1 Bulletin 1 UNITED WORLD GAMES BOWLING Brunswick Bowling Center Hernals 28 June - 1 July 2007 in Vienna, Austria It is a great pleasure for the Organizing Committee of the United World Games (UWG) to present the first Youth Bowling Championships 2007 Bulletin no. 1 for all WTBA member federations. The championships will be conducted in Brunswick Bowling Center Hernals (Posthalle), Vienna, in the period of 28 june - 1 july The 32 lanes Brunswick center is well known for its hosting of Austrian tournaments and also International tournaments like European Seniors Championships or the latest European Corporative Championships (25 28 May 2006). The Centre was totally refurbished in sommer 2006 and it is now a modern US Play! The Bulletin 2 is scheduled to be released during the month of May. Hereafter all details related to the championships, also including confirmation of hotel room reservations and arrival/departure information will be available at the UWG 2007 website -, for which reason no Bulletin 3 will be prepared. At this moment the most important information we need from you, is a filled in Form A, which confirms your participation and the number of players from your federation and also Form B, which is your reservation of hotel rooms during the UWG Please pay attention to the fact that the deadline of form A is Wednesday 2 May 2007, which is the last possible day to announce participation of players (and the exact number of players) from your federation. Only federations meeting the deadline for submitting Form A can send players to the UWG It is very important, to be quick with the applications, because the total number of players this year is fixed with 150 (30 teams)! This can increase next year, but for 2007 we have no other possibilty because of the time limits. In this bulletin you will find the following content: 1. Preliminary schedule 2. Format 3. 2 1. Preliminary schedule (150) A final issue of the schedule will be prepared when the exact number of players is known, which will be after the deadline of submitting Form A (2 nd May 2007). 3 2. Format The Bowling Championships will be divided into 2 separate events. This will be 5-Teams and Singles, both played with handicaps. The Singles will also be devided in girls and boys and there again in age groups (11-14 years and years). Limit for age group : players have to be born after 1 july 1993 to participate in this group Limit for age group : players have to be born after 1 july 1989 to participate in this group 5-Team Event : The 5 players forming a team will be drawn on Thursday 28 th June at 18:00 in the Bowling Centre (see time schedule). The members of a team can come from differnet countries, can have different ages and of course different averages. Therefore we have got a handicap system, which is based on the offical averages filled in by the association in Form E. If an average is not known or not filled in, the player will be set in group A. Group A B C D E Average 190 and over 189,9 to ,9 to ,9 to ,9 and below Handicap 0 5 per game 10 per game 15 per game 20 per game The 5-Teams play 4 times 3 games, where lanes will be changed after every game. There the team on the left lane changes 10 lanes to the left and the team on the right lane changes 10 lanes to the right. So the whole center will be played and you meet different teams after each game. depending on the total number of participating teams, the event is preliminary scheduled for maximum 3 days. After the last game the winning teams will be honered. PLEASE NOTE that we can only accept 150 starters because of the size of the center and the time. Therefore all registrations will be be handled by the first come first serve method. So please send the form A as quick as possible to secure your participation!!! Singles Event : The 30 girls and boys with the highest results of each age group out of the Team Event (including handicap) will be qualified for the Singles Event. Pinfall will be carried forward. There another series of 6 games will be played. Changing lanes will be the same like in the Team Event. After this 6 games the 4 girls and boys with the highest total results including handicap will play astepladder final. Stepladder Finals : Player seed 4 th place against player seeded 3 rd play 1 game. Winner plays another game against player seeded 2 nd. The winner plays another game against player seeded 1 st place after the Singles Event. After tis 4 games the winner of each age group and sex is defined. All the finals will be played at the same time simultaneously, but each group has to wait untill all groups have played 1 game. Then the next player of each group can come to the lane. This is not to disturb the other players still competing. After the Stepladder Final the Victory Ceremony will finish the Championships. Official hotels and hostels The Hotel Pyramide is the residence of the Organizing Committee and also the Opening Ceremony as well as all other facilities besides the Championships will take place over there. Please don t forget to return Form B until the latest deadline (2 nd May 2007) or let us know if you will organize your accommodation by yourself. 6 5. Additional informations : When the UWG are finished, the European Men Championships are starting in Vienna. If there is an interest, the players can stay longer, to watch the best male bowlers of Europe competing for the medals. The EMC takes place in Plus Bowling Center, which is very close to the Brunswick Center and will last from 30. June to 10. July You can find more information The players from the United States will be accompanied by Team USA Coach Jeri Edwards. She will also work with them and prepare them for the games and all European Youth players may ask her their questions during the UWG. This might be a great experience for the youngsters.
