the prcess f becming an Australian citizen can t be included in the the Enhanced BASS but can be included in the Team Internatinal BASS as a Team member. 5 Wrld Junir Ranking (U19) tp 30 fr dubles r singles Scres minimum 4.5 n the BA TTPM prfile analyses Capable f mving t BASS Develping. The perid that the athlete spends n Emerging level is much mre subjective. The Selectrs will endeavur t keep a player n the Emerging level until the player has prgressed t the next level r it is clear t Selectrs that the player des nt have the capacity t prgress within a reasnable timeframe. This level will als be used fr helping players transiting frm junir t senir badmintn. Indicatrs that prgressin t at least Level 4A can be achieved in the next tw years: Scres and Prgressin in the Athlete develpment plan Imprvements in Wrld Ranking Junir r/ and senir Imprvements in results Player wh des nt satisfy the abve levels but is cnsidered capable f winning a medal at the 2018 CWG. Emerging B Only players accepted by the ACGA will be included in the Cmmnwealth Level 5 BA Supprt Structure (April 2017)

Team Internatinal BASS 2/ Athletes shuld as a guideline achieve an Australian ranking f Tp 10 fr singles events r tp 10 fr dubles/mixed events. 1/ Athletes wh qualify fr Team Internatinal BASS under criteria 1 nly will be Internatinal / Team BASS members frm the day f selectin. 2/ Athletes wh qualify fr Team Internatinal BASS under Criteria 2 shuld as a guideline cntinue a ranking f tp 10 n the Australian Rankings and als play minimum f three BWF Internatinal sanctined turnaments annually. 7 Applicatin The entry criteria fr define what standards eligible athletes need t achieve t qualify fr each Level and what they must d t remain and prgress. Perfrmance criteria must be achieved in ne categry Achieving entry criteria fr the Enhanced BASS as set ut in the selectin plicy nly means that the player will be cnsidered fr the prgram at the relevant level; it des nt give the player abslute right t membership. The age bands mentined are fr guidance nly and based n internatinal benchmarking. The use f age bands wuld nly be a factr cnsidered by the selectrs in the case f a cmbinatin f limited prgress and the athlete being utside r at the upper end f the age band. Applicatin frm n the Badmintn Australia website. Search under the High Perfrmance tab. Injuries and Illness A review will be undertaken after three mnths t assess the cmmitment and prgress f the athlete against agreed perfrmance targets and if unsatisfactry the athlete wuld be given a three mnth ntice perid befre being remved. Selectin Panel The High Perfrmance Directr tgether with the Natinal Caches, Natinal selectrs and an independent bserver frm the BA High Perfrmance Advisry Cmmittee will select the athletes. The grup will cnsult the Natinal caches, sprts science and medical staff. Appeal / Review If a player des nt agree with the Selectin Panel decisin they may seek a review: The request fr a review must set ut the reasn why the player classificatin r nn-classificatin is incrrect. The Selectin Panel will cnsider the request fr a review with 21 days f receipt and shall infrm the player f their decisin. There shall be n right t further review r appeal Capacity Badmintn Australia has limited funding and resurces and will invest the funding and resurces int thse athletes mst likely t meet the aims f the Prgram. 8 APPENDIX 1 Evidence based criteria T prvide evidence n hw ur athletes are tracking we will use turnament results and the fficial wrld ranking. Frm the wrld ranking we can create a Cmmnwealth seeding and an Olympic seeding. The players / pairs fficial wrld ranking is based n the sum f the players/ pairs best 10 BWF sanctined internatinal senir turnaments in a 12 mnth perid. Higher level turnaments prvide pprtunity fr gaining mre pints than lwer level turnaments. Pdium Evidence based criteria * Wrld Champinship and Olympics medals are wn by players / pair s wrld ranked inside tp 20. Wrld Champinship and Olympics Gld are wn by players / pair s wrld ranked inside tp 10. The players / pairs that wn a medal being ranked utside tp 20 had all achieved a final at a Premier Super Series r / and Super Series Turnament within the last 12 mnth f winning a medal. *based n results frm the last 4 wrld champinships and last 3 Olympic Games Pdium Ready Evidence based criteria * Wrld Champinship and Olympics 4 th 8 th placements are achieved by players / pairs wrld