3 CONTENTS MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT 3 Message from the President 4 Media Guidelines 5 Event Timetable 21 Event-By-Event Preview 50 Medal Tables & Placings 51 Additional Information 54 Athlete Profiles 92 Classifications The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park captured the imagination of the world in 2012 when able-bodied and para-athletes descended on London, Great Britain, for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In 2017, the spirit of competition returns to the renowned venue for the World Para-Athletics Championships and the IAAF World Championships and with great expectation I look forward to witnessing and encouraging the feats of Team Australia. The para-athletics contingent competing on July is 37-strong and features Rio 2016 Paralympic Games gold medallists Brayden Davidson, Scott Reardon and James Turner and reigning world champions from Doha 2015, Todd Hodgetts, Angela Ballard, Madison de Rozario and Isis Holt. Four athletes - Cameron Crombie, Martin Jackson, Daniel Kirk and Sarah Edmiston will don the green and gold for the first time and I congratulate them on their achievement. The Australian Paralympic Athletics Team won 26 medals (three gold, nine silver and 14 bronze) Rio 2016 and it is my hope that the team competing this year are able to build on these efforts as we look forward to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and Tokyo I acknowledge the invaluable support that the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Institute of Sport, as well as the state academy and institute network, have given to the preparation of Team Australia. The cooperation of the International Paralympic Committee and Australian Paralympic Committee, as well as Commonwealth Games Australia and the Oceania Athletics Federation is also appreciated. I look forward to enjoying the excitement of the World Para-Athletics Championships. MARK ARBIB President, Athletics Australia WORLD PARA-ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS MEDIA GUIDE athletics.com.au 3

29 RAE ANDERSON DATE OF BIRTH SOCIAL MEDIA (Twitter/Instagram) NSW F37 Kerry Smith Discus throw, Javelin Student 2015 World Para-Athletics Championships, 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2016 Paralympics. Discus throw 26.56m Javelin 24.63m Rae Anderson was born with cerebral palsy affecting her left side, particularly the movement of her hand and foot. She immersed herself in sport early, learning to swim before she learned to walk, but due to multiple surgeries and lengthy rehabilitation programs, Rae was unable to play competitive sport until the age of ten. In the meantime, she learned to sail and surf, and later joined the local soccer, basketball and OZTAG teams. Following a chance encounter with Paralympic gold medallist and fellow cerebral palsy athlete Evan O Hanlon in 2010, Rae turned her attention towards athletics. Though she concedes that sailing and boating will always be her priority on weekends, her ultimate goal in sport is to win a Paralympic medal in throwing. After placing second at the 2014 Australian Athletics Championships in Melbourne, Rae debuted for Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. When she and her former coach, Matt Horsnell, learned that discus would not be contested in her classification at the Paralympic Games, she began competing in long jump as a T37-classified athlete. Due to severe cramping in her left leg, it is often difficult for Rae to achieve the height she requires to land a successful jump. ATHLETE PROFILES as at 4 July 2017 with thanks to the Australian Paralympic Committee Rae showed that she was up for any challenge when she competed at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar on the same day that she sat her final HSC exam. The following year she was selected to partake in the Para-Athletics Junior High Performance Program to help to prepare her for qualification for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. At these Games, Rae placed fifth in javelin and eighth in discus. During the summer of 2016/17 she set personal bests in the discus and javelin and will arrive in London in the best form of her career. Rae is supported by the Donnica Clarke Foundation, an organisation geared towards supporting young athletes based on the NSW Central Coast. She is equally passionate about philanthropy and would like to dedicate her life to helping others, starting at the Westmead Children s Hospital, where she had three major operations and underwent months of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. After retiring from athletics, Rae is interested in working with charities overseas, particularly in Indonesia and also pursuing a career in media. She is fluent in Indonesian and learning Malaysian, and in her spare time enjoys watching Charmed, Reign and Heroes

She has just returned to Australia after a successful series of events in Switzerland, where she broke personal bests, Australian records and even dipped under times that would have been world records, only to be edged out for the win. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Angie won gold in the 1500m, and backed it up the following year at the IPC Grand Prix in Nottwil, Switzerland, where she broke a world record in the 400m that had stood for six years. In 2015 at the world championships she won the T53 200m and 400m and arrives in London in July as the defending champion. She won a third world title, the 100m, in At the Rio Paralympics, she claimed silver in the 4x400m relay and bronze in the 100m and 400m. When Angie was seven-years-old, she was involved in a near-fatal car accident that paralysed her. She recalls waking up on the side of the road unable to move after her father asked her to sit up. She spent six weeks in hospital before returning home to Canberra. Angie commenced rehabilitation in Sydney the following year and, having been exposed to disability early (her brother has spina bifida), it wasn t long before she adapted to life in a wheelchair. Angie experimented with many sports after attending a Wheelchair Sports NSW camp, but ultimately credits her PE teacher with finding her competitive edge in wheelchair racing. Looking for new ways to challenge herself, she began competing soon after. In 10 years time, she hopes to have added Paralympic gold to her collection of medals, still be involved in wheelchair sport, and to be in a position to support herself, her family and the other important people in her life. Having unofficially broken the 800m world record in February 2015, 21-year-old Torita Blake, who was born with cerebral palsy and vision impairment, is one of the most promising young athletes on the Australian Paralympic Team. She first began participating in sport after watching Indigenous athlete Cathy Freeman win gold at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, an achievement she rates among the greatest sporting moments of all time. Competing in athletics from 2011, Torita was determined to qualify for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, contesting the 100m at the National Championships in Melbourne in seconds despite excruciating leg pain. Incredibly, scans later revealed she had 11 bone fractures. Making her Paralympic debut at London 2012, Torita competed in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Although she didn t medal, she says that she was proud to represent Australia in the green and gold and race in front of tens of thousands of fans. At the 2015 Queensland Cup Championships Torita set herself the challenge of competing in a middle-distance race, the 800m. Her coach Wayne Leaver worked with her to improve her pace and she managed to break the world record in her first attempt. Unfortunately, the competition didn t have any anti-doping regulations, meaning her record is unofficial. Though hoping to achieve a podium finish at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, Torita fell just short, crossing for fourth in the 400m with a time of 1: Hailing from the Dhungutti nation in the Moree region of NSW, Torita was invited to raise the Aboriginal flag at the Kedron Park State Emergency Centre during NAIDOC Week in She would like to continue to be an ambassador for Indigenous athletes and to complete a degree in Indigenous Studies. In 10 years time Torita hopes to be a Paralympic gold medallist, still breaking world records, and a mentor to young athletes with a disability

