This year s event will be on Saturday, November 19 TH, from 10:00am until 3:00pm. JGC s Thanksgiving Turkey shoot has been an almost continuous community event since about Again this year, as per the last 10 or more years, we are joined by the Juneau Shooting Sports Foundation and the Juneau Archery Club holding a joint Turkey Shoot event at the ADF&G Hunter-Education Facility, better known as the indoor range. Fifty and more turkeys will be awarded to the skilled and/or lucky individuals participating in this year s events. The year s games of chance will include non-conventional trap, card and bubble shoots, Annie Oakley and more! Heading up the JGC Turkey shoot will be our club s directors. Of course JGC will be looking for volunteer members to help the club directors put on this event for our fellow club and community members and visitors. We will need about 14 JGC members for a 2.5 to 3 hour morning or afternoon shift to act as line and safety officers and general all-around help. Four of the volunteer s will work inside the club selling the tickets for the games of chance, while the others will work the shooting lanes. Please sign-up at the club counter or give the club a call ( ) or me a call (789-90) or . Your help is needed to make this a successful community and club fund raising event. We do have a good start of volunteers with our directors and caretaker. Please come out and help make this event a success and win a turkey for your Thanksgiving Day table. A volunteer sign-up sheet will be at our club counter
3 PAST EVENTS: 2016 ANNUAL MEETING; October 6 th saw our annual meeting held per the club s bylaws. 17 members attended. Chip Verrelli, our treasurer, reported our club to be in good financial health even with the loss of our past pull tab provider, the Viking Bar. Caretaker Carter reported on M & O activities while President Mer Chant Thompson summed the past years activities. Through Mal Menzies Mona Yarnall reported on last years league and gave the members 2 options for this coming league. The members choose a 12 week league program, 10 weeks of shooting and two work weeks. The Captains meeting will be 12/1/16 and the first week of league will be Thursday, 12/8/16. There will be a 2 week break for the Christmas/New Year holidays. Mona also reported this will be her last year of running the winter league. She asked members to volunteer their help with this year s league and consider stepping forward to run the league. Several comments were offered by members during the open comment section of the adgenda. The most notable was for membership renewals be allowed by on-line methods. This will be looked into. A director s nomination and election was held. Members Verrelli; Thompson; Godkin; Kappler; Bertholl and Menzies were nominated. Warne Bertholl withdrew from his nomination and the remaining 5 were elected for the year. An election of club officers will be held by the new directors on October th. Hall of Fame nomination by President Mer Chant Thompson was made naming Mal Menzies the honoree. The present members supported the nomination JGC OFFICERS ELECTED; On October the newly elected directors meant to elect officers and conduct a limited board meeting. Mal Menzies was elected President; Jerry Godkin was elected Vice President; Chip Verrelli was re-elected Treasurer; Mark Kappler was elected Secretary and Mer Chant Thompson elected Past President. PAST DIRECTOR WAYNE BERTHOLL HONORED; For his past 10 years and more of service to Juneau s Gun Club, Wayne Bertholl was presented with a cover of Trap & Field magazine. The cover honored Wayne for his past and continuing service to JGC.
4 TRAPS 2 & 4 ARE RE-BORN; As reported last month, with the very generous donations by the Alaska s Territory Sportsman Association and member Jan Van Dort, Trap house 2 had installed a brand new PAT Trap. We have been shooting on it for over a month. Hopefully you noticed the thank you sign on the trap house. The old trap 2 was taken this last week, cleaned and dressed and placed in Trap 4 s house. The trap that old trap 2 replaced was our oldest and most used trap, having thrown almost 1 million targets. [We will not speak about how much work was done keeping trap 4 going.] All this effort was made by a few selected members led by Wayne Bertholl. We all must thank Jerry Godkin, Fred Wilson, Pete Hudson, Mal Menzies and Rick Carter for their volunteering on this work effort. The old trap 4 will now be re-built and stored by volunteer Jerry Godkin with others helping as requested. It will then be ready for use, if needed. A Pat Trap body that has many parts which were borrowed, sits in our back room area and will be placed on E-Bay and the Alaska List with hopes that we will also gain something for it.
