1 Present practice or future plans of governments to award prize money to some European countries (Survey made in March 2012, based on answers sent on a voluntary basis from the following countries) Austria: There is no prize money in Austria on Federal level and from federal umbrella organizations. Although there are some possible payments by Austrian provinces (i.e.: Bundesländer) but it varies and depends on the province. Belgium: The Flemish Government does not give prize money to their / medalists. It comes under the National Committee. Denmark: The Danish Government does not pay any prize money for their sportmen. The prize money is paid by Team Danmark, which is the Danish Elitesport organisation. Beijing 1st nd rd Estonia: 1st nd rd Prize money for medalists in Prize money for London

2 Note: Games, and special Games, Deaf World Games athletes have been rewarded with the medal positions up to EUR. Coaches get 50% of the amount of sportmen. Finland: They give prize money and grants to their medalists only after years gaining the medals. They are also preparing a system of pensions for elder olympic medalists. France: 1st not yet determined not yet determined 2nd not yet determined not yet determined 3rd not yet determined not yet determined Note:the amounts concerning the London s are still to be established (by a financial law) Germany: As a general rule, the Federal Ministry of the Interior does not provide funding for individual athletes. For this reason, no prize money is paid by the Ministry. However, the German Foundation for the Promotion of Sports (Deutsche Sporthilfe) is a non-profit private association which grants German top athletes prize money and other types of assistance. It is funded from donations, revenues from events and national lotteries, and postage stamps dedicated to sport aspects. The foundation pays performance bonuses for achievements in disciplines made at the highest-level competition in a given season. The following prize money is paid for achievements during the Games: Gold medal 15,000 euro Silver medal 10,000 euro Bronze medal 7,500 euro 4th place 4,000 euro 5th place 3,000 euro 6th place 2,500 euro 7th place 2,000 euro 8th place 1,500 euro If an athlete wins several medals, 50% of the amounts stated above are generally paid for the second and third medal. Athletes who have not won a medal but achieved a fourth- to eighth-place finish in several competitions are paid for the best result. Since the s in Athens in 2004, prize money is also paid for medals won during the s. At present, the sum of 4,500 euro is paid for a gold medal, 3,000 euro for a silver medal and 1,500 euro for a bronze medal.