The Queensland native went one better when he leapt 1.99m to claim bronze. Aaron, who was born without a fully formed right arm, was inspired to take up Para-Athletics after meeting members of the Australian national team while they were at a training camp in Townsville, in Two years later he won silver and set a world record holder in the high jump when he jumped 2.01m at the 2006 world championships. The follow year he raised the record to 2.05m. Aaron describes breaking and re-breaking the world record as two highlights of his career, only matched by his performance in Beijing. Aaron came down with the chicken pox just days before the 2008 Games were due to begin and was held in isolation in Hong Kong while doctors determined whether he was fit to compete. Luckily, Aaron recovered in time and went on to win silver in high jump and bronze in the 4x100m relay. The former Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder s competition philosophy is to approach every athletics meet with the same can-do attitude to get in there and get it done. Off the track, Aaron is employed as a property manager, and in his spare time he enjoys fishing, boating, slacklining and hiking. Tamworth-born Erin Cleaver was diagnosed with right-sided hemiparesis, a form of cerebral palsy, when she was one-year-old. First competing in athletics as a student at Barraba Central School in northern New South Wales, it was during a routine visit with her specialist at the time, Dr Kevin Lowe, that she was encouraged to pursue athletics as a recognised athlete with a disability. Competing as a T38-classified athlete at the 2013 NSW Combined High Schools Athletics Carnival, she took home gold in each of the four events she entered 100m, 200m, long jump and javelin. In little over two years, and under the guidance of Newcastle-based sprint and jump coach, Shaun Fletcher, Erin debuted for Australia at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha. There she landed a personal best of 4.45m, earning a fourth-place finish among the world s top long jump contenders. She also competed in the 100m sprint and the 4x100m relay, in a team comprising Isis Holt, Jodi Elkington-Jones and Ella Pardy. Unfortunately, they crossed the line for third but were disqualified for an illegal second change. Following Erin s success at the Championships, the Hunter Academy of Sport awarded her their highest honour, the Best Performance by an Individual Sportsperson gong. Working towards her dream of competing at the Paralympic Games, she followed this with a strong performance at the 2016 Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney, where she won bronze in the 200m and placed fifth in long jump. Donning the green and gold for Australia at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, a moment which ranks among the highlights of her career to date, Erin won bronze in the 4x100m relay and was just two centimetres from achieving a podium finish in the long jump. Cleaver, only 17, was in tremendous form over summer breaking the Australian open record with a leap of 4.62m. After transferring to Hunter Sports High School in Gateshead, NSW, Erin was recognised for her achievements in Rio when she was named their Sportsperson of the Year, and in 2017 she was selected to speak to the Mendooran, Dunedoo and Coolah communities as an Australia Day Ambassador. Off the track, Erin enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, and going to the movies. With travelling high on her priority list, she is currently learning how to drive so that she can explore her independence. A role model in her community, Erin enjoys encouraging others to pursue their dreams, and after finishing school she would like to establish a career in coaching and occupational therapy

As a long-distance runner at school, Jaryd competed against able-bodied athletes his age at the 2012 Australian Junior Athletics Championships. Although he placed 61st, Jaryd was incredibly proud of his result, as he was one of only a handful of participants that did not have a coach, nor had he started training properly. Realising his natural ability, Jaryd enlisted in Little Athletics for two seasons before joining the Diamond Valley athletics club, where he is now coached by Max Balchin. Jaryd debuted for Australia at the 2015 IPC World Championships in Doha, Qatar, where he placed seventh in the 5000m. Although he matched this result at the 2016 Paralympic Games, Jaryd shaved seconds off the time, and set an Oceanic record in the 1500m. Jaryd compiled an extraordinary 2016/17 summer season, slashing seconds from his personal bests. He will turn 18 just before the 2017 World Para-Athletics Championships and over summer he just missed the world record with a time of 3: He has positioned himself close to qualification for the 2018 IAAF World Under 20 Championships for able-bodied athletes. Brianna made her international debut at the 2015 world championships where she won a bronze in the 100m and was fourth in the 200m. Her ultimate goal had been selection for the Rio Paralympics which she achieved. She placed fourth in the 100m and fifth in the 200m. The Townsville local was introduced to her sport by her PE teacher, Marcia Langrin, in Year 7. The following year she was classified to compete in Para-Athletics at the Challenge Games in Townsville, and has been coached by Dayne O Hara since relocating to Townsville in Ahead of big competitions, Brianna likes to eat breakfast alone to spend time focusing on her events. With the hope of encouraging kids with disabilities, especially those with cerebral palsy, to get involved in sport, Brianna studied a Certificate III in Disability Services through Endeavour College. When she isn t training or competing, Brianna enjoys watching YouTube videos and comedies like The Big Bang Theory. During training, Jaryd looks to 2016 Australian Paralympic co-captain Kurt Fearnley for inspiration, whom he admires for his never-say-die attitude. Jaryd enjoys blogging about his experiences competing on the world stage, and in 10 years time, hopes to be a Paralympic gold medallist working in radio, advocating for the recognition of Para-sport and people with disabilities

