8 Message from the President It has been another busy year for the Association being the transition period that occurred with the formalization of the new Management Committee (MC) for Singapore Gymnastics. We had some new board members who came on board and brought along their own expertise, experience to serve the fraternity. Following the success our team has achieved in SEA Games 2015, we nominated some of these gymnasts and coaches for the Singapore Sports Awards 2016 and were gratified that our WAG and RG team has been given the Meritorius Award (Event). Our RG Coach Zhu Xiaoping has also received a Special Award for Fortitude for her selfless dedication to the sport in spite of her health condition. A key initiative which we have instituted is to re-introduced Sub-Committees (SC) for the various disciplines. These sub-committees, chaired by a chairperson/head appointed by the MC, consist of a group of technical/non-technical volunteers from the fraternity. I am pleased to see these committee members actively putting forth their proposed plans and directions to the MC for further discussion and endorsement. This is very important as we develop a new Multi-Year Sports Plan to escalate the sport to the next level. Apart from the competitive endeavours, we had two very special groups of participants in GymFest They were Deerland Pre-School by Bishan North CCC and Everland Childcare & Development Centre. This has been made possible through our efforts to outreach to childcare centres via the Early Childhood Development Agency. We believed that every child is an artist, with imagination and the artistic instinct. We were heartened to hear that their participation has brought them positive experiences and helped developed their self-motivation and self-confidence. An advisory panel comprising of selected ex-sg Presidents and MC members was also set up to advise the MC on the directions and strategies that will benefit the gymanstics fraternity in Singapore. We are also in the process of formulating a National Proficiency Awards Programme aimed at growing our talent pipeline. The tireless efforts of our advisors, board members, secretariat, athletes, coaches, judges, and volunteers have given us the support as we work towards realising our goals and objectives. Lastly, we must also acknowledge and thank Sport Singapore for their support and continued belief in our sport. We remain committed to serving and moving forward together with all of you. Yours Respectfully, Choy Kah Kin 8

9 Marketing Report Electronic & Social Media Platforms Singapore Gymnastics s website, electronic communications and social media all continued to play a pivotal role in promoting the sport to the fraternity and keeping our members updated on the events and activities that we are involved in. As of now, our Facebook page comprised of over 2750 fans connected to us. Our primary social media objective remains clear, which is to increase awareness of our gymnasts experiences regularly with their friends, family and supporters through these media platforms so that they feel being part of our team and in turn encourage many others to join. Our weekly SG Posts continue to provide news updates to our mailing list subsribers as an alternative avenue to keep themselves abreast of what is happening in SG, especially for those who may not be able to visit our website regularly due to work commitments. Sponsorships Singapore Gymnastics seeks donations and sponsorships from corporations and individuals to fund our various programmes and support needy gymnasts. Our initiatives range from ensuring our events run at positive margins to providing various forms of subsidies to gymnasts under the Financial Assistance Scheme so as to esnure equal opportunities for all. Our corporate sponsors have seen their brands being strengthened through their active involvement in such cause or social responsibility programmes. For the financial year ending 31 March 2016, total sponsorship in cash received by Singapore Gymnastics amounted to $7,000 while total sponsorship in kind amounted to $10,400. The cash portion came mainly from Singapore Press Holdings Foundation Ltd. For Singapore Open Gymmnastics Campionships 2015, the total sponsorship inkind primarily came from the 20 hotel room nights sponsorship from AQueens Hotels & Resorts Pte. Ltd. Ticketing Total adult and concessionary ticket sales for GymFest 2015 increased 2.4% and 22.9% respectively over GymFest This shows that the event is gaining popularity amongst the younger viewers. Singapore Gymnastics ticketing strategy is based on affordable price and accessibility to as many people as possible. The ticket prices range from $5 to $10. Tickets purchased online are priced slightly cheaper than tickets purchased at the door. Merchandise Singapore Gymnastics continues to offer a range of gift items such as t-shirts, key chains, towels, water-bottles, notebooks, and pens for sale via the website and at 9

10 events. In FY2015, total sales of Singapore Gymnastics merchandise for the 3 events amounted to $1, Moving forward, Singapore Gymnastics aims to bring in more funds by out-reaching to more corporate partners through sponsorships tie-up (non-traditional form of marketing). Sponsorships have proven to be an effective method of heightening sponsors visibility in their community and help to enhance their public profile. 18 High Performance Men s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Fresh from podium success at SEA Games 2015, the men s team participated in the Senior Asian Championships held in Hiroshima. Injuries however hampered their performance at the competition, with most opting to sit out of the All-around to focus on individual events. At the 2015 World Championships, Gabriel Gan and Timothy Tay attempted to gain entry to 2016 Olympic Test Event. Gabriel Gan achieved a rank of 147 th with an IAA , whilst Timothy Tay finished 169 th with IAA , with the qualifying score at ; both did not qualify for the 2016 Olympic Test Event. Our Juniors comprising of Lincoln Forest Liqht Man, Zac Liew, Kaeson Lim, Robin Sim and Eli Low participated at the 58 th Regional-Kansai University Championships held in Hyogo. For most of the juniors, this was their first competition overseas, and they took home invaluable experience. Women s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) The World Championships 2015 held in Glasgow was the selection for 2016 Olympic Test Event, and Singapore fielded Nadine Joy Nathan, Janessa Dai and Ashly Lau. Despite our efforts, we were 0.8 points short of the score to qualify for the Test Event, with Nadine Nathan achieving and ranked 108 th. Ashly Lau ranked 123 rd while Janessa Dai ranked 137 th. The Pacific Rim Championships in Richmond saw the debut of 2 new Seniors, Tan Sze En and Colette Chan. Tan Sze En ranked 11 th All-Around with a score of , a respectable achievement in a tough competition that also saw world champions from the USA, and top athletes from Canada and Australia. Singapore Team came in 7 th out of 10 teams. The women s team continues to build on their experience in preparation for better performance on the world stage. For the third year running, our women gymnasts have clinched the prestigious spexscholarship, which provides support for training & competition of high-achieving elite athletes. This year, Nadine Joy Nathan was awarded this scholarship. Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) At the Zhongling Cup held in Beijing, 8 Juniors participated including Yeo Siew Lyn, Jael Chew, Phebe Lau, Avryl Tan, Cheryl Lee, Alicia Lim, Tammy Ng and Leah Chew. Yeo Siew Lyn emerged champion in the Rope, Hoop, Ball, and Clubs events. Consolidating their experience, the junior athletes competed alongside athletes from Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong to achieve good results at the Singapore Open Gymnastics Championships At the first international competition in 2016, our Seniors Yeo Siew Lyn, Edlyn Ho, and our Juniors Michele Lau, Phebe Lau, Cheryl Lee and Aiko Tan showcased their new routines at the Aphrodite Cup held in Kalamata. Coach Natalia Rybak, who joined 18

19 the team in late 2015, injected these athletes routines with refreshingly different choreographies. Our juniors, represented by Michele Lau, Avryl Tan and Aiko Tan, then went on to compete at the Asian Junior Championships held in Astana. Moving forward, RG prepares to field athletes in both Individual and Group events regularly, to widen opportunities for more athletes, and to improve Singapore s RG standing in the world.
