The channels of Western sports entering to China
1 The import of Western sport The Western sports activities including: Gymnastics, track and field, swimming, tennis, baseball, basketball, soccer, tabletennis, volleyball and so on that became the foundation of Olympic sports developed in China.
2 The Olympics developed in modern China 2 1 Initial newspaper report on Olympic Games In July 1900, there was a report about the Second Olympic Games held in Paris titling France and Spectators under the topic of Current Affairs Abstract featured in Chinese and Western Church Newspaper. This is the first report about the Olympic Games by Chinese media.
2 The Olympics developed in modern China 2 2 The idea of Chinese participation in the Olympic Games brought forward Chang Po-Ling, Director of the Nan Kai Middle School in Tientsin, gave an address speech in the ceremony of Fifth Annual Athletic Contest during prize and reward ceremony, held on Oct. 24, He suggested that we ought no longer to wait for Chinese representing the Olympic Games. This was the first initiative to bring forward the participation of China in the Olympic Games as we know from historic record.
2 The Olympics developed in modern China Prof.C.H.Robertson established three slogans to encourage the Chinese athletes to participating in the Olympics in his report that was sent to the headquarters in America on September 30th, 1908: When will China win a place at the Olympic Games? When will China be able to send a winning team? When will China be able to invite the Alternation Olympic Games to come to China?
Robertson was an engineering professor of Purdue university. He came to China in 1902 and became the associate secretary of Young Men s Christian Association in Tientsin.

2 The Olympics developed in modern China In the Week Newspapers of the Chinese edition of Tientsin Young Men Christian Assoc. in 1908: The writer hoped the quadrennial Olympic Games held in Athens, the capital of Greece, to be held in the capital of any country every two years and and expected the participation of Chinese youths in the Olympic Games one day.
2 the Olympics developed in China
2 The Olympics developed in modern China 2 3 Holding the National Games modeled the Olympic Games China held the first National Games in 1910 and continued to hold every 4 year until The National Game was seen as important practice for participating in the Olympics in China.

3. The Olympic Movement and new China since The Chinese dilemma For the political reason, Taiwan was separated from the mainland China in The IOC confirmed both sides simultaneously. The P.R. China withdrew from the IOC in 1958, starting the history of no mainland Chinese athletes in the world of Olympics over 20 years. Both China and the world did their best to solve this problem. The Ping-pong diplomacy opened P.R. China the door to the world.
3, The Olympic movement and new China since China rejoined the Olympic Movement In 1979 the IOC found a compromised solution that would enable both sides to take part in the Olympic Games. The P.R. China used the national flag and anthem and Taiwan changed to use the Chinese Taipei Olympic logo. This diplomatic success in unique of its kind gave an example to the world to solve similar problems.
IOC restored China s legitimate seat in The photo shows the celebration. Chinese delegation arrived at Nagoya, Japan, to attend the IOC meeting.
3, The Olympic Movement and new China since Sending the winning team to take part in the Olympic Games Chinese athletes had taken part in the Summer Olympic Games 6 times from 1984 to They came fourth in 1984 and in 1992 and third in medal table in The historic success came in Athens Games in 2004 coming second after the USA.

3, The Olympic Movement and new China since Sending the winning team to take part in the Olympic Games Chinese athletes had taken part in Winter Olympic Games 8 times from 1980 to The first medal was obtained in 1992 and the gold medal came in 2002.

3, The Olympic Movement and new China since Sending the winning team to take part in the Olympic Games Chinese athletes had taken part in Paralympic Games 6 times from 1984 to Chinese Paralympic team became first in the last Paralympic Games in Athens 2004.

3, The Olympic Movement and new China since Bidding for the Olympic Games China lost the opportunity in the first bid for 2000 Olympic Games in 1993 and succeeded in gaining the right to hold the 2008 Olympic Games. A century s dream for hosting the Olympics came true.