He was on target to make his rowing debut in 2015 at the world championships, but a lack of certainty regarding his classification resulted in this not occurring - my dream of competing for Australia was shattered. But a collaboration between Rowing Australia and Athletics Australia, saw him move to athletics where he was classified F38 and linked up with Canberra throws coach and former Paralympic legend Hamish McDonald. In his first season, he nailed multiple shot put A world championships qualifying performances for the javelin and a B in the javelin. He will contest both events in London in July. He is fortunate the shot is on the track and field program for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, but he will need to focus on javelin for Tokyo in Post his sporting career he would like to move into a role where he can help and encourage kids to get involved with sport, at any level, but for now he ll take the athlete side of it as far as he physically can before thinking about a retirement plan. He is the eldest of twin boys and a volunteer firefighter in the ACT Rural Fire Service. His hobbies include playing any sport possible, playing guitar, tinkering with motorbikes and cars. Born in Newcastle, he completed a Bachelor of Economics at University of Newcastle and has written a book titled Selling like a Specialist, which helps individual people sell houses. Brayden Davidson carved out a name for himself in Paralympic sport when he won Australia s first gold medal in athletics at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Born with cerebral palsy, Brayden aspired to become a Paralympic rower. When his mum told him that he wasn t built for the sport, he attended an APC Talent Search Day in 2011 in a bid to prove her wrong, where he was encouraged to compete in swimming and athletics. Two years later Braydo made his international debut at the 2013 IPC Para-Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France, where he placed fourth in long jump, achieving a personal best of 5.00m. In 2015 his 5.51m world record qualified him for the IPC Para-Athletics World Championships in Doha, where he went one better than his 2013 campaign, winning the bronze medal. Brayden looks to Australia s most successful Paralympian, Adelaide boy Matt Cowdrey, and five-time Paralympic gold medallist, Evan O Hanlon for inspiration. Brayden hopes his career takes a similar shape to Evan s, who broke the 11-second barrier in the 100m sprint at Beijing Before each event, Brayden sits down to analyse his competition. Obsessed with sports statistics, he researches his competitors times and other elements of their performance. On the track, Brayden shifts focus, looking upwards to acknowledge his late grandfather, who was the first to encourage him to take up Paralympic sport. In 10 years time Brayden hopes to be a veteran of the Australian Paralympic Team and doing statistics and media work for major sporting events. He believes in the value of sharing knowledge and experience, and hopes to remain involved in Paralympic sport as a coach and mentor to emerging athletes. In 2017, he was awarded an OAM for winning gold in Rio

As the youngest competitor in the 2008 Australian Paralympic Team, 14-year-old Madison was stoked to be a part of the 4x100m relay team that won silver. She also raced well enough to compete in the final of the 100m event. At the age of four, Madison acquired transverse myelitis, a neurological disease inflaming the spinal cord, but it wasn t until she was 12-years-old that she got her first look into the world of Paralympic sport. After initially trying her hand at wheelchair tennis and basketball, Australian Paralympic legend, Frank Ponta, encouraged her to take up racing. In 2009, Madison was named the WA Junior Sports Star of the Year, a moment she still considers one of her greatest triumphs, and at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, following just a few weeks recovery from illness, she set a new Australian record in the 200m. In her teens, Sarah Edmiston was a talented hammer thrower, holding the state record. She was injured in a water skiing accident, but remained determined to compete in sport and she will make her debut in the green and gold at the 2017 World Para-Athletics Championships in London. Entered for the F44 shot put and discus, she is very proud to be representing Australia - I m excited and honoured. Sport and track and field is in their family. Sarah started aged six in Little Athletics and her husband Paul, is a three-time national 110m hurdles medallist. Gardening is a hobby for Sarah and she names her husband and her children as the biggest influence in her life. The Western Australian came close to winning a second Paralympic medal at the London Games, crossing for fourth in the 800m ahead of her hero and training partner, Angie Ballard. Madison admires Angela for her dedication and hard work, and says that racing alongside her when she broke the 400m world record is by far her greatest sporting moment. Under the tutelage of wheelchair racing great, Louise Sauvage, Madison cemented her place among the world s best when she won bronze in the 800m at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France and took out the world title in the same event in 2015 in Doha, Qatar. She was selected for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, but was unable to compete due to developing deep vein thrombosis while flying to participate at the Games. After the Commonwealth Games, she was unable to travel home to Australia for many weeks after the Games and until a doctor cleared her for travel. Madison moved one step closer to achieving her dream of Paralympic gold when she won individual silver at the 2016 Games in Rio. She also placed third in the 4x400m relay but was disqualified, before successfully appealing the decision and being reinstated to second. In a series of races in Switzerland in June, Madison smashed her personal bests in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m, with the latter being a new Australian record

Her two brothers and sister have competed at national levels in swimming and water polo, but Louise made her mark on land as a dancer and basketball player. A car accident in 1998 left Louise in a vegetative state after being in a coma for five months. Defying all odds, after not being able enough to complete rehabilitation, she started athletics for some fresh air and a new challenge. She soon found an affinity with shot put and has now competed at four Paralympic Games. With over a decade of experience, Kurt Fearnley s wheelchair racing career is as impressive as it is extensive. He has won New York, Sydney, Paris, London, Seoul and Chicago. He has also won three gold, seven silver and three bronze medals across five Paralympic Games. At the world championships, he has claimed four gold and one bronze. Born without the lower portion of his spine, Kurt took up wheelchair racing when he was 14-years-old. His indomitable spirit saw him go from pushing his wheelchair as fast as he could down the grass track at school athletics carnivals to pushing it the last five kilometres of the 2004 Paralympic marathon on a flat tyre to claim gold. First representing Australia at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Louise went on to achieve a world number one ranking for seated shot put in She was named the ACT Athletics Outstanding AWD Athlete in , and as well as the Athletics Australia Female Athlete with a Disability of the Year in Louise s next appearance at a Paralympic Games saw her place sixth in shot put, a result that she is very proud of, considering she suffered migraines throughout the Games. In 2010 Louise threw the shot a world record distance of 6.17m to win gold at the Commonwealth Games. She later beat this record at a domestic competition in Canberra, throwing 6.24m. A bronze medal at the 2011 IPC World Championships further indicated Louise s medal potential for London, where she claimed silver in shot put. While Louise had hoped to win gold, and regain her world record title at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, she put up a strong performance to take bronze. Ahead of each competition, she likes to get into gear by listening to music at maximum volume and singing loudly. She also keeps the key ring that her late brother gave to her, in her bag, and looks at it before taking to the field. The one-time model is a great scrabble player, loves her 18-year-old dog Sachi, and is a fan of the Australian bands Butterfingers and Numbers Radio. She graduated from Canberra Institute of Technology with a Certificate III in Business along with her mother and coach, June. It was a momentous occasion for both, as they had spent seven years studying between training commitments. Louise has also since completed a Certificate IV in Human Resources. She wrote the script for a short film titled With Little Hope, which is based on how she overcame her accident and became a world record holder and a Paralympic medallist. The film featured at the Hong Kong World International Film Festival. Unfortunately, Kurt s 2008 Paralympic campaign was not the one he had dreamt of, winning silver in the 800m and 5000m and bronze in the 1500m, before defending his title and pushing to gold in the marathon. However, just two months later he won the New York marathon, becoming the first and only person to date in his division to win the race three times. In what has become one of the greatest rivalries in Paralympic sport, Kurt went head-to-head with Great Britain s David Weir at the 2012 London Games. With the whole of the host country behind him, Weir was unstoppable, leaving Kurt with silver in the 5000m and bronze in the marathon. Painfully, just 0.01 of a second stood between Kurt and fulfilling his dream of winning three consecutive Paralympic marathons. In 2013, Kurt won his ninth consecutive Oz Day 10km and was awarded the honour of delivering the Australia Day Address. Off the back of a successful 2013 came two major victories in Fighting a virus in the days before the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Kurt crossed for silver in the 1500m, and in November he won his fifth New York Marathon. Kurt was selected as co-captain of the 2016 Australian Paralympic Team, representing his country proudly in the 1500m, 5000m (bronze), and marathon (silver). In the lead-up to London, Kurt has been in terrific form during a series of race in Switzerland. He twice pushed under the 5000m world record to placed fourth, breaking the Australian record. In 2005, he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia. Kurt captivated the Australian public in 2009 when he successfully crawled the 96km Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea, and in 2011 he was chosen as a celebrity crew member on the winning yacht in the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