ranked inside tp 25. The players / pairs that achieved a 4 th 8 th placement being ranked utside tp 25 had all achieved quarter finals at Premier Super Series r / and Super Series turnament within the last 12 mnth. *based n results frm the last 4 wrld champinships and last 3 Olympic Games Pdium Ptential It varies hw lng it take t prgress t this level Imprvements in the wrld ranking will be a strng indicatr that the player / pair are imprving. Imprvements in turnament results and achieving entry level results will supprt the evidence that the player / pair can achieve Level 2A Cmmnwealth This level is based n a being capable f winning a Gld medal at the Cmmnwealth Games. Emerging & Develpment It varies hw lng it take t prgress t this level Imprvements in the wrld ranking will be a strng indicatr that the player / pair are imprving. What is the difference between Enhanced BASS and Team Internatinal BASS? The athletes in the Enhanced BASS will als be the athletes selected fr the Badmintn Australia Natinal Squad Prgram. Team Internatinal BASS: in additin t the BA Natinal Squad Team Internatinal BASS will include thse players that are selected in Australian Teams t participate in Majr events (e.g. Thmas / Uber Cups, Sudirman Cup, Oceania Team Champinships etc.) and the highest ranked players n the Australian Rankings. 3. What is the difference between a Natinal Squad and a Natinal team? The Badmintn Australia (BA) Natinal Squad cnsists f thse players within the Enhanced BASS that will receive a variety f supprt frm BA (supprt level determined n an individual basis). BA will wrk with these players n an nging basis t achieve the gals f the AWE prgram A Natinal Team is any team selected t participate in a specific event e.g. Thmas / Uber Cups, Sudirman Cup, Oceania Team Champinships etc. Players selected in these teams will be a part f Team BASS frm the date f selectin until cmpletin f the event. 4. What d I receive as an Enhanced BASS member? As a member f Enhanced BASS yu will receive the fllwing but are nt limited t. a. Natinal Squad Prgram Member b. Turnament and training supprt c. IAP (Individual Athlete Plan) d. S&C Supprt e. Sprts Science Supprt f. Caching and Internatinal Events g. Financial Supprt. 5. What d I receive as a Team Internatinal BASS member? Financial Supprt targeted t the specific team event 6. Where is the Natinal Squad Based The Natinal Squad training centre is at the Melburne Sprts and Aquatic centre in Melburne. 10 7. Hw d I receive funding t play turnaments? And hw is funding decided? In rder t receive funding t play turnaments athletes must qualify as a member f Enhanced BASS. Funding within the Enhanced BASS is at the discretin f the High Perfrmance Directr and will take int accunt the fllwing a. BASS categry b. Perfrmances c. Players needs 8. Hw d I make a natinal team fr a majr event (e.g. Cmmnwealth Games, Olympic Games, Thmas / Uber Cup etc.)? T be selected yu must meet specific selectin criteria f each particular event. Can I play in Natinal Teams if I d nt qualify fr Enhanced Bass? Yes yu can. There will be specific selectin criteria and nminatin frms fr all BA champinships teams. Hwever yu can shw yur interest in playing team cmpetitins fr Australia by cmpleting the BASS nminatin frm and indicating the events yu are interested in playing. This will allw the high perfrmance team t wrk mre clsely with yu and keep yu infrmed n any infrmatin regarding the events. 10. Hw d I jin BASS Athletes can apply t jin the BASS by cmpleting an applicatin frm n the BA website (badmintn.rg.au) and searching under the High Perfrmance tab. 11. What is my TTPM Prfile TTPM Prfile is an verall analysis f a player s skills and abilities. It takes int accunt fur key areas Technical, Tactical, Physical and Mental. Players are scred ut f 10 in a variety f different attributes under each area, with the average scre being the players verall TTPM Prfile scre. The BASS selectin panel will create a TTPM prfile fr yu nce yu submit yur applicatin and have met the result based entry criteria, hwever yu can d a self-analysis using the TTPM Prfile template n the BA website. 12. What is selectin based n Selectin criteria fr the BASS is ut lined in the BASS selectin plicy n the BA website and takes int accunt a variety f different criteria including - Wrld Ranking - Internatinal Turnament Perfrmances in the last 12 mnths - TTPM Prfile - Age - Develpment Ptential - Australian Rankings 13.
