Your laser could pulse even when not installed and could cause eye damage! **NEVER use any other compressed air or gas within this system!! For safety reasons, it is designed to use CO 2 only! **BEFORE returning your gun to normal operating condition, ALWAYS ensure the CO 2 has been purged from the barrel. This is achieved by inserting the in. Allen wrench into the fill tip to purge the barrel. WE RECOMMEND SAFETY GLASSES FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS All participants (including instructors, students and any onlookers) should wear safety glasses whenever using and/ or handling the CoolFire kit. DO NOT LOOK INTO THE LASER APERTURE OR GUN BARREL. DO NOT AIM THE FIREARM OF THE LASER AT PEOPLE. IT IS ILLEGAL TO AIM LASERS AT AIRPLANES OR MOVING VEHICLES. Complies with FDA performance standards for laser products except for deviations pursuant to Laser Notice No. 50, dated: July 26, CoolFire 9402 W. 55th Street Tulsa, Ok This notice must be placed in plain view of all users of CoolFire recoil systems with lasers. 2

CoolFire Installation and Operation 1. Verify the chamber is clear of your firearm. 2. Remove any ammunition and ensure the magazine is empty. Store any ammunition and any removed parts, to pre-vent loss or damage. 3. Following the firearm manufacturer s instructions, remove the slide, barrel, and recoil spring.(figure 1). Figure Place a small amount of Teflon grease on the CoolFire barrel where it comes into contact with the slide. Do this each time you install the CoolFire barrel into your weapon (Figure 2). 5. Insert the CoolFire barrel into your slide (Figure 3). 6. Install the CoolFire recoil spring on the factory guide rod or use the supplied guide rod ensuring that the flat end contacts the barrel (see Figure 4). Figure 2. Figure Reinstall your slide onto your weapon (Figure 5). If the slide will not lock to the frame with the CoolFire barrel installed, push on the tip of the CoolFire barrel. Note: Do not use the stock recoil spring with the CoolFire barrel, it will not function properly! Figure 4. WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL THE RECOIL SPRING ASSEMBLY BACK- WARDS. IT MAY DAMAGE THE COOL- FIRE BARREL. 5 Figure 5.
Smith & Wesson and Select Sig Sauer Models only: ***Due to inherent frame variability on handguns from these manufacturers, the CoolFire barrel includes an adjustable wedge that allows the barrel to be fine-fitted to the frame to minimize slack. 1. Install the CoolFire barrel and spring. Rack the slide slowly, watch to determine whether there is interference between the CoolFire block and the slide. If there is, use the supplied Allen wrench to adjust the wedge in the barrel block (Fig. 6). *Adjust only enough to minimize the interference or drag between the CoolFire barrel/barrel block and the slide. 2. To verify proper fit, lock the CoolFire barrel into your firearm (Figure 7), there should be only minimal play of the red block up and down and front an back (see red arrows). Some pivoting is normal (green arrow). Figure 4. Figure 4. *You should only need to use your fingertips when rotating the takedown latch into the lock position (Figure 8). **After adjustment, rack the slide slowly. Repeat these steps until satisfactory. 3. If using your magazine during training, you can install the slide release insert into your magazine as shown. (Figure 9). 4. Insert the magazine and cycle the slide to ensure it does not lock back. Figure 4. Figure 4. Note: Do not use the stock recoil spring with the CoolFire barrel, it will not function properly! WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL THE RECOIL SPRING ASSEMBLY BACKWARDS. IT MAY DAMAGE THE COOLFIRE BARREL. 6
Charging your CoolFire Kit 1. Apply a small amount of Teflon grease to the fill tip in end of the barrel. Do this before each use to ensure proper lubrication of the system (Figure 10). If you hear a gas leak, refer to the Troubleshooting part of this manual. 2. Using GLOVES thread your CO 2 bottle into your CO 2 adapter. Once it has pressurized, continue to turn 1/4 turn. Figure 10. As per Figure 11, there are 3 types: A) 90 gram CO 2 Cartridge Adapter B) 20 oz. CO 2 Tank Adapter C) CoolFire CO 2 Charging station, which can be used with or without the provided table clamp. Figure Ensure that the CO 2 bottle is held vertical(+/-45 degrees), align the fill tip with the fill nose on the fill adapter. (Figure 12). Press the fill tip into the fill nose for 1-2 seconds. You will hear a small pop sound upon release, indicating a successful charge. Repeat once for an optimal CO 2 charge. NOTE: The bottle must be positioned upside down (+/- 45 degrees) with the charging adapter at the bottom to ensure proper charging of liquid CO 2 into the CoolFire barrel. WARNING: SEE THE LASER INFOR- MATION PAGE IN THIS MANUAL. Figure Thread the laser into the muzzle end of the CoolFire barrel until snug (Figure 13). 7 Figure 13.