When Guy was seven he developed a brain tumour which affected his right side including his vision. He had hoped to pursue a career in tennis for athletes with a disability but after learning he was ineligible, turned his attention towards athletics. A product of the Australian Paralympic Committee s Talent Search Program, Guy is coached by former top Australian hammer throwers, Karyne Di Marco and Breanne Clement. He looked a medal chance for Rio after he won silver at the 2015 IPC World Championships in Doha, Qatar, but placed fourth at the Games, throwing 51.97m. As a huge tennis fan, Guy s favourite sports star is Roger Federer, and like the Swiss champion, he tries to keep a cool head during competition. His pre-competition routine is to take his shoes off before entering the call room, and when he puts them back on, to go left foot first. Guy completed a TAFE course in Networking Information Technology, and is now employed as an IT administrator. Todd Hodgetts, the strong man of the Australian Paralympic Athletics Team, had to wait 12 long years for the Paralympic Games to be reopened to athletes with an intellectual disability. He first began competing in field events in 1998 when his brother brought home a shot put from school, and after watching the Paralympic Games in Sydney two years later, he was motivated to represent Australia at the highest level. After learning that his pathway to the Games had closed, Todd turned his attention to weightlifting. Inspired by Australian Olympic gold medallist Dean Lukin, he set new Australian junior dead lift and Tasmanian super heavyweight records. When athletes with an intellectual disability were re-included in three sports for the London Games, Todd retired from weightlifting and relocated to Canberra to commit to full-time training in shot put. Todd proved that the move was worthwhile when he set a new world record and won gold at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, and bronze the following year at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France despite an elbow injury. The Hulk had hoped to defend his Paralympic title at Rio 2016, saying I m going to defend my title because I m a champion. To be a legend you have to defend it twice and I ll do anything to keep going. Unfortunately, putting 15.82m, he was just over a metre short, taking home bronze instead. In his spare time Todd studies, completing a Certificate IV in Fitness and relaxes with friends. He received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in

She cemented her place among the world s best at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, where she shaved almost one second off her own 200m world record to win gold and qualify for the 2016 Paralympic Games. Surging out of the blocks in lane six, Isis was challenged around the bend by friendly rival, 15-year-old Maria Lyle of Great Britain, before digging deep to break away on the home straight. She considers it the most exciting race of her career to date, not only because it was her first time overseas, but her result exceeded any expectations she had of her performance heading into competition. Coached by Nick Wall, the Canberra-born charge says that while setting new world records has been a great experience, what she is most proud of is being able to prove that having a disability does not stop you from achieving your goals. Isis hopes to use her success to inspire others and change perceptions. At her Paralympic debut in Rio, Isis medalled in each of the three events she competed in. In the100m and 200m, she claimed silver behind Chinese competitor, Xia Zhou, in what were two of the youngest podium finishes in Paralympic history. She also competed in the 4x100m relay with Australian teammates, Ella Pardy, Jodi Elkington-Jones and Erin Cleaver, where they crossed for third. For Nicholas Hum, sport runs through his veins. His father represented Victoria on the track and his grandmother worked in the Athletes Village at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. Nicholas was approached by his now coach, Max Binnington, during a school sports event, and was encouraged to attend a couple of athletics training sessions to test out his fast twitch muscles. Nicholas passion for sport led him to take up the offer and in November of 2010 he competed in the Australian AWD Junior Championships in Canberra, breaking national records in the 100m and long jump. Competing at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, was very special for Nicholas. Not only did he celebrate his 18th birthday, but also donned the green and gold for the first time. As the second youngest competitor in his classification, Nicholas set a new Australian and Oceanic record in long jump, which he later extended in his Paralympic debut. At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Nicholas placed fifth in long jump, landing 6.89m. The Wantirna local enjoys spending his time improving his woodwork skills, which he developed over four years studying a Certificate II in Cabinet Making. He loves to keep fit in the gym and playing basketball, and is also looking to take up outdoor recreation sports like rock-climbing, hiking and white-water rafting. Off the track, Isis enjoys writing, reading, drama, and is also a budding equestrian. She loves to watch The Great Gatsby and Wentworth, and says that if she ever came down to her last $10, she would spend it on Lindt chocolate

