1 MBIÈRE DESIGN THE BEER CONTAINER AND OUTER APPEARANCE CONCEPTION CONTEST Registration Deadline: August 19 th, 2013 Container s Delivery Deadline: September 2 nd, 2013 As part of the festival s 4 th edition, the Mondial de la bière of Mulhouse Europe presents the first edition in France of the professional MBeer Design contest with an international jury. Nancy Rossi designed the competition in collaboration with the Montreal Mondial de la bière s team. This competition will take place on September 12 th - 13 th, 2013 as a part of the festival. This competition is open to breweries from here and abroad.

3 INTRODUCTION The Mondial de la bière s MBeer Design Contest is a competition whose mission is to honor the esthetical investment of today s brewery in the beer container and the design. The recognition of winning breweries will be done through the awarding of medals on September 14 th, CATEGORIES Each container can be registered IN ONLY ONE category: 1. Container and Nature. This category includes all images related to nature: man, woman, sea, sky, mountains, etc. 2. Container and Art. This category includes all images related to art in all its expressions and styles: graphic art, music, baroque, classic, rococo, etc. 3. Container and History. This category includes all images related to history, mythology and specific regional history. In case of doubts about your choice of category, please contact us for help at mbieredesign@gmail.com The Mondial de la bière of Montreal will award to the breweries 3 medals in each of the 3 categories: One Gold medal One Silver medal One Bronze medal The container with the highest score, all categories combined will win: The MBeer Design platinum medal. The artists/ designers will received a certificate Gold, Silver or Bronze and Platinum. ESTABLISHMENT OF CATEGORIES Beers will be sorted according to the category in which they have been registered. If the beer does not correspond to the category s criteria, the judges will eliminate it from the competition. 2

4 EVALUATION Each container in competition is submitted to a pre-selection period undertaken by four international judges from the brewing and/or graphic design industry. Each container chosen will be re-evaluated in the second half of the contest. Each judge will use the evaluation form provided by the Mondial de la bière. You will find the evaluation form at the end of this document. THE JURY Judging sessions will be held on September 12 th and 13 th, The international jury will count 4 individuals, as well as one substitute judge that will be standing by in case of any last minute cancelation or unexpected occurrence. Any judge affiliated with the design of a particular container will not be allowed to vote about said container(s). The complete list of judges will be revealed at a later date. PRESIDENT OF THE JURY The President of the jury will be chosen by the Mondial de la bière s team. He/She will be the jury s representative and spokesperson. He/She will also be in charge of the medal awarding and will be called upon to choose a final jury, if necessary, in case of a tie or any other litigation. The final jury will count a minimum of three judges, including the President. JUDGING PROCEDURES 1. Containers are sorted by category and displayed on tables. Each container will have an identification number. 2. Judges will pre-select containers that will have caught their attention. This first evaluation will be conducted on an individual basis. 3. Each judge will evaluate, using the evaluation form provided by the Mondial de la bière, each container that will have made it to the second level of the contest. 4. If need be, a group discussion will take place after the second avaluation, to determine the winners in each category. 3

5 ELIGIBILITY CONTAINER AND OUTER APPEARANCE S DESIGN INCLUDES: container; (glass bottles, cans, aluminum bottles) seal; label; counter-label; container/label s embossing; container s neck; pendant; * Non exhaustive In brief, the container or box, made of glass or metal, the packaging, either pack, box or cardboard tube, label decoration or tin box. Each brewery can present an unlimited number of different containers. Only brewers that own the brand or their agent (with a signed authorization by the owner) can register containers in the contest. All evaluations will be held at the same time in a predetermined area. All necessary dispositions will be taken to favor ideal and objective evaluation conditions. CONTAINER ELIGIBILITY Containers must be empty and uncapped. Brewers interested in participating in the second edition of the MBeer Design Contest, have to register each container in only one category mentioned on page 2. Any container, of any format, sold in grocery stores, convenience stores, beer outlets, the SAQ or on the local and international markets are allowed to participate in the contest. Containers that do not respect the category s criteria will not be admitted in the competition, the brewer cannot claim the container nor the refund of registration fees. REGISTRATION TO THE CONTEST IS OPEN TO ALL BREWERIES, INCLUDING THOSE WHO WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE MONDIAL DE LA BIÈRE The jury will make their pre-selection on September 12 th, Each judge will choose five containers from each category. The jury will evaluate the pre-selected containers on May 28 th, and/or May 29 th. The judges will evaluate only containers that will have been selected in the first half of the contest., using the evaluation form provided by the Mondial de la bière. Contest winners will receive a medal and certificate. The container with the highest score, all categories combined, will win the MBeer Design platinum medal. The list of registered containers is confidential and will not be revealed. The list of winning breweries will be sent to the medias, more specifically the beer industry s specialized media, follwing the closing ceremonies of the contest. 4

6 TRANSPORTATION CONTAINERS MUST BE SENT EMPTY AND UNCAPPED. For each container in competition, the brewer has to provide the following items, on or before Friday, September 2 nd, 2013: A container identical to those sold on the market, EMPTY AND UNCAPPED. A copy of the registration form, one per registered container, completed and signed by the person in charge of the registration. IMPORTANT: It is forbidden to send full containers with alcoholic content by mail or carrier. If you do not respect this condition, please note that your container(s) WILL PROBABLY NOT ARRIVE TO DESTINATION and that WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ITS RECEPTION. Each document has to be completed in PRINT LETTERS and in ink. Please, send the document(s) along with the container(s). The administration will send a confirmation for the reception of the container(s) and document(s). The contest s administration cannot be held accountable for any delays, loss or damages occurred during delivery. Expedition and transport fees are to be paid by the participant. Breweries that do not respect these rules will be excluded from the competition and registration fees will not be refunded nor will the containers be re-expedited. Containers sent at the expense of the recipient (C.O.D.) will not be accepted nor returned to the sender. Participation to the contest is open to all and on a voluntary basis. Contest participants must pay registration fees (according to the number of containers). Registration fees cover administration fees and expenses for broadcasting of results in specialized media. Following the award ceremony, participants are authorized to use the MBière Design Contest s logo on their products. The year the prize was won has to be mentioned. 5
