3 Dear Members, Media, and Fans, Letter from the USBSF The U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation wants to welcome you to Lake Placid. We are excited to have the 2009 World Championships here at our home track. The U.S. bobsled and skeleton teams recently won four medals on the track in Whistler, Canada. This is especially exciting as we look toward the 2010 Olympics at that same track. We hope to continue our success from the Whistler track to the World Championships here in Lake Placid and eventually to the 2010 Olympics. In the Media Guide you will find information on the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, U.S. coaches, competing U.S. athletes, results in World Cup, and results in past World Championships. A track map is located on the back page of the cover. When reading the result charts, use the key located on the bottom of this page to interpret any abbreviations. We hope you find the media guide useful. Once again, welcome and enjoy the 2009 World Championships! Sincerely, The U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Editorial: Adelle Anderson, Amanda Bird, Sara Quillen Photography: Todd Bissonette, Amanda Bird, Charlie Booker Cover Design and Layout: Sara Quillen Key for abbreviations AC America's Cup EC Europa Cup IC Intercontinental Cup NCH National Championship World Cup H World Championship Jr Junior st. standing Brk brakeman for driver ( ) Dr driver Push Athlete for driver ( ) 3

87 Katie Uhlaender Height: 5'3'' Weight: 141 Birth date: July 17, 1984 Birthplace: Vail, Colorado Home: Breckenridge, Colorado Katie Uhlaender began the sport of skeleton in 2002, quickly climbing national rank by winning both the National and Junior National Championships in her first season. Uhlaender made the Winter Olympic Team in 2006 and slid to a sixth place finish in Torino, Italy. She dominated the World Cup tour during the season, winning five gold medals and claiming the overall World Cup crown. In the season, Uhlaender once again placed first in the World Cup standings. She placed second in the 2008 World Championships. ABOUT ME: Uhlaender loves to ski, snowboard, kite board and craves speed, which is one of the reasons she began skeleton. She "loves the feeling of getting power off the start block." Uhlaender also enjoys photography, writing, film, and her favorite book is "The Fountainhead." After her sliding career, Katie would like to become a producer or writer so that she can combine her "writing and photographic skills in a creative way." Uhlaender is currently enrolled at Colorado Mountain College as a science major. Photo by Amanda Bird 87
