Twitter is the internet tool that presents a short statement, usually 140 letters or less, with facts and opinion about a subject you express an interest in and a source you choose to follow. President s Message It s a Great Summer We are having a great summer at Sportsman s Park. The Shooting has been great. The food has been great. The crowds have been great. Come on out and enjoy an evening or an afternoon at Sportsman s. New Probationary Members At the July meeting the Board approved Don Sitter, John Kunkes and Dave Richter for Probationary Membership. When you see them in the clubhouse or on the line please congratulate them on becoming Probationary Members of the Club. New Member Orientation The next three new member orientations (informal history and workings of the club) will be held at the club on Sunday August 9 th, Sunday September 13 th and Sunday October 11 th at 10:00 AM. Please RSVP to myself at The Range Volunteer clinic will begin at 11:00 AM on those days. Everyone interested in learning how the machines work should attend. 2 NSC shooters at Illinois State shoot bring home 4 trophies; Moore and Calhoun recognized for state team achievement! NSC had seven members participate in this year s Illinois State Trapshooting championships. The state shoot is held at Brittany Shooting Park in Bunker Hill. Bunker Hill is located about 30 minutes southwest of Litchfield, just south of Springfield. The Illinois state shoot runs for six days, with the championship events being contested the last three days. The state doubles championship is held on Friday, the singles championship on Saturday, and the handicap championship on Sunday. The facility has 24 trap fields for the events, along with a practice trap. Besides the challenge of breaking targets, possibly the most significant challenge this year was the weather. Rain fell the first four days of the shoot, heavy at times, ensuring that nearly everyone ended up shooting in the rain for many of their events. By Wednesday the grounds were waterlogged and dry parking spots were at a premium. Every year seems to have a fashion trend, and this year it was Muck Boots. Saturday was the only day without rain, but more storms rolled in Saturday night and Sunday morning, delaying the start of the program briefly on Sunday to let the last bit of severe weather clear out. Ralph Nelson and Tom Clark started shooting on the opening day (Tuesday), with Ralph shooting the first five events while Tom shot all the events thru Thursday. Denny Mills joined Ralph and Tom on Wednesday and shot thru Thursday. Jud Mann, Art Jablonski, Mike Moore and Scott Calhoun started shooting on Thursday and stayed thru the completion of the program. Trophies Mike Moore and Denny Mills both brought home multiple trophies from the shoot. Denny posted a 98 from the 20-yard line in the Wednesday handicap. That put Denny in a tie for the runner-up trophy, which he won in a shoot-off at the end of the day. Denny followed that up with another trophy on Thursday, taking the D class winner s trophy in the Class Singles Championship with a 190 total score. Mike earned his first trophy on Thursday in the Director s Handicap, taking the Sub-Veteran runner-up trophy with a score of 94 from the 27-yard line. Friday s preliminary Handicap event was shot in a steady rain, and Mike shot another 94 on Friday in the preliminary Handicap, this time taking the Sub- Veteran winner s trophy. Jud Mann and Mike both had near misses for trophies. Jud also had a 94 from the 21-yard line in the Director s handicap, and was tied for high score in his yardage group but didn t participate in the shoot-off. Mike also had a 94 in Sunday s Handicap Championship which put him in a 3-way tie for Sub- Veteran runner-up. Mike posted a 24 in the shoot-off, but was edged out by a perfect score from one of the other shooters. State Team At the annual meeting of the state association on Friday night, members of the 2014 state teams were recognized. To qualify for the state team, shooters must register at least 2,500 singles targets, 2,000 handicap targets, and 1,500 doubles targets to be eligible. They must also shoot in a state zone shoot and shoot the championship events at the state shoot. The team standings are based on the shooters composite average for singles, handicap and doubles. For the third year in a row, Scott Calhoun was recognized for making the Men s team. The Men s team is made up of the top 10 male shooters in the state, age 23 to 54. Scott had a composite average of 93.13% on 3,300 singles (97.27), 3,500 handicap (88.77), and 2,500 doubles (93.36) which placed him tenth on the team. Mike Moore made the Sub-Veteran team for the first time. The Sub-Veteran team is made up of the top 5 shooters in the state, age Mike had a composite average of 93.12% on 3,700 singles (97.57), 3,500 handicap (89.80), and 2,300 doubles (92.99) which placed him fifth on the team. Special Training Session 7/19/15 I received a candidate from Jim Monk last week, from a business person associated with Kim Rhode, a famous Olympic Trap/Skeet shooter.

4 Special Training Session 7/19/15 I received a candidate from Jim Monk last week, from a business person associated with Kim Rhode, a famous Olympic Trap/Skeet shooter. This business is a sports advertising firm and the person, (Patrick) is a partner from that firm. He has a daughter who wants to be "just like Kim" and he wanted to see if we offered safety training and beginner instruction in Trap Shooting at our facility. (To see if she likes it!) I volunteered to meet with him and his daughter on Sunday. Our membership produced the 20 Ga gun, set the house, processed them, and welcomed them with great hospitality. Our club membership did a great job and was fantastic with their help and support in this effort. The "new," shooters did well on Trap 3. It was a team effort, and the "New" shooters enjoyed every minute of it. Per their wish, I am passing on the great review and thanks they offered to all. Aliana and Dave during the Training Session Dave Paulinski - Co-Chair NSC Training Committee Training Committee Update I am proud to announce that we will exceed our former record in providing training for our yearly Hunter Safety Program at the NSC. Using a different approach in instruction that requires only one day of classroom instruction and testing, we will process 109 Candidates / students for the Illinois Hunter Safety Certifications this year. Thanks to our volunteers and members who helped out, this is a 41% improvement over previous years. I would also like to take a moment to thank all our members and staff for making all the improvements and support to our Trap Fundamentals Class, Program. With the new materials we are using and the class structure, we are getting fantastic responses from the students. Many are returning to shoot at our club and invest in membership. I have been asked by several members if we will be offering a Range Safety Officer Class, Shotgun Instructor class, or Conceal Carry Class, to the membership in the future. I would be happy to put one of these into effect provided we have at least 15 students minimum for the RSO and Shotgun Instructor classes. The Conceal Carry classes are usually formed once a year. If demand warrants it, we can form more. Note: All classes are provided to the membership and their immediate families at a much discounted rate. This service is provided Exclusively as an education program for our members, and is offered at cost. Any members interested, can contact me at the following: nonails@sbcglobal.net or ( Leave a message) Finally, I am happy to announce that, I have been asked to become a Master Hunter Safety Instructor, 3 years ahead of the normal standard, due to the amount of classes I have provided and / or worked with other instructors on in the past two years. I have accepted this office to bring more tools, and resources to our club in the future. I have also been invited by the NRA to enroll in their Training Counselor program for next year. This will provide our club with my certification to teach any NRA Classes available from the NRA. She shot 16/15 in the finals In addition American Thomas Bayer won Gold in Men's Skeet. Many other Americans also won in different disciplines ranging from shotgun to airgun. A California native, she is a five-time Olympic medal winner, including three gold medals, and six-time national champion in double trap. She is the most successful female shooter at the Olympics as the only triple Olympic Champion and is the only woman to have won two Olympic gold medals for Double Trap.
