4 Leading shooting performance for 188 years The founding Eley brothers, Charles and William Eley, started manufacturing shotgun cartridges in 1828 and produced shotgun cartridges of distinction. The company still manufactures cartridges in the UK, drawing on the rich heritage of outstanding performance. From the award winning Grand Prix cartridges from 1903 to the modern trap, skeet and sporting clay cartridges, Eley Hawk still produce market-leading cartridges. 4

5 The first factory was opened in Old Bond Street, London, by Charles and William Eley to produce the Jenour wire enclosed shot cartridge. William Thomas Eley takes out patent 2487 for combustible paper cartridges. Eley introduce the breech loading pin fire cartridge shell. The famous EBL shield is trademarked to mark out cartridges of distinction. Eley wins awards with the Pegamoid at the Paris exhibition The Grand Prix cartridge is launched following the awards in Paris. This becomes the benchmark in cartridges for the future. The Eley company was so successful it was acquired by Nobel Industries. Eley introduce the first Special Trap shooting cartridge to respond to the rise of clay trap shooting (this naturally arose as a sport, due to the decline of wild bird game shooting post World War I as bird numbers dropped). Eley pioneers the first plastic shotgun cartridge. The Eley Kleena fibre based wad starts its life, and is a unique development in cartridges as it cleans out the leading in shotgun barrels when fired ESTABLISHED The Eley name lives on through the formation of Imperial Chemicals Industry (ICI) Ltd. As part of the ICI group Eley continues to thrive as a brand to the present. The first plastic cartridge makes it to market after developments in polymer technology at ICI. Eley Ltd purchases Hawk Best Ammunition and moves production from Witton to Marchington. Eley Hawk company formed and production returns to Witton site. Eley Hawk sold to UEE (now Maxam Group). The company goes from strength to strength in Minworth, the home of Eley to the present day. 5
