2 Club News Capital Improvement Projects: The club is moving forward with the following Capital Improvement Projects: -New Clubhouse Solid Steel Buildings, Inc., a Pittsburgh based company, was chosen to to erect the building foundation and shell plus exterior finishes. Construction will start once final per mitting has been completed. DMSCI MEMBERS WHO ARE LICENSED and INSURED CONTRAC- TORS: As most of our members probably know by now we are getting ready to kick off our new building project. If there are any DMSCI members who are presently a licensed and insured contractor that wish to bid portions of the work involved with the new building please let us know. We will be looking for electrical contractors, framing and interior finishing contractors (drywall and painting), plumbing and heating contractors. Please send an with your firms name and what type of work your company performs. If any member is qualified and interested please send your companies information by to our 19dmscinduction@gmail.com Swap Table: Swap tables will be available during the monthly meetings in February, May, August, and October starting at 6pm. Spent Brass Needed: The VFW James Perry Post 191 in Canonsburg is looking for donations of used brass to help fund the Honor Guard for performing full military honors for our fallen brothers and sisters at the time of their burial. Brass is polished and presented in honor of their loved ones. If you are able to donate any used brass, please contact bandrews@comcast.net Tree Planting: The Board has approved the purchase of 30 Dunstan Chestnut trees for planting on Club grounds during the work parties. Dunstan Chestnuts are known to be resistant to the blight afflicting other chestnuts Range Cleanup: Please remember to exercise the Pack it in, pack it out rule whenever at any of the ranges. Anything you bring to shoot should be removed when you are done and not left for someone else to clean up. Thanks for helping keep the club and its ranges clean and ready for the next shooter. American Flag Retirement: The Club will start collecting American Flags needing retired during the monthly membership meetings. Lost and Found: A reusable target was found on the Plinking Range. First line fires at 7pm indoors, and 6pm outdoors This fires the 4th Saturday of the month at 9 AM. April September George Taylor (412) The Civilian Marksmanship Program rifle matches occur the third Sunday of every month January - October. Matches begin at 11 AM. 200 yard match season begins March 8. Matches begin at 9 AM. March - October Our champion smallbore team practices every Sunday at 7 PM Trap shooting occurs every Tuesday starting at 6pm. The season runs April - October The season runs January - March. The shooters participate and shoot concurrent with the indoor open shoots on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday This program typically takes place in June and November. Any centerfire original military rifle with original open sights, no scopes, manufactured prior to January 1, 1946 and in safe shooting condition. 4 Black Powder BLACK POWDER SURVEY METALIC CARTRIDGE AND MUZZLE-LOADING SPORT- ING ARMS The Black Powder Committee of the DMSC is currently conducting a survey to determine the total number of members that are interested in becoming part of the Black Powder Fraternity. This discipline will include the use of flint and percussion as well as metallic cartridge rifles, pistols and shotguns from the earliest colonial era through all of America s military engagements from the French and Indian War, our American Revolution, War of 1812, Mexican War, the American Civil War, and the Western American Indian conflicts Whether you patch a round ball, load a military minie ball, shoot a modern inline or a black powder cartridge gun, we would like to see you on the range as a shooter or a competitor. If you would like to demonstrate your competitive spirit with the use of these antiques or exercise your hidden enthusiasm for black powder, your participation is welcome. 