He is, however, not new to sport, as a former gridiron player with the Geelong Buccaneers. Tragically he sustained an injury during a misguided tackle, which caused a knee dislocation while playing gridiron. It led to sensory ataxia/loss of proprioception and partial paralysis lower left leg. But his desire for sport remained strong, taking up athletics in 2014 to give himself something to focus on and have a goal to work towards after sustaining his injury. Marty and Cam Crombie are Australia s new force in the F38 shot put and he has been encouraged by the visually impaired legend of Australian sport, Russell Short (F12) - Rusty is an absolute champion of the sport, who has kindly offered guidance and support in recent years. Marty interests include hot-rod building and BBQ meat smoking. He desires to improve his sport by leading by example - If I can represent para-sport as a good role model for the future athletes, then I feel I have contributed to the betterment of Athletics in Australia. Born with achondroplasia, Claire Keefer has shown incredible promise as a Paralympic thrower since beginning her athletics career at 14. Claire was delivering a message to her brother s athletics coach when, on hearing that she didn t participate in athletics because she couldn t run, he encouraged her to try throwing. The following year she began training with a coach who specialised in working with athletes with a disability, and after performing exceptionally well at the 2010 Australian Athletes with a Disability Championships in Canberra, where she would have qualified for the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand had she been older (classification for short stature athletes is determined by the limb length to height ratio, and given her age, she may still have been growing), Claire was thrilled to be invited to join the Open division. The Withcott local worked hard to improve her technique, and at the 2015 IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai, UAE, she achieved a silver and bronze medal finish in discus and shot put, respectively. Representing Australia again in both events at her Paralympic debut in Rio, Claire stunned her competitors with bronze in shot put, a moment which ranks among the highlights of her whirlwind career to date. Claire currently works as a childcare worker, but in 10 years time she hopes to have completed a degree in either education or childhood psychology

But it wasn t until 2015, when he broke the world record in the 1500m on home turf in Hobart, that he was labelled a future Paralympic gold medallist. Born with cerebral palsy affecting the right side of his body, Deon first started running to improve his fitness for AFL. He soon discovered his natural ability and began training with coach, Mike Gunson, for the 800m and 1500m events in local competitions. Inspired by American Olympic track star, Steve Prefontaine, Deon exceeded his own expectations at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships, where he crossed for third. He is motivated by Steve s mantra that to give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift. At the 2015 world championships he won bronze in the 1500m. At the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, he won silver in the 1500m, just over a second behind gold medallist Abbes Saidi. In his third consecutive, global event he had won his third medal. Deon has compiled an impressive summer of results, including breaking the world record (4:05.11) at the national championships and breaking the Australian 800m record. The Forth local is now working towards running under four minutes in the 1500m, breaking his own world record. To compete at his best, Deon admits to having an unusual pre-competition routine; he warms up one hour beforehand, listens to Best of You by the Foo Fighters, and pumps up by hitting his chest or hands together. Off the track, Deon likes to read, hang out with mates, and go to the movies. He hopes to one day own a sportswear company. A promising ruckman for Glenelg in the SANFL, Daniel Kirk was 30-years-old when he suffered a permanent and debilitating ankle injury that finished his football career. Having landed on a stiff leg during a 2012 SANFL game, Daniel permanently compressed his ankle and cartilage and was unable to walk. While he had six operations over two years to repair the damage, Daniel still experiences considerable pain under load and has joint range limitation. A natural athlete, Daniel s immediate plan was to make his way back to AFL but instead, was introduced to Parasport by the South Australian Sports Institute. Garnering the attention of the APC s Paralympic Performance Talent Program, Daniel was fast-tracked into throwing and was given partial funding for his highly specialised Dynamic Ground Reaction Ankle Foot Orthosis splint designed to aid the restricted movement in his ankle and reduce the pain when standing on his leg. The door had opened on another sport for Daniel, Para-Athletics. He missed selection for the Rio Paralympics, but gets his chance here the World Para-Athletics Championships in London where he will contest the F44 discus. With a Bachelor of Human Movement and Health Studies, as well as a Level 2 Strength and Conditioning Coach certificate, Daniel works as a strength and conditioning coach. He is also a certified AFL coach and is currently studying for his Level 2 Coaching certificate through the AFL. With an avid interest in being an advocate and mentor, Daniel is an aspiring politician, aligned to Senator Nick Xenophon. As an up-and-coming leader in his community, Daniel also works closely with KickStart4Kids, a charity which helps disadvantaged school children in South Australia in a mentorship role. Jake was also dominant at the National Underage Championships that year, taking home five gold medals. He made his Paralympic debut at the 2012 Games in London, and was a member of the 4x100m relay team that took bronze. The following year Jake competed at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France, and then again in 2015 in Doha, Qatar. His career still in its infancy, Jake was ranked 17th in the world in the 400m and 800m heading into the 2016 Paralympic Games, but was confident in his ability to reach new heights in Rio. But unfortunately, Jake was forced to withdraw from competition due to illness just two events into his Games campaign, meaning the Australian 4x400m relay team comprising Jake, Kurt, Richard and Sam Carter did not compete in the final. Jake bounced back to top form in June 2017 as he prepared for the London world championships during a series of races in Switzerland. He broke Kurt Fearnley s national 800m record which had stood for 13 years. He also set three personal bests during the competitions. When he isn t studying, training or competing, Jake enjoys hanging out with his mates and playing the guitar and drums. He enjoys listening to Daft Punk, and is working towards one day owning a gym. A special talent of Jake s is his ability to perform push-ups without the use of his legs. In 10 years time Jake hopes to be competing at such a level that he can beat the times of his role model, five-time Paralympian Kurt. Having only started wheelchair racing two years before making his Paralympic debut in London, Rheed McCracken is well-placed to become a legend in the sport. In his short career, he has already claimed eight podium finishes at world championships and Paralympics. Born with cerebral palsy, which causes extreme tightness in his leg muscles, forcing them to internally rotate, Rheed displayed determination and passion for sport from a young age. Prior to discovering wheelchair racing, he participated in the ambulant 100m, 200m, discus, shot put and long jump at his home club, West Bundaberg Little Athletics. Rheed was 13-years-old when the strain of ambulant sport caught up to him, and following multiple surgeries, he made the decision to begin using a wheelchair. Still determined to pursue a career in athletics, Rheed attended a junior development camp, but it was a chance meeting with Channel 7 media personality, David Koch, that would propel him into Paralympic stardom. In 2011 Rheed debuted for Australia at the IWAS World Games in Sharjah, where he won one gold and four silver medals to qualify for the London Games the following year. These achievements signalled a strong Paralympic campaign for Rheed, who won silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m, leading him to be named the APC Junior Athlete of the Year, alongside star swimmer, Maddison Elliott. At the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, Rheed put up another solid performance, medalling in both his events. Trying his hand at middle-distance racing, he crossed for third in the 800m. Rheed has been in the best form of his life in the leadup to London, breaking the world record over 100m in Switzerland in June He clocked to eclipse the record held by Tunisia s Walid Ktila. The performance by Rheed has setup a potential showdown in London. Hailing from Bundaberg on the North Queensland coast, Rheed races with a superman logo taped under his chair in honour of his late friend and wheelchair racer, Tyson Cooper. He carries the Superman logo with him to symbolically fulfil Tyson s own Paralympic dreams, and in a twist of fate, won his first Paralympic medal on what would have been Tyson s 23rd birthday

