1 Facts Take Shape part 1 Did You Know? A dodecahedron is a three-dimensional figure with twelve faces. A Information in The World Almanac for Kids comes in many different shapes and forms, including lists, tables, and graphs. A list is a column of facts recorded in order. A table lets you read across several columns of information. A graph or chart shows the relationship between facts. Look at the list of Kids Choice Award winners on page 191 of The World Almanac for Kids. Then answer these questions. 1 What music group won the Kids Choice Award for Music Group? 2 Who hosted the 2009 Kids Choice Awards? Now turn to page 23. Use the table of Animal Words to answer the following questions. 3 What baby animal is called a joey? 4 How many female animals on this page are called a doe? 5 Name three animal babies called kits. Finally, look at the pie chart Elements in Earth s Crust on page What percentage of the Earth s crust is silicon? 7 What element is found most often? 8 Can you name all of the elements that make up 17% of the chart? Find the Nations section of The World Almanac for Kids. 4 Going Global part 2 make connections So far, you ve been using the Nations section of your almanac to find information about countries of the world, but global facts are scattered throughout The World Almanac for Kids. Use the Index to find the answers to these questions. The boldfaced words should guide you to the answers. 5 State Stats part 1 Did You Know? Each of the 50 states has its own flower, tree, flag most even have nicknames. The state section of The World Almanac for Kids is one of its most popular and useful features. Wouldn t your daily life be different if you lived in Texas versus New York or Alaska? Choose a state you d like to visit and learn more about it. Write the page number of the correct answer in the parentheses, the state s name on the line, and the postal abbreviation in the blanks. The circled letters will answer the riddles. Answering the riddles first will give you clues to the state abbreviations, but only if you get them right!