6 ARC Rifle Clinic Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen s Club is sponsoring an AR Rifle Clinic in conjunction with the America s Rifle Challenge (ARC) Program. This clinic is designed for shooters of all ages (14+) and will be geared toward those with little or no experience using the AR Rifle Platform. NRA Certified Instructors and RSO s will provide instruction on safe gun handling, introduction to action rifle skills, dry fire practice, and several stages of live fire. This clinic will progress at a slow enough pace for participants to gain an introduction to action rifle match protocol and develop a comfortable level of operation with the AR Rifle. The round count to be fired only provides each participant a minimal opportunity to incorporate the instruction and dry fire practice with a live fire opportunity. To gain further confidence from this activity, participants are highly encouraged to sign up for an ARC Basic Match. Date: Saturday April 13, 2019 Time: 8:00 to 12:00 Cost: $5 for DMLSC members; $10 for non-members. Live Fire Portion Course of Fire : 44 rounds total Stage 1: 100 yds. Prone: Fire four shots, reload, and fire four shots. Stage 2: 50 yds. Kneeling: Fire four shots. Stage 3: 50 yds. Sitting: Fire four shots. Stage 4: 50 yds. Prone: (support shoulder) Fire four shots. Stage 5: 50 yds. Standing: (From behind the barricade) Fire four shots. Stage 6: 25 yds Standing: Fire four shots at lower A-Zone, reload, fire four shots at upper A-Zone. Stage 7: 7 yds. Standing: Fire two shots at lower A-Zone, fire one shot at upper A Zone for both left and right targets, reload, repeat sequence. Rifle Categories: Iron Sights: a rifle that has only iron sights Optics Limited: a rifle that has only a non-magnified optic, such as ACOG, EoTech, Red Dot, etc. Back up iron sights are allowed. Optics Open: a maximum of two optic sights with a maximum of one being magnified. All NRA Safety Rules and DMLSC Rules apply. Classroom instruction and dry fire practice begins promptly at 8:00 followed by live fire. The class will be conducted rain or shine! Bring your cased rifle to the clubhouse at registration, but leave all ammo in your vehicle. Eye/Ear Protection and Empty Chamber Indicators are mandatory (ECI s are available for a $1 charge). Rifles need to be Zeroed for 100 yards prior to the match. No spotting scopes or shooting jackets. Shooting mats are allowed. Rifles should have attached slings capable of being worn across the back (but not mandatory). Competitors should have a minimum of 2 magazines and need to carry them on the person using a bandoleer, pouch, pocket, or similar device. Bring additional ammunition above the required number of rounds. No AP or incendiary ammunition is permitted. Space is limited to 12 shooting positions. 7 ARC - Basic Rifle Match As part of the (ARC) Program, DMSC will conduct a Basic Rifle Match, which is intended for shooters with little or no experience in Action Rifle events. Participants learn match protocols, practice marksmanship skills, and develop confidence all while maintaining a comfortable pace. All live fire is conducted concurrently. This Basic Match can serve as a requirement to continue participation in other ARC events conducted at DMSC. NOTE: This will be the only Basic Match offered in Date: Saturday May 11, 2019 Time: 7 AM 12 PM Cost: $5 for DMLSC members; $10 for non-members. Basic Match Course of Fire : 72 rounds total (+ 6 Optional Rounds) Stage 1: 100 yds. Prone: Fire five shots, reload, and fire five shots. Stage 2: 100 yds. Kneeling: Fire five shots, reload, and fire five shots. Stage 3: 50 yds. Sitting: Fire five shots. Stage 4: 50 yds. Prone: (support shoulder) Fire five shots. Stage 5: 50 yds. Standing: (behind barricade) Fire five shots. Stage 5a: 50 yds. Kneeling: (behind barricade) Fire five shots. Stage 6: 25 yds. Standing: Fire five shots lower, reload, fire five shots upper. ** Stage 6 is a magazine retention stage** Stage 7: Stage 8: 7 yds. Standing: Fire five shots left target, fire five shots right target. 7 yds. Standing: Fire two shots lower, fire one shot upper at both left and right targets, reload, repeat sequence. Optional Stage 100 yds. - At shooter s discretion, you may remain after the match and fire 6 additional rounds from the prone position at two steel targets. 