Laser adjustment WARNING: PREVENT DAMAGING YOUR LASER OR BARREL, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE LASER. The CoolFire laser has been aligned to the barrel at the factory. You can adjust for point of impact via the 4 set screws in the laser bezel (Figure 14). Suggested re-zeroing procedure Figure 14. You will need: in/1.25 mm Allen wrench Medium strength thread locker compound (NOTE: We use Loctite 222MC). Target provided in kit Using the in/1.25 mm Allen wrench provided, completely unscrew one set screw from the laser bezel. Dip the set screw into the thread locker liquid. Screw the set screw back into the bezel. Repeat for all 4 set screws. For convenience and precision, dry fire only (i.e. do not charge your CoolFire barrel with CO2; only rack the slide and pull trigger). Aim at your target. Carefully pull the trigger and a observe the impact point of your laser. Adjust the zero on your laser using the set screws as required loosen a set screw, then tighten the opposing screw. Allow the thread locker to cure following the manufacturer s instructions (24 hours for Loctite 222MC) before recoil training with CoolFire. Your CoolFire system is now ready for training! WARNING: DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE SET SCREWS. THIS WILL DAMAGE THE BEZEL AND/OR LASER. 8
Striker Inspection and Wear Old Model Striker Your CoolFire kit will eventually experience normal wear and tear. After several thousand cycles, the repeated impacts of your gun s firing pin against the CoolFire striker will expand a crater in the striker(- Figure 15). The striker is made of a relatively soft metal to keep your gun s firing pin healthy for as long as possible. You can perform two tests to determine if your striker needs replacing. Figure 15. WARNING ENSURE THAT YOUR COOLFIRE KIT IS NOT PRESSURIZED WHILE PRE- FORMING ANY KIND OF MAINTENANCE, INCLUDING THESE TWO TESTS. While wearing suitable protective gear (safety glasses and gloves), insert the in/1.25 mm Allen wrench into the fill tip and push to release any pressurized CO 2 that may be in the barrel. A new striker rests approximately flush with the edge of the piston, and has an evenly round dimple. Function Test #1: Swing Out (Figure 16), the Striker easily slides out of the block with a gentle whipping motion, and slides back without Figure 16. friction. Function Test #2: Push and Bounce: (Figure 17) When depressed with the tip of a pen, the striker pushes in easily and bounces back. A worn out striker rests below the edge of the sleeve; the dimple has become a crater, doesn t slide out easily/at all, doesn t bounce back easily or at all in Test #2 (Figure 17). Figure 17. A heavily worn striker will need to be replaced. Contact us for service. 9
Striker Inspection and Wear New Model Striker Your new model striker will experience similar wear and tear as the previous model. The user-replacable tip makes maintenance easy. After several thousand cycles, the repeated impacts of your gun s firing pin against the CoolFire striker tip will expand a crater in the plastic tip(figure 18). Figure 18. You can perform the same two tests to determine if your striker needs replacing. Replacing the Striker Tip Remove CoolFire from pistol. Purge CO 2 as per instructions. Figure 19. Grasp old tip with pliers(figure 19). Unscrew or rock back and forth until free, discard(figure 20). Align Striker over new tip, placed on hard flat surface(figure 21). Figure 20. With pliers, press or screw striker into tip until seated completely(figure 22) Additional tips are available from our website. Figure Figure 22.
Maintenance Storage NOTE applies to paintball bottles only; not applicable to pierced disposable CO 2 cartridges any remaining CO 2 will leak out if disconnected (Figure 18). For storage (1 week or more), we recommended you remove your CO 2 Adapter (20 oz. or Charging Station) from the paintball bottle. Figure 18. WARNING: Glasses and Gloves are recommended for safety. O-ring replacement Please note that some CoolFire fill devices have a spare O-ring on them(figure 19). Spare O-rings are also provided in the Care Kit. 1. Remove and discard the old O-ring from the CO 2 bottle. 2. Remove O-ring from device or Care Kit. Figure Install on bottle. 4. Apply a small amout of Teflon grease. 11
Maintenance Fill Nose gasket replacement Each Fill Device has a gasket that will eventually need replacing. If you hear a slow hissing sound from the fill nose area, disconnect your CO 2 bottle. WARNING: WE RECOMMEND EYE PRO- TECTION AND GLOVES FOR PURGING BOTTLES TO AVOID ANY RISK OF FREEZING AND/ OR IMPACT INJURY. NOTE: A 90 gram CO 2 cartridge cannot be resealed. You can either use it up or purge the remaining CO 2 by inserting the Allen wrench into the fill nose. To replace the gasket on your fill device, you will need: A) A new 7mm black gasket from your Care Kit B) A 9mm open-end wrench C) A wood screw D) Teflon grease Figure 20. Figure 21. Figure 22. Figure Using a 9mm wrench, remove the fill nose (Figure 20). 2. Remove parts inside the fill nose (Figure21). 3. Insert wood screw, lodge into inner gasket, pull free (Figure 22, 23). 4. Press new gasket into fill nose (figure 24). Figure