While recovering in hospital, the thrill-seeker from Geelong was inspired by stuntmen he saw performing back flips in wheelchairs and turned his attention to wheelchair rugby. However, a chance encounter with Kaye Colman, the mother of Paralympic gold medallist Richard Colman, directed Sam down the path of wheelchair racing. In a 12-month period, and guided by Richard s coach Mandi Cole, Sam managed to improve his times in the 100m, 200m and 400m by just over one, four-and-a-half and nearly five seconds, respectively, and though unable to snatch gold from Swiss champion Beat Boesch at the 2010 Swiss Nationals, finishing second to him in the 100m, 200m and 400m events, these results only further motivated Sam to strive for Paralympic gold. Achieving finals appearances in all his events at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, Sam edged closer to his goal of Paralympic gold at Rio 2016, where he placed just one short of a medal in the 100m. Outside of training and competition, Sam watches BMX riding and plays the guitar, with his passion for music once prompting him to wheelchair crowd-surf at a Parkway Drive concert. Born with cerebral palsy, Brydee Moore lives by the motto see the athlete, not the disability. At her first international competition, the 2006 FESPIC Games, she cleaned up the field in discus and shot put, taking home gold in both events. Brydee has 13 National Championship gold medals to her name, and holds the F33 Oceanic records in shot put and javelin. Her shot put personal best, 6.47m, is also in touching distance of the world record. Brydee first represented Australia at the Paralympic Games in Beijing in She placed 5th in discus and shot put but raised the roof when she set a new personal best in discus, eclipsing her old mark by two metres. Extremely happy with her results in Beijing, the experience she gained there proved to be invaluable to her preparation for the London Games. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Brydee placed 4th in shot put behind her Australian teammate, Louise Ellery. She placed 6th in shot put and 10th in javelin at the Paralympic Games in London, and just missed out on shot put bronze in Rio. Brydee credits her coach, John Eden, as being one of her role models and proudly wears a tiki charm he gifted her around her neck. She says that she cannot take it off and given that she has a green belt in karate, you would have to be a very brave person to try to take it from her. Away from the field, Brydee loves to cook and enjoys TV comedies like Kath and Kim and Summer Heights High. Brydee s main ambition is to represent Australia at eight Paralympic Games

After regaining some of the strength in her legs, she was diagnosed with incomplete paraplegia. She took up athletics as a teenager in 2007, at the suggestion of Australian gold medallist, Richard Colman s mother, and says that one of her greatest sporting moments was winning the 100m at the Victoria State Championships just a year later. Jemima made her Paralympic debut as a 16-year-old in Beijing, where she won silver in the 4x100m relay alongside Angela Ballard, Christie Dawes and Madison de Rozario. Jemima was extremely happy with her results and remains inspired by the hard work and dedication she saw in the other athletes competing in Beijing, namely Richard and Canadian athlete, Chantal Petitclerc. The Belmont local decided to take a break from athletics around the time of the London Games to study a university degree. She returned to the sport to compete in Rio, where she achieved silver in the 4x400m relay with the same group of women she raced with in Jemima s personal goals are to complete her degree and to then take on further study in sports education. She lists her favourite food as M&Ms and likes to unwind by reading, drawing and watching movies, particularly The Road to El Dorado. Growing up with five sisters, Evan O Hanlon jokes that he had to learn to be fast on his feet if he wanted to eat. Involved in athletics at school, he was encouraged by a PE teacher to begin competing as an athlete with a disability, and then linked to a coach through the APC Talent Search Program. Evan exploded onto the world athletics stage in 2005, the same year he began competing, and immediately created a name for himself in Paralympic sprinting, which he later cemented at his Paralympic debut in Beijing. There he won the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in world record time, becoming the first athlete with cerebral palsy to break the 11-second barrier over 100m. At the 2011 world championships, Evan again won gold in the 100m and 200m and, keen to push himself, also tried his hand at the 400m and long jump, placing second and fourth, respectively. Evan s outstanding form continued at the London Games, where he again won gold in the 100m and 200m events in world record time. Fittingly, he was chosen to carry the flag at the Games Closing Ceremony and was named Male Athlete of the Year at the 2012 Paralympian of the Year Awards. After returning from London, Evan continued to turn heads. In 2014, he became the fastest Australian Paralympian ever across all classes when he ran the 100m in seconds. He also qualified for the able-bodied National Championships after winning the 100m at the ACT titles. Evan had hoped to break his own world record at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and set it so low that no one would ever touch it. Unfortunately, as Evan later reflected, it just wasn t his Games. He crossed for silver in the 100m and an injury flare-up caused him not to compete in the 400m. The champion sprinter credits his success to his coach of 10 years and the most influential person in his life, Iryna Dvoskina. He also admires Australian Paralympic great and former squad member, Heath Francis dedication to training. Evan has a degree in landscape architecture and owns a café, Superfine, with his wife, Czech Republic race walker Zuzana Schindlerová