8 ARC - Advanced Rifle Match As part of the Program, DMSC will conduct the first of two Advanced Rifle Matches. Intended for experienced action rifle shooters, competitors will be required to change firing positions, move through multiple firing points and reload against the clock. Assignments will be made to relays comprised of 5 shooters. Date: Saturday May 4, 2019 Pre-requisites: Previous participation in a DMSC Basic Match or other experience as determined by the match director. Time: 7 AM 12 PM Cost: $5 for DMLSC members; $10 for non-members. Advanced Match Course of Fire : 91 rounds total Stage 1: 50 yds. Fire two shots standing, three shots kneeling, and five shots prone. Stage 2: 50 yds. From behind a barricade, fire five shots standing, reload, and then fire five shots kneeling. Stage 3: 10 yds. Fire seven shots at an action swinger target. Stage 4: 100 yds. From the prone position, fire seven shots at various steel and paper targets. Stage 5: 25 yds. From behind a barricade fire four shots standing, reload, and then fire four more shots. Stage 6: 25 yds. Fire four shots and move to the barricade. Reload. Fire four shots through a barricade portal. Reload. Fire four more shots through a different barricade portal. Stage 7: 7 yds. Fire six shots from behind a bunker. Stage 8: 7 yds. Fire eight two targets using the support side and strong side Stage 9: 7 yds. 9 ARC Plus 2-Gun Match As part of the Program, DMSC will conduct the first of two 2-Gun Matches. Competitors will be required to change firing positions, move through multiple firing points and reload against the clock. Stages will consist of rifle only, pistol only, and transitioning from one firearm to the other. Squading assignments will be made comprising of 5 shooters. Date: Saturday, June 8, 2019 Pre-requisites: Previous participation in a DMSC Advanced Match Time: 7:15 AM Cost: $5 for DMLSC members; $10 for non-members. 2 Gun Course of Fire : Total rounds 77 Rifle / 69 Pistol Stage 1: 50 yds. (Rifle Only) Fire two shots standing, three shots kneeling, and five shots prone. Stage 2: 25 yds. (Pistol Only) From behind a barricade, fire four shots standing, reload, then fire four shots kneeling. Stage 3: 10 yds. (Transition Rifle to Pistol) Standing - Using the rifle, fire a maximum of seven shots. Using the pistol, fire a maximum of thirteen shots. Both steel and action targets are used. Stage 4: 100 yds. (Rifle Only) Prone: Fire a maximum of fourteen shots, alternating between steel and paper targets placed at100 yards. Stage 5: 25 yds. (Transition Rifle to Pistol) Starting with the rifle fire eight shots at two targets including a reload. From behind the barricade using the pistol, fire eight shots at two targets including a reload. Stage 6: 25 yds. (Transition Pistol to Rifle) Starting with the pistol, fire twelve shots at two targets including a reload. From behind the barricade using the rifle, fire twelve shots through two different portals, at two targets including a reload. Stage 7: 25 yds. (Transition Pistol to Rifle) Starting with the pistol fire at four (4) steel targets. Transitioning to the rifle, shooter will fire three rounds standing and three rounds kneeling over top of a bunker. Stage 8a: 7 yds. (Pistol Only) Standing using the Support Hand Only, fire four shots. Stage 8b: 7 yds. (Rifle Only) Standing using the Support Shoulder, fire four shots. Stage 9: 7 yds. (Transition Rifle to Pistol) Starting with the rifle fire twelve shots at two targets including a reload. Transition to Pistol and fire twelve shots at two targets including a reload. Firearm Categories: Iron Sights: a rifle or pistol that has only iron sights Optics Limited: a rifle that has only a non-magnified optic, such as ACOG, EoTech, Red Dot, etc. ; a pistol that has only a non-magnified optic, such as a Red Dot, laser, etc. Optics Open: a rifle with a maximum of two optic sights with only one being magnified. Participants must have participated in a DMSC Advanced Match. All NRA Safety Rules and DMLSC Rules apply. Competitors need to attend a mandatory safety briefing and must arrive at the designated time of their assigned squading. Keep all rifles and pistols cased and in your vehicles until instructed to bring them to the firing line. Eye/Ear Protection and Empty Chamber Indicators are mandatory (ECI s are available for a $1 charge). Rifles need to be Zeroed for 100 yards prior to the match. No spotting scopes, shooting mats, or shooting jackets are permitted. Rifles need to have attached slings capable of being worn across the back. Pistols must be a semi-automatic of 9 mm caliber (or higher) and securely carried in exterior holster (OWB). Competitors should have a minimum of 3 magazines for the rifle and 3 magazines for the pistol and will need