2 ONE CLEAR MESSAGE #BEACTIVE The 2016 European Week of brings together 31 national Weeks across Europe and over 35 European partners from the sport movement to raise awareness and promote sport and physical activity. Through exciting activities and events across countries, the Week supports one clear aim to bring Europeans together and get them moving improving their mental and physical well-being, fostering social cohesion and strengthening communities. Our message this year is loud and clear, aimed at people of all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels to #BeActive! 01

4 OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE 2016 EUROPEAN WEEK OF SPORT Location: Košice, Slovakia Date: Saturday 10 September 2016 Time: TBC The official opening of the 2016 European Week of in Košice will be web-streamed to allow all interested audiences to participate in the events. The ceremony will feature high-level speakers and delegates from the world of politics and sport, as well as a group retro show, entitled Spartakiada 2016, with around 1000 participants. A press conference will be held at Košice city hall. Other side activities will involve a retro cycling fest and a #BeActive run to promote the International Peace Marathon. 03

5 2016 EUROPEAN WEEK OF SPORT FLAGSHIP EVENT Location: The Square, Brussels Date: Thursday 15 September 2016 Time: TBC Theme: Good Governance The morning of the Flagship Event will feature interactive public sessions andan exhibition of projects on the focus themes, which will remain on display throughout the day. To prepare the main conference of the Flagship Event, workshops linked to good governance will be held in the afternoon. They will focus on: gender equality in sport grassroots sport and good governance major sport events The conference on Good Governance in will take place from to 19.00, followed by a reception and the 2016 #BeActive Awards ceremony. 04

6 The activities and events calendar will map all key activities and events by national weeks and European Partners. The document will illustrate the theme, date, location, organisation, and a short description of the event, but also provide contact details to facilitate coordination among national weeks and official partners.the activities and events calendar will be updated throughout the summer period. Submissions can be sent to EWOS-info@bm.com in two rounds: until 17 June and 15 July? ANIMATION The animation will help to promote the 2016 European Week of and will be distributed to the public through a dedicated broadcasting plan with Eurosport as well as via social media channels. The animation can also be used by all national weeks and European partners. VISUAL IDENTITY The visual identity will follow that of the 2015 European Week of. A specific photo-shoot will be organised around the different focus themes. In addition, a new logo for national weeks and European partners will help to ensure consistency across national weeks and official partners when referring to the 2016 European Week of. AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME The 2016 European Week of Ambassador Programme will be revamped in order to achieve an even better added value from the ambassadors within the communications campaign. The 2016 European Week of will feature four EU-wide ambassadors and will be supported by those at national level. KEY MESSAGES The key messages of the 2016 Week are translated into all official EU languages and made available as a pdf document on the website. As the objective of the 2016 European Week of remains the same as last year, the core messages per focus theme are unchanged. 05

7 HANDBOOK The communications handbook is a one stop shop containing all the key information and materials on the European Week of. The handbook is a responsive (ie with clickable links) pdf document and will be disseminated in early July. The communications handbook will also be available on the website. SOCIAL MEDIA AND DIGITAL Due to the impressive impact of social media activities last year, the 2016 European Week of will strengthen and encourage the use of social media as one of the main pillars of the communications campaign. Social media posts will highlight messages from ambassadors, national weeks and official partners. PHOTO COMPETITION The photo competition will be based on a simple challenge that invites people of all ages to commit to sport and/or physical activity during August and September. The competition will be launched on social media on Friday 24 June and close on Friday 26 August. The winners will be announced during the 2016 European Week of. #BEACTIVE AWARDS The winners of the 2016 European Week of #BeActive Awards will be announced for the following categories linked to the focus themes: active education award active workplace award active motivator award Nominations will open 10 June and close on 22 July. MEDIA AND OUTREACH A tailored media kit will be available in English via (and the website) to help national weeks and official partners to promote activities among journalists and media outlets. In addition, tailored editorials linked to the focus themes will be drafted to allow for country specific media outreach by national weeks and partners in cooperation with the European Commission. A press release template will be also provided for the official opening of the week and the 2016 #BeActive Award. 06