Although it took most of her teenage years to find her niche, Ella rose quickly to the top, debuting for Australia at the 2007 Special Olympics Shanghai World Games, where she won gold in the 100m sprint. Ella says that the happiness she felt standing atop the dais is etched into her memory, and motivated her massively ahead of her first Paralympic Games. Ella developed cerebral palsy from asphyxiation during her 28-hour delivery, and at the age of three, she was also diagnosed with autism. She first got involved in sport in the hope it would ease her insomnia, participating in ice skating, swimming, basketball and horse riding. In 2009 and 2011 Ella represented Australia at the INAS Global Games for Para-athletes with an intellectual disability, but was reclassified as a T38 athlete to reflect her cerebral palsy. At the 2014 WA State Championships, Ella ran the 100m just 0.06 seconds off world record pace. She confirmed she has what it takes to compete at the highest level when she ran the third fastest time ever in the 200m at the 2015 WA Athletics Championships. Ella travelled to Rio the following year to represent Australia at her first Paralympic Games, where she won bronze in the 4x100m relay. Ella is the current Australian and Oceanic record holder in the 100m and 200m. Outside of sport, Ella enjoys listening to music, singing, dancing and playing Candy Crush. Her favourite movie is Frozen and she loves to watch MasterChef. Although still new to the Para-Athletics track, Chad White Tiger Perris previewed his Paralympic potential at the 2013 IPC World Para-Athletics Championships in Lyon, France, where he broke the 200m national and Oceanian records, the Australian record having stood for 28 years. Born with albinism affecting the pigment in his eyes, skin and hair, Chad only began competing in athletics as a way of keeping fit during the AFL off-season. Never having considered a pathway in Para-Athletics, it was only after joining Perth s North Beach Athletics club that he shifted his attention to qualification for the Paralympic Games. Since his stellar debut for Australia in 2013, Chad has continued to make waves, and in 2014 he was nominated alongside Paralympic powerhouses Kurt Fearnley and Michael Roeger for Athletics Australia s Male Para-athlete of the Year award. After relocating to Canberra to train under world-renowned coach Iryna Dvoskina, Chad has continued his rise in the sport, culminating in his selection for the 2016 Paralympic Games. Making his Paralympic debut in Rio, Chad exceeded expectations to win bronze behind Ireland s Jason Smyth and Namibia s Johannes Nambala in the 100m sprint. Naming five-time Paralympic gold medallist Evan O Hanlon as his greatest role model, Chad hopes to emulate Evan s success over the next several years by breaking multiple world records. The Bruce local completed a Certificate IV in Sport Development and Athlete Services in 2009 with his sights set on a career in sports administration following his retirement from athletics

Eager to return to the water, Scott relearned how to walk in just one week, and went on to represent Australia three times at the Water Skiing World Championships, where he won the world title twice. After watching the Australian Paralympic Team compete at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, Scott was motivated to pursue a career in Para-Athletics. He relocated to Canberra in 2009, where he trained under world-renowned coach Iryna Dvoskina and alongside Para-sprint champions Heath Francis and Evan O Hanlon, before long developing into a world-class athlete. Less than a year after joining the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) program, Scott achieved a podium finish at the National Athletics Championships in Perth, and at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, he placed fourth and fifth in the 100m and 200m, respectively. Making his Paralympic debut the following year in London, Scott raced strongly in both his events, winning silver behind German competitor Heinrich Popow in the 100m and placing fourth in the 200m. A sign of things to come, Scott achieved his first international gold medal at the 2015 IPC World Championships in Doha, Qatar, matching this result the following year at the Paralympic Games in Rio. Despite having retired from competition, Heath continues to encourage and motivate Scott, as does Scott s brother Phil, who he credits with saving his life. Scott is currently studying a Bachelor of Education majoring in Design Technology at the University of Canberra, and is employed as a tour guide at the AIS. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching water skiing and playing golf. Michael Roeger says that he isn t scared of anything, but if he was, there s little chance it could catch him. Born in South Australia, the Canberra local got involved in Para-Athletics at the age of 12 after four-time Paralympian, Neil Fuller, spoke at his school, introducing him to the movement. Not knowing many people with a disability, Michael was inspired by Neil and decided to pursue a career in sport. He laced up for the second leg of the 4x100m relay at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, but it is in middle-distance events that he excels, winning bronze in the 800m and 1500m at his first international competition, the 2006 FESPIC Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Michael has competed at three Paralympic Games to date, but really came into his own post-london. At the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France, he won bronze in the 1500m and 5000m, and in June 2015 he smashed the 1500m world record. Unfortunately, a drug test was not available at the event and the result could not be ratified. He continued to break the world record in 2016 and 2017 now holds the mark at 3:46.51, set at the Sydney Track Classic in February He has had good success in major championships over the last two years with a bronze medal wins in the 1500s at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, and the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. Michael often turns to his immediate family for inspiration. His dad, an all-round legend, has supported him throughout his athletics career, and he admires his twin brother s dedication to his medical career. A keen sports fan, Michael likes to play AFL and golf in his spare time, between training and studying for a degree in advertising and marketing. In 10 years time Michael hopes to be operating a hobby farm in South Australia and running marathons