to carry them in a bandoleer, pouch, pocket, or similar device on the person for each stage. No incendiary ammunition. All stages utilizing steel targets - Lead core ammunition only, no armor piercing (AP), no solid or partial core ammunition containing steel or any metal other than lead. 10 ARC Plus Pistoleer Match As part of the Program, DMSC will conduct the first of two Pistoleer Matches. Pistoleer Match?? Just what is a Pistoleer Match? If you have been shooting down on the lower ranges, then you are a Pistoleer and this first time ever match may be something of interest to you. Participants will compete in seven pistol only stages firing at paper, steel, and motion targets. This is an action pistol match and the course of fire entails modern day defensive shooting skills involving distances from 5 to 30 feet, multiple targets, barricades, several reloads, and a whole lot of fun. Date: Sunday, June 30, 2019 Time: 8 AM Cost: $5 for DMLSC members; $10 for non-members. Pistoleer Course of Fire : Total rounds - 79 Stage 1: 5+ feet. Fire four shots from the kneeling position and twelve shots from the standing position using four different target stands, three reloads and the use of a barricade. Stage 2: 30+ feet. Fire up to ten shots at the dueling tree. Stage 3: 20+ feet. Fire twelve shots at four different targets with a reload. Stage 4: 30+ feet. Fire up to ten shots at a steel plate rack. Stage 5: 5+ feet. Fire twelve shots at three different targets, three reloads, and the use of a barricade. Stage 6: 30+ feet. Fire up to eight shots at a double swinger action target including a No-Shoot target. Stage 7: 30+ feet. Fire up to eleven shots at several steel targets and a pop up paper target with a reload. ** Note: The actual stages are more robust than this brief description. After signing up for the match, a full detailed description will be sent along with other important information. ** Firearm Categories: Iron Sights: a pistol that has only iron sights Optics: a pistol that has only an optic, such as a Red Dot, laser, etc. Pistol Types: semi-automatic, double action revolver (DA), single action revolver (SA) While there are no pre-requisites, this match will not involve any instruction and participants should possess safe pistol handling skills. All NRA Safety Rules and DMLSC Rules apply. Competitors need to attend a mandatory safety briefing conducted at the clubhouse. Keep all pistols cased and in your vehicles until instructed to bring them to the lower ranges. Eye/Ear Protection is mandatory. Calibers from 9 mm through 45LC are allowed, but no magnums. All pistols must be securely carried in an exterior holster. The match will be conducted as an individual utilizing a shot timer. Scoring will be a combination of speed and accuracy. All stages will begin from the low-ready position. Competitors should have a minimum of 3 magazines for the semi-automatic pistols, and will need to carry them on the person for each live fire stage. While primarily designed for semi-automatic pistols, participants using DA or SA revolvers may experience longer run times due to reloading, but will still get to enjoy the same marksmanship challenge and fun. No incendiary ammunition. All stages utilizing steel targets - Lead core ammunition only, no armor piercing (AP), no solid or partial core ammunition containing steel or any metal other than lead. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. ALWAYS keep firearms unloaded until ready to use. ALWAYS unload, remove the magazine, and open the action of a firearm when someone is going down range. NEVER handle firearms while someone is down range. ALWAYS wear proper eye and ear protection at the range. DMSC Conducts Safety Reviews Range Safety Officers (RSOs) will conduct random membership checks and safety reviews. RSOs will meet with members and guests while at the firing range. Membership ID s will be checked and a copy of the range rules will be made available. It s important for all members to review safe gun handling procedures and to focus on the safety rules for each range used. The RSOs will be a wearing a distinctive safety vest or hat and will only ask for a few minutes of your time. Guests and Visitors are subject to the same rules as members. Violators will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from club grounds and termination of membership.
