In 2017 alone Skills Canada BC reached over 32,500 students, career educators, career planners, recruiters, educators and industry experts. These numbers are important to note as it is estimated that there will be a shortage of approximately 1 million skilled trade and technology workers in Canada by With the current demand for skilled workers far outweighing supply, potential skilled labor shortages could affect us all. 5 Skills Canada BC 2018 Provincial Competition April 18, 2018 Skills Canada BC s 2018 Provincial Competition will be held on April 18, 2018 at the Tradex, in Abbotsford, BC. More than 600 competitors in 58 competition areas will compete in fields as diverse as: aerospace, automotive, 3D Animation, baking, welding, robotics -- and many more! Students Grades 6 12 as well as Post-Secondary students will compete amid a backdrop of more than 5,000 middle and high school students, career educators, industry leaders, technical experts, labour organizations and government who attend this annual event. Skills Canada BC provides opportunities for thousands of students to watch the competitors in action, participate in a Try-a-Trade activity, visit the Pathways to Careers Showcase or participate in the Women in Trades and Technology Conference that will run concurrent to the provincial competition. These great activities provide unparalleled opportunities for sponsors to get front and centre with students, career educators and parents. 6 Skills Canada BC s In-School INSPIRE Program Skills Canada BC will continue to deliver Inspire its groundbreaking classroom program to thousands of British Columbian students, Grade 6 10, in In 2017 Skills Canada BC introduced the Inspire program to more than 18,000 students in 21 school districts. In 2018, the Inspire Program will be expanded into even more classrooms, in more communities, province-wide. Inspire s one-hour classroom workshop format provides an excellent first step for students to explore skilled trades and technology careers through fun and thoughtprovoking hands-on activities. Skills Canada BC s Inspire program facilitates classroom discussions, through the use of compelling video content and encourages students to explore careers in the trades and technology sectors they may never otherwise consider. Inspire will continue to be delivered throughout 2018 to an ever-expanding roster of schools, classrooms, students and communities. Skills Canada BC s Inspire program provides unprecedented potential for your organization to get front and centre with K-12 students, teachers and career educators.
