1 27 February 2017 RE: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS - BWF ATHLETES COMMISSION ELECTIONS Dear Member Assciatins We are seeking nminatins fr the electins fr the BWF Athletes Cmmissin. Please pass this infrmatin n t yur players. There are three (3) psitins becming available. These psitins are fr members whse term is expiring this year - Yuhan Tan (BEL), Greysia Plii (INA), Hans-Kristian Vittinghus (DEN). The three newly elected members will have a fur year term ( ) n the Athletes Cmmissin and they will jin the current members - Ken Ridder (NED), Tang Yuanting (CHN) and Shintar Ikeda (JPN), whse term expires in 2019 (see the prfiles f Cmmissin members linked here). REPRESENTATION / NOMINATIONS Nminatins can be made by active badmintn players r a Member Assciatin. Please nte that under the regulatins, n tw elected members f the Athletes Cmmissin shall cme frm the same BWF Member Assciatin. S that means that n nminatins can be received frm the Netherlands, China and Japan as there are already members f the Cmmissin frm thse Member Assciatins. Please use the nminatin frm this can be dwnladed frm the BWF website (linked here). ELECTIONS Electins will take place by frm 26 April t 24 May Thse players at the TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup can als vte in persn at the cmpetitin venue n Wednesday 24 May After the electins, the new Cmmissin will meet and select a Chair. This persn will becme a BWF Cuncil Member. Being an Athlete Cmmissin member requires time. 2 2/3 AIM OF THE COMMISSION The Athletes Cmmissin is a peer elected bdy and is the link between the players and the BWF. Our aim is t ensure that athlete s pinins are heard at the highest level f gvernance in the BWF. We aim t invlve urselves in relevant wrk t facilitate the psitive develpment f the player s experience and the sprt as a whle. ELECTION PROCESS March 2017 Deadline fr Nminatins Nminatins fr electin t the Athletes Cmmissin must be made in writing using the Nminatin Frm and sent t Patricia Wng p.wng@bwfbadmintn.rg 10 April 2017 Cnfirmatin f Candidates the list f candidates will be sent by t Member Assciatins, badmintn players and the candidates themselves. The list f candidates will als be published n the BWF website. 26 April 24 May 2017 (2000 Gld Cast Time) Vting by . Use nly the fficial Vting Frm. Send this t electins@bwfbadmintn.rg 24 May 2017 Vting in Persn - players at the TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup can vte in persn at the Cmpetitin Venue frm 09:00 t 20:00 (8.00 PM lcal time). Once vting is cmplete the female and male player with the highest number f vtes will autmatically be elected t the Cmmissin. The final psitin will g t the player (male r female) with the next highest number f vtes. I wuld like t encurage all players and Member Assciatins t cnsider putting frward a candidate fr this electin. Being a member f the Cmmissin is a rewarding experience and an pprtunity t be actively invlved in imprving the lives and experiences f the prfessinal players. 4 Excerpts frm Guidelines fr Cuncil / Executive Bard Prcedures (including Cmmittees and Cmmissins) 9. ATHLETES COMMISSION 9.1 An Athletes Cmmissin will be frmed cmprising six members elected by a players' bdy frmally recgnised by Cuncil fr the purpse f representing the players. N tw elected members f the Athletes Cmmissin shall cme frm the same BWF Member Assciatin. Any Badmintn player serving n the IOC Athletes Cmmissin r ther such Athletes' bdy can seek Cuncil's apprval t be included in the Athletes Cmmissin. Such a player cannt be appinted Chair f the Athletes Cmmissin. 9.2 T be eligible fr electin t the Athletes Cmmissin a persn must - be at least 18 years f age and must nt have been sanctined fr a dping ffence during his r her sprts career; and - be an active player, identified by presence n the Wrld Ranking List at the time f his r her electin, r - have participated in the latest Olympic Games Badmintn cmpetitin; r - such ther criteria as may be agreed with Cuncil prir t an electin. 9.3 The six Athletes Cmmissin Members are elected the fllwing way Three persns are elected fr a fur year term by the active players at the time f an electin befre the end f the secnd quarter in the year after the Summer Olympic Games Three ther persns elected fr a fur year term by the active players at the time f an electin befre the end f the secnd quarter in the year befre the Summer Olympic Games In each electin at least ne male and ne female Cmmissin Member must be elected The prcess fr electin must be apprved by the BWF President prir t the electin and shall fllw the fllwing prcess: The date, venue and prcess f the electin must be annunced by the Chair f the Athletes Cmmissin n later than twelve (12) weeks befre the electin. The annuncement f the date and venue will be sent t all Members, published n the BWF website and sent t players addresses (if available). Nminatins fr electin t the Athletes Cmmissin must be made in writing by an active player and sent directly t the Secretary General s as t reach the Federatin nt later than eight (8) weeks befre the electin date. Eligible nminatin will be sent t all Members, published n the BWF website and sent t players addresses (if available) latest six (6) weeks befre the electin date. 5 Vtes fr the electin may be cast in persn at the cmpetitin venue n the annunced date f the electins r by . Vting by shall cmmence ne calendar mnth befre the date f the electins at the cmpetitin venue and shall end at the clse f the plling statin n the electin day. Thse eligible t cast a vte must: Be at least 19 years f age n the day they cast their vte. Be in gd standing with their Member Assciatin. Nt serving a perid f ineligibility with the BWF. Be An active player as defined by: Being n the tp 200 f the first BWF Wrld Ranking List published after the date the electins is called; Or have cmpeted in the mst recent BWF Wrld Champinships r Olympic Games r the mst recent Wrld Team Champinships fr the Uber Cup, the Thmas Cup, r the Sudirman Cup. Guidelines - Time Cmmitment fr Athlete Cmmissin Members Ordinary Member Athlete Cmmissin meetings in persn: 2 times per year, 2-3 hurs in length (1 day, 2 nights and usually rganised at majr turnaments). Skype meetings: apprximately 10 per year (smetimes mre depending n the level f wrk). Respnding t s: apprximately 1 hur per week (maximum, usually less). Vice Chair Athlete Cmmissin meetings in persn: 2 times per year, 2-3 hurs in length (1 day, 2 nights and usually rganised at majr turnaments). Skype meetings: apprximately 10 per year (smetimes mre depending n the level f wrk). Writing up minutes f meetings: after every in persn meeting and Skype meeting. 6 Chair (als a BWF Cuncil Member) Attend BWF Cuncil meetings: 3 times per year, 5-6 days f meetings (usually rganised at majr turnaments). Reading f meeting papers ahead f BWF Cuncil meetings: 3 times per year, 5-6 hurs prir t each series f meetings. AC In persn meetings: 2 times per year, 2-3 hurs in length (1 day, 2 nights and usually rganised at majr turnaments). AC Skype meetings: apprximately 10 per year (smetimes mre depending n the level f wrk). Preparatin f agenda fr AC meetings: 1-2 hurs (maximum).
