As ever the racing will be keenly competitive, showcasing the best talent from the Commonwealth countries and giving both established and new entrants the chance to wear their country s colours. The event has been scheduled for early August which is ideally timed to allow competitors from the Under 23 World Championships to compete following that event in late July. Our loch at Strathclyde Park sits in over 400 hectares of countryside in the valley of the River Clyde and offers a well protected rowing course which has proven to be fair regardless of wind direction. The venue is well connected by motorways and international airports and lies a stone s throw away from some of Scotland s most beautiful scenery. The historic capital Edinburgh is just under an hour s drive away to the East of the vibrant city of Glasgow, the UK s second largest shopping destination, just 15 minutes to the West. Competitors will be looked after by our organizing committee, an enthusiastic and well trained group of volunteers, committed to running a well organized and high level competition. 2 Mixed 8+ Podium Welland 2010 Boat Pool A boat pool will be established at Strathclyde Park. To allow us to source the correct boats it is important that nations wishing to rent should contact Scottish Rowing via crc@scottish-rowing.org.uk as soon as possible with their requirements. Team Composition It is confirmed the maximum team size is 12 Teams are restricted to a maximum of 6 males and 6 female athletes. For the Men s 4 and Women s 4x events two members of the crew must be lightweight athletes and all members of the crew must have competed in events earlier in the Championships. The Commonwealth Rowing Championships operates under FISA rules with the weight limit for lightweight competitors as follows: Individual Max weight Crew Average Weight Men 72.5 kg 70 kg Women 59 kg 57 kg Dates The Championships is taking place on the 9th and 10th of August following the U23 World Championships which is being held in Varese at the end of July. 4 Eligibility 1. Subject to Article 24(2), as a condition of entry to compete in the Commonwealth Championships, all athletes must be citizens or subjects of the Commonwealth Country that enters them and must: (a) not be currently under disqualification or suspension by the Federation, or their respective Affiliated Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) or International Federation (IF) or under the World Anti Doping Code; (b) comply with all applicable rules and regulations of the Federation, their respective IFs and the World Anti Doping Code as may be modified and applied by the Federation to ensure that the overriding principles of the Commonwealth Games are observed. 2. Subject to Article 24(3), where an athlete was born in a Commonwealth Country that has common citizenship/ passport with other Commonwealth Countries, the athlete may initially represent either the athlete's Commonwealth Country of birth; or the Commonwealth Country of birth of his or her father or mother that shares the same citizenship/passport. 3. After having represented one Commonwealth Country at the Commonwealth Games, an athlete may not represent another Commonwealth Country unless he or she receives the approval of the Federation, the relevant IF and the affiliated CGAs of the two Commonwealth Countries concerned. Applications under this article must be submitted to the Executive Board at least 12 months prior to the commencement of the Games. 4. It is the responsibility of all affiliated CGAs to ensure that their athletes are fully aware of and comply with the eligibility rules of the Federation. 5. The Executive Board will have the power to waive the provisions of Articles 24 (1-3) in its discretion. In relation to this clause, the CGF Executive Board at its meeting in August 2004 gave the following guidelines: If an athlete has previously represented a country at a Commonwealth Games they may continue to represent that country at future Games. Athletes wishing to compete for a country on the basis of residency they must show they have resided in that country for five years immediately prior to those Games. Further guidelines were given in August 2005 as follows: Athlete Eligibility - Athlete Dispensation Criteria The General Assembly noted the Executive Board s decision that in accordance with Article 24 (5) dispensations would be granted to athletes where common passports exist in that an athlete may represent the new country subject to having fulfilled all the requirements of the relevant International Federation.

5 Visas Full information about Visas to come to the UK is available on the United Kingdom Border Agency website You do not need a Visa to come to the UK if you hold a valid passport from a country in the European Economic Area (which includes all the European Union countries plus Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein) or Switzerland. The countries whose nationals need Visas are listed on the UKBA site If you need to apply for a Sports Visitor Visa you will be asked to provide an invitation to take part in the Commonwealth Rowing Championships from British Rowing/Scottish Rowing. The UK Border Agency (UKBA) recommends that you apply well in advance (they advise at least two months in advance) to ensure that there is sufficient time to process your Visa application. If you require an invitation letter from British Rowing/Scottish Rowing in order to attend the Championships please your request including full name(s), date(s) of birth and passport number(s) to: crc@scottish-rowing.org.uk Strathclyde Park Rowing Course Facilities Strathclyde Park has hosted many International regattas including the 1986 Commonwealth Games Regatta, the 1996 FISA World Rowing Championships and the 2007 FISA World Under 23 Rowing Championships. It has the following facilities: 8 lane Albano Buoyed course currently restricted to 1500m for racing. Minimum 5m depth Tarred cycle path around the perimeter of the loch Timing system with Interval Timing Capability Fair racing in all rowing conditions Large grassed spectator areas The park covers some 4 km², centred on the artificial Strathclyde Loch. It is located next to the River Clyde between Hamilton and Motherwell, easily accessible from Glasgow on the M74.

Strathclyde Country Park is located in Motherwell just off the M74 motorway. It is easily accessible from Glasgow and Edinburgh International Airports. Glasgow International Airport is located 30 minutes away from Strathclyde Park. Frequent direct services are available to major hubs, such as Dubai, Copenhagen and Amsterdam, as well as New York and Toronto. It has an average of 43 flights from London every day. Edinburgh International Airport is located just 45 minutes drive from Strathclyde Park and serves over 100 destinations including New York, Toronto, Amsterdam, Brussels, Geneva, Paris, Madrid and Stockholm. There are over 100 flights from London Airports every day and numerous flights to other major cities in the UK including Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol.
