1 The First Shots of the War Turkmenistan is one of the Western oalition s few remaining sources for oil. The refineries in the region have immense value to the countries of the coalition, and that is why the Stray Dogs have been deployed to keep the area stable. Turkmenistan has been friendly to western interests since If the last revolution hadn t been successful, the country would still be tied to the Red Star Alliance, and extreme diplomatic efforts have been taken by these eastern nations to get Turkmenistan back in their pocket. Diplomacy has failed. Now, Red Star infantry and light armored vehicles are pouring into the country at high speed. Heavier cavalry units and air support are likely to follow without much delay. There isn t going to be any fire support, backup, or even much contact from other Western oalition groups. The Stray Dogs are going to be outnumbered, isolated, and under fire from the moment they hit the ground, and you have no choice but to give it your all if you want to survive. Pick up your assault rifle and stay low. The oil refineries need to be kept clear of Red Star forces for as long as possible. 3 SEURE RASH SITE KILL THE ATTAKING RED STAR FORES Your first major objective is to clear away several waves of Red Star attackers. Your helicopter has crashed on the eastern side of the small, refining town. You can complete your goal by moving west to find cover and staying there until you have defeated all incoming enemy troops. You can also hop over the barricades and take the enemy soldiers on at close range. This type of maverick behavior is much more likely to get you killed, but it is fun to try, especially at the lower difficulty levels. In multiplayer matches you are less likely to succeed with such a simple, aggressive ploy, but it s okay to be a bit crazy here. Using the Minigun Another crash site strategy is getting on the helicopter There are always several ways to get things done, and you are free to choose the path that best fits your play style. The easiest method for clearing the attackers is to use the walls to the west for cover. There is a position that overlooks the street below. Skilled shooters are able to take down the Red Star troops so quickly that they don t have time to settle down and return fire. However, you might still be getting your bearings. If too many Red Star soldiers arrive and make it to cover, you should consider taking them out with grenades. Practice lobbing grenades over enemy cover. Your foes can crouch and hide all they want, because a fragmentation grenade to the back will turn anyone into sauce. No cover is perfect! 4 SEURE ARMORY AND DESTROY THE AA EMPLAEMENT Ammo rates are your friend There are numerous crates on the battlefield with yellow markings on top of them. Above these crates is a blue icon APTURE THE EASTERN SITE AND DESTROY THE WESTERN ONE with several bullets. These are crates of ammunition! After the crash zone is secure, command updates you on the enemy positions in the area. There is an armory on the eastern side of town, and the Russians are setting up an anti-aircraft emplacement on the western side. Thankfully, neither of these positions is terribly far from your current one. For a very smooth run, lay siege to the armory, then go after the AA site. running up to these crates. Don t risk your safety or the lives of your squad mates just to save a few shots for later. There is a time and place for conservation, but the battlefield is bad on both accounts. THE ARMORY Making your way west toward either point is fairly straight forward. You can take either of the major roads leading away from the crash (on the east or west side). There is also a smaller alley area between the rows of buildings. Enemy soldiers are waiting in ambush along all of these routes, so keep an eye on the area ahead of your squad while you move. If anyone pops out to attack you, take cover and zoom in for precise return fire. Or, if the enemies are especially close, fire without zooming. Keep behind cover while making your approach, and use the grenade attachment of your Arc3 to destroy the G It may take at least a couple shots, so you may only want to leave cover for a brief moment to make your attack, then hide again while reloading your launcher. Once the G2 550 is destroyed, make your assault on the armory building. Look for the entrance to the structure on its eastern side. There is an ammo crate just a bit inside the building, followed by a long corridor. Advance slowly and eliminate any guards that come forward. At the end of the corridor is a small room with a computer terminal. Walk up to the terminal and use it to capture the armory walk01.indd 113 2/8/08 4:43:45 PM
5 If you are interrupted during the capture, turn to fight off any remaining soldiers. After the area is clear, try to use the terminal again. These active captures require that you fully complete the process before the control point switches over to your side. DESTROYING THE AA GUN A BTR 110 arrives as you finish your work inside the armory. Search the inside of the building for a Red Star SAAT1 guided missile launcher (it s just outside the terminal room). Pick this up on your way out and use two shots to dispatch the enemy vehicle. It is easier to take the AA Gun out of commission after the armory is under your control. The reason is tactical; while approaching from the eastern side of town you can swing deeper into enemy territory and hit the AA site from its back. If you try to walk along the western road directly toward the AA site things can become painful! There are many soldiers at ground level that guard the site, and one trooper on top of the building has a missile launcher. Very few of these enemies have a good line-of-sight if you swing west and hug the building during your approach. Gun down any of the soldiers that file around the edge of the building, then use the corner for cover while clearing out any stragglers. Sprint up the stairs to the upper ledge of the building and shoot the launcher-wielding soldier before he has time to turn and attack. Afterward, approach the AA emplacement and take the time to properly set your explosive charge on it. As before, you must repeat the process if you move before it completes. You have ten seconds to hurry away from the AA emplacement after the charge is set. You don t need to get too far away, but you might as well hop back onto the stairs and sprint down to the ground. Make sure there are no enemy soldiers nearby (kill any that are), and wait for your next set of instructions walk01.indd 114 2/8/08 4:44:15 PM