Fill Nose gasket replacement 5. Insert steel ball into brass spacer as shown (Figure 25). 6. Use Brass spacer to press gasket into fill nose (Figure 26, 27). Maintenance 7. Reinstall fill nose onto fill adapter (Figure 28). Figure Lubricate inner fill nose with Teflon grease. WARNING: Do not over-tighten fill nose. The above procedure applies to all three adapter types. Figure 26. Figure 27. Figure
Troubleshooting Charging / Weak Recoil CoolFire will not charge, does not produce sufficient shots after charging, or produces inconsistent recoil. This can have several causes. The following test will narrow down the cause. With a weighing scale, test to verify CO 2 charge amount. You will need a weighing scale with sensitivity to 0.1 grams, which is capable of weighing your gun or CoolFire kit. We suggest performing this test with a new disposable 3.2 oz. / 90 gram CO 2 cartridge (shipped pre-filled) or a newly filled (with Liquid/gas mix) refillable CO 2 tank. 1. Purge the Coolfire barrel of CO 2 by using the in Allen wrench by pressing it into fill tip. 2. Place your converted gun or barrel on the weighing scale (Figure 29). 3. Zero the weighing scale to your empty converted gun (Figure 30). Figure Charge your converted firearm or barrel with CO Weigh again. (Figure 31). Each gram of CO 2 in the CoolFire barrel yields 7 shots. This is a rule of thumb, and not an exact number. Overall mass and volume may influence this number and will change with temperature. Please note that the CO 2 capacity of each CoolFire kit is determined by the internal volume of the barrel. You can expect the following approximate weights: 14 Figure 28. Figure 28.
Troubleshooting Charging / Weak Recoil Cont. Small-volume CoolFire barrels : Minimum 2 grams of CO 2 (e.g. Sig 220/226/229, CZ-75, Smith & Wesson M&P Shield, etc.) Medium-volume CoolFire barrels: Minimum 3 grams of CO 2 (e.g. Glock 17/22, Beretta 92/M9, etc.) Large-volume CoolFire barrels Minimum 4 grams of CO 2 (e.g. Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm 5 inch, Glock 34/35, etc.) If you are not getting the charged results listed above, you are not getting an adequate charge for your CO 2 bottle. This is usually an insufficient fill of the CO 2 bottle itself from your CO 2 supplier. Please consider the following: Ensure that you are holding the CO 2 bottle upside down, plus or minus about 45 degrees to ensure that liquid CO 2 fills the CoolFire barrel. To sufficiently charge the CoolFire barrel, push the fill tip into the CoolFire Fill Adapter or Charging Station for 1 to 2 seconds. You should hear a slight pop when you pull the tip away from the Charging Device. Pressure and temperature can impact the performance of CO 2. If the CoolFire barrel becomes too cold (often due to repeated rapid shooting), or if the CO 2 charge bottle gets cold, less CO 2 may be charged into the CoolFire barrel, resulting in fewer shots. Allow the CoolFire barrel and/or the CO 2 bottle to warm up slightly. Indications that a CO 2 bottle is empty, or nearing empty: An empty aluminum 20 oz. bottle should weigh approximately 1 lb. 8 oz. (850 grams). When filled, it should weigh approximately 3 lbs. (1450g). An empty aluminum 24 oz. bottle should weigh approximately 2 lbs. (907 grams). When filled, it should weigh approximately 3 lbs. 4 oz. (1500 grams). 15
Troubleshooting CO2 leaking from CoolFire barrel The barrel may have become unthreaded from the barrel block. Hand tighten the barrel to the barrel block. If the barrel loosens frequently, apply a drop of Loctite Thread Locker Blue 242 to the barrel thread. Do not completely remove the barrel. Simply unscrew it to expose the top couple of threads and apply the drop of Loctite. Ensure that lubrication is applied as outlined in the Maintenance section to keep the CoolFire seals and O-rings lubricated. Damage to the seals and/or O-ring may result in leakage. If tightening the barrel does not resolve the issue, a seal and O-ring maintenance kit may be required (available for purchase from us). LASER IS INCONSISTENT This can have several causes: Laser is not fully seated in the barrel. Ensure that the laser is fully seated against the barrel by hand-tightening. WARNING: DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR LASER! Laser adjustment screws have loosened. Using your in/1.25 mm Allen wrench, tighten the adjustment screws to snug only. WARNING: DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR LASER! Check the laser point of impact, and adjust the screws as required to zero the laser with your sights. Batteries are drained: Batteries are not making adequate contact. Ensure that the laser bezel is tight against the laser housing. Handtighten only. Do not over-tighten! The laser has become damaged and inoperable. Contact CoolFire for additional troubleshooting information. 16