45 CARLY SALMON DATE OF BIRTH NSW T35 Mark Conyers and Brett Robinson 100m, 200m SOCIAL MEDIA (Twitter/Instagram) Student -/carlysalmon_ 3 x World Championships (debut 2013) 100m m JAYDEN SAWYER DATE OF BIRTH SOCIAL MEDIA (Twitter/Instagram) ACT F38 Mike Barber 3 x World Championships (debut 2013), 1 x Paralympic Games (debut 2016) Javelin 48.55m Wagga Wagga teenager Carly Salmon proved herself to be a Paralympic champion of the future, when at the young age of 14, she stunned the world with stellar results at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in France. Having only celebrated her 14th birthday days prior, Carly broke an Australian record in the 100m T35 semi-final before breaking it once again on the final, to finish fifth. Two days later, she won bronze in the 200m, an incredible result for her first international competition. Carly first got involved in Para-Athletics as an eight-year-old, when her PE teacher saw her potential in sport and encouraged her to take part in local Athletes with a Disability competitions. Although she was born with cerebral palsy which affects the left side of her body, she never saw herself as someone with a disability but thrived on the opportunity to compete and in 2012 got internationally classified, which opened new doors. When training for Rio, the Mater Dei Catholic College student turned to Paralympic gold medallist and 2013 World Championship teammate Kelly Cartwright for inspiration. Listing Kelly s win in the long jump at London 2012 as her greatest sporting moment, Carly was honoured to compete alongside the champion in France and meeting her was the moment she realised she had the potential to go far in her sport. She says Kelly also provided her with great support in France and her training ethic has been a huge motivator in getting her to where she is today. Jayden Sawyer has displayed determination and passion for Paralympic throwing since beginning his career as a 13-year-old in The cerebral palsy athlete competed against his able-bodied classmates until discovering Para-sport at an ACT Schools Carnival, where he decided to compete the following year. After dominating the field, Jayden went from strength to strength, culminating in his debut for Australia at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France. Exceeding all expectations, Jayden won bronze in javelin and placed sixth in shot put. Jayden credits these impressive results to seven-time Paralympian and long-time coach, Hamish MacDonald, whose career, he says, has been a source of inspiration. At the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, he placed fifth in javelin, throwing 45.63m. Disappointed with this result, which was below his personal best, Jayden looks ahead to Tokyo. Away of training, Jayden enjoys spending time with his friends and watching comedies. His favourite quote is, you only get out what you put in, and applies this directly to his athletics career and personal life. But Carly missed selection for Rio. A few months after the Games, she spoke of her disappointment. She had thoughts of quitting Para-Athletics after she was not selected to compete at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Outside of sport, Carly likes to spend time with her friends and family, as well as volunteering for Family Link where she looks after children with special needs. In ten years time, she hopes to be juggling her thriving athletics career while working with kids with a disability. Carly s ultimate goal in life is to make a difference. With her potential in Para-sport apparent and her career ambitions, she is on her way to doing just that

Debuting in Seoul in 1988, the talented field athlete has won six gold, two silver and three bronze medals spread across discus, shot put and javelin this in addition to four gold and three silver medals at World Championship level. Russell, who has macular degeneration, was given the honour of carrying the Australian flag during the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Games in Beijing. Placing sixth in shot put, these Games were the first that he missed the dais in 20 years, before returning four years later in London with bronze. He was seventh in Rio. Off the track, Russell is equally determined to make waves. He once walked the Kokoda Trail as the subject of a documentary, and paddled 400km from Australia to New Guinea across the Torres Strait. Originally hailing from Poowong in country Victoria, the Glenhuntly local loves to return home to his five-acre property whenever possible, often taking his kids and dog out camping to indulge in some quality relaxation time. Russell was awarded an OAM in 1993 for his dual gold medal haul at the Barcelona 1992 Paralympic Games. James Turner first represented Australia in football 7-a-side at the 2012 AFC Dream Asia Cerebral Palsy Tournament in Abu Dhabi, but turned his attention to athletics when the Para-roos did not qualify for the 2016 Paralympic Games. The following year James clocked his maiden qualifier for the Games with a time of 2:08.90 in the 800m at the 2016 Australian Athletics Championships, and when he hit the track in Rio, he stunned locals with his brave, world recordbreaking performance, crossing for gold with a time of 2: The Wollongong local is unsure about what he would do if faced with the prospect of choosing between football and athletics for Tokyo He will not be able to defend his crown in Tokyo as the event has not been listed for inclusion, however he has adapted well to the short distances and at the IPC world Para-Athletics championships in London, he will compete in the 200m, 400m and 800m. In a departure meet in June 2017, he dipped under the world record running When he isn t training, James is studying a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wollongong. In January 2017, he received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of the gold medal he won at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio

47 SARAH WALSH DATE OF BIRTH NSW F44 Brett Robinson Long Jump SOCIAL MEDIA (Twitter/Instagram) sarah_walsh14 2 x World Championships (debut 2015), 1 x Paralympics Games (debut 2016) Long Jump 5.05m JESSEE WYATT DATE OF BIRTH VIC F33 John Eden Shot Put Athlete 2 x World Championships (debut 2015), 1 x Paralympics Games (debut 2016) Shot Put 9.36m Born without her fibula, Sarah Walsh was just 18-months old when her parents made the decision to have her left leg amputated. Running on her prosthetic leg within a week of it being fitted, it was a tell-tale sign that she was a Paralympic athlete in the making. Sarah participated in swimming and gymnastics before discovering Para-sport at the age of nine, ahead of her first school athletics carnival. Her PE teacher noticed that her results were comparable to those of her able-bodied classmates and she was encouraged to enter the Zone Athletics Carnival. After that, she was hooked. That same year, Sarah raced at the 2007 NSW State Championships, after which she was selected to represent her state at a national level. Over the next couple of years, her passion for sprinting grew, and when she was gifted her first running blade, Sarah promised herself that she would become the best athlete she could be. New Zealand-born Jessee Wyatt began playing sport at the insistence of his surgeon, and while involved in Paraequestrian, met the wife of his current coach, John Eden, who spotted his talent for shot put. Following this chance encounter in 2012, Jessee debuted for Australia at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, where he placed fifth. He went one better at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, securing a fourth-place finish and Oceania record, with just 28cm standing between Jessee and bronze. In 10 years time, he hopes to be a two-time Paralympian with at least one medal under his belt, and off the back of his results in Rio, looks to be well on his way. Off the field, Jessee can be found camping at the Bemm River in Victoria. With several junior titles and national records to her name, it was no surprise when, in 2014, Sarah debuted for Australia at the Sainsbury s International Match in Glasgow. She fell just short of gold in the long jump, claiming silver behind a Paralympian with years more experience. As the only Australian athlete invited to compete against a group of athletes from Great Britain, Scotland and America, Sarah says that the experience was a true pinch-myself moment, and that the excitement of wearing green and gold motivated her further during training for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. At her Paralympic debut, Sarah placed sixth in long jump after landing a whopping 4.82m - a new Oceanic record. Her great form continued in the 2016/17 summer season where she smashed the Oceania record with a best of 5.05m. Sarah is coached by Brett Robinson and trains six days a week. She completes three track sessions, two home-gym sessions and a pool session, in which she either swims or does water running. She also plays wheelchair basketball with the Sutherland Wheelie Sharks, with hopes to represent Australia in it as well. Outside of athletics and wheelchair basketball, the talented Sydneysider is also a keen surfer, for which she uses a waterproof leg. She has been surfing longer than she has been running, and tries to catch a wave whenever she travels
