In total, 15 RADO administrators (six from our region) participated actively and successfully. I was so impressed with the enthusiasm and diligence they showed in coping with their regional challenges that I could not help but remember the 2004 Asia/Oceania office opening in Tokyo 10 years ago. It was a year in which the first World Anti-Doping Code (2003 Code) was applied for the Olympic Games for the first time in Athens, the 1 st Asian intergovernmental meeting was held in Tokyo and the pilot project of the first RADO started in the Oceania region. In the last 10 years, we have encountered a number of challenges in our region but we have overcome these step-by-step in cooperation with our stakeholders. Of course, we still have a huge number of challenges to tackle in the fight against doping in sport under new circumstances, for example, with doping methods becoming ever more sophisticated, criminal organizations becoming more involved, supplement & food contamination issues becoming more common and so on. With the revised Code coming into effect in the New Year, now is the chance for us to enhance our capability and cooperate together to protect the rights of the clean athlete and uphold the integrity of sport. 2 ANTI-DOPING RULES REVISION The 2015 World Anti-Doping Code (Code) goes into effect on 1 January As a result, all Code Signatories are required to revise their anti-doping rules to ensure they remain in compliance with the Code. Since the beginning of the year, WADA has been working closely with its stakeholders throughout Asia/Oceania to assist with the revision of their rules and ensure they are ready for the implementation of the 2015 Code. National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs) and National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have been busy incorporating the necessary changes to their anti-doping rules. This includes member countries of Regional Anti- Doping Organizations (RADOs), who also have the option to adopt RADO rules and/or delegate some of their responsibilities (testing, education, etc.) to their respective RADO. We encourage those stakeholders who have yet to complete their rules revision process to do so as soon as possible. TOM MAY, Deputy Director NADO/RADO Relations Reference: Scoreboard (as of 30 NOV 2014) chart at last page REPORT: OUTCOMES OF 11TH ASIA/OCEANIA REGION INTERGOVERNMENTAL MINISTERIAL MEETING ON ANTI-DOPING IN SPORT Date: 2-3 June 2014 Location: Jeju Island, Republic of Korea Host: Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Republic of Korea Participation: Record number of 28 countries of Asia and Oceania, including the first attendance by Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste The Key Outcomes included: a) 2015 World Anti-Doping Code Challenges and Government Responsibilities was emphasized b) Contribution to WADA for 2015 by the Asian region was agreed with an increase of 3% supported c) The process of WADA Foundation Board Member Election for Asia 2014 was agreed d) The Report of the Finance Committee was presented and the new fund for Anti-Doping Research (initiated by the IOC President) introduced with a call for voluntary contributions e) RADO activities and the Olympic Council of Asia report was presented f) An update on the ratification of the UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport and the UNESCO Fund for Elimination of Doping in Sport was provided g) 2015 Meeting SAVE THE DATE! 3 REPORT: RESULT OF THE ASIAN REGION WADA FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBER ELECTIONS As agreed at the 11th Asia/Oceania Region Intergovernmental Ministerial Meeting on Anti-Doping in Sport, the election for two positions on the WADA Foundation Board for Asia took place between 1 July and 4 November 2014, with coordination and oversight by the WADA Asia/Oceania Regional Office. There were a record number of candidates, six (Bangladesh, China, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE) in total, with the final outcome being the re-election of both China and Saudi Arabia to represent the region each for a three-yearr term from 1 January 2015 to 31 December FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBERS FROM ASIA Newly-Elected Members in 2014 People s Republic of China Together for a clean sport with fair play MR.
