2 The was founded in 1967 by a group of individuals interested in the collection, preservation, and application of all categories of arms, from bayonet and Samurai swords, antique and modern military arms and accoutrements to black powder muzzleloaders. CHAS is a duly authorized society under the Alberta Societies Act.
3 The general objectives and purposes of the society are: To provide to members of the society a means whereby members of the society may gather to discuss the artifacts in which they are interested; To encourage the safe handling of and respect for arms; To further the knowledge of the members of the society as to the history of the arms and their restoration and maintenance; To promote recreational and social activities among the members of the society; To promote public awareness of the historical value of arms; To ensure that the above objectives are met, the club provides a meeting place where members can pursue their interests, discuss the merits of firearms and to swap, trade or sell their collectibles.

11 Regulations and Rules located within this document are transcribed or derived from, but not limited to, the following sources: Development Permit D from the County of Leduc for the Canadian Historical Arms Range located at Genesee The Alberta Societies Act (CHAS) Bylaws
12 1. The development and operations of this range SHALL comply with all regulations, standards, and guidelines of all governmental institutions and agencies affected. 2. There SHALL be no parking of motor vehicles within the county road allowance. 3. No firearms discharge SHALL take place outside of the designated area. 4. No overnight camping allowed. 5. The hours of operations SHALL be restricted to a period commencing 7am or one hour after sunrise (whichever is later) and concluding one hour before sunset. 6. The facility will be permitted to be used on Sundays and Holidays with hours of operation to be restricted from 11:00 a.m., concluding one hour before sunset. 7. All perimeter boundaries SHALL be clearly marked and posted.
13 These rules must be followed by all CHAS Members and their guests. Deviation from these rules must receive prior approval by the Society President/Executive. Deviation without prior approval may result in disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from CHAS and possibly reporting to the RCMP. 1. Range hours of operation are as follows; a. Monday thru Saturday Open 7am or one hour after sunrise(whichever is later); b. Monday thru Saturday Closed one hour before sunset; and c. Sundays and Holidays 11am until one hour before sunset. 2. Gate must be closed and locked after entering and when leaving. 3. Only members, family and guest may use the Range facilities. 4. Alcohol is not permitted on the Genesee Range site.
14 5. All members must swipe into the range prior to entering the firing area. All guests must be registered and paid prior to commencing indicating Member Name, Member Number, Guest Name and date on the fee envelope. Guests that are not yet 18yrs of age are not required to pay the guest fee however must be properly registered and accompanied by a guardian. 6. Members are responsible for their guests regardless of experience. Guests must be under DIRECT SUPERVISION by the member and/or a CHAS approved RSO at all times while on the firing line or handling weapons. Members SHALL not be shooting while their guest is. 7. It is the duty of members to inform guests that they are not allowed to use Genesee Range at any future time or event without an invitation from, and supervision of, the hosting member. Members failing to do so will face disciplinary action by the CHAS Board, and their guest(s) may face a trespassing charge.
15 8. The first person to enter the Range property will change the gate sign to RANGE OPEN 9. All members SHALL display their current membership card while on the range. 10. Flags located at each range SHALL be used. Red Flag means RANGE IS OPEN (hot) and firing can commence. Be courteous and announce prior to commencing shooting to others on the line. 11. Absolutely NO handling of firearms is permitted while persons are down range. 12. All persons while on individual ranges SHALL wear ear and eye protection while shooting.
16 13. Shooting will only take place from the shooting pad. Absolutely no shooting from in front of the shooting pad unless previously authorized by CHAS President/Executive and you are in possession of a signed CHAS Deviation Form. 14. Approved targets allowed on this range are as follows: a. Any manufactured paper, cardboard, re-sealable and plastic targets b. Hanging Steel targets made of AR500 Steel only. c. Absolutely NO ground targets are allowed on any range. Targets must be suspended and in line with the target stands located in front of range berm 15. Walking on or shooting from any part of the berm is absolutely prohibited. 16. All Range infractions must be reported to the CHAS Board or ed to webmaster@chasclub.com. 17. All members and guests are required to clean up their garbage, fired brass, shotgun hulls, used targets, and disposed of them properly.
17 18. Do not use shotguns to shoot at backboards; do not shoot over backboards; do not shoot at backboards support posts. 19. Observe and adhere to all conditions posted on the Genesee Range signs (at entrance and at every range). 20. No one will go forward of the firing line while shooting is in progress (Range is Open). 21. No loaded firearms are allowed behind the firing line at any time. 22. All holstered handguns worn behind the firing line must have the hammer down, cylinder empty or magazine removed, and verified safe as cleared and safe for holster carry by an RSO. 23. Special events are approved by the President/Executive and may take over part or all of the range. The special event organizer operates under the authority of the CHAS Board.
18 24. The last person leaving the Range property must lower the flag, change the gate sign to read RANGE CLOSED, and ensure the gate is closed and locked. 25. DELETED 26. Should an incident occur between a member and a non-member (trespasser), the member will politely ask the non-member (trespasser) to leave quietly. Should the non-member (trespasser) refuse to comply, some sort of identification (e.g., operator s license, vehicle license place, make and model of vehicle) must be obtained and recorded, including any pertinent details of the altercation. The member should then contact a member of the C.H.A.S. Board in a timely manner. The C.H.A.S. Board may then contact the RCMP to investigate the matter. At no time will any member try to physically remove the non-member,or otherwise confront the non-member other than to politely ask him/her to leave

20 Where can the Deviation Form be found? Is the gate required to be closed and locked at all times? Are guest fees required for anyone under the age of 18yrs of age?
21 It is the responsibility of all CHAS members to assist and educate newer members or shooters with respect to all range rules & procedure & to ensure they are aware of proper behavior & etiquette on our range. NOTE Shooting Positions for this section of the Rules and the signs located on the range proper refer only to the shooting lanes located at that range. It does not refer to individual shooting positions.

23 GLOSSARY Bump firing is the act of using the recoil of a semi-automatic firearm to fire multiple shots in rapid succession, which very crudely simulates the discharge of a fully automatic firearm. Ground Targets any target that is located directly on the ground and is not suspended for free movement when hit. Members Persons that have paid the current year s membership fee and are in possession of a valid membership card. Guests Persons that have been invited by a member and are properly registered and paid for on that day at the Genesee Range. RSO CHAS approved Range Safety Officer
24 The following conditions apply to ALL ranges: 1. No tracer, incendiary or armour piercing ammunition is allowed 2. All paper, wood and club approved reactive targets are allowed 3. All shooting positions approved at established distances 4. Green Flag must be raised when persons are down range. 5. Red Flag must be raised during active shooting. 6. No Bump firing. 7. Ground targets are PROHIBITED. Targets must be suspended and in line with the target stands located in front of range berm. 8. All garbage and used targets must be picked up and disposed of properly.
25 RANGE #1 200/300m 1. All long gun cartridges are allowed except for 50BMG and 20mm 2. Shotguns are only permitted with the use of SLUG ammunition
26 RANGE #2 100m 1. All long gun and pistol calibre ammunition are allowed except for 50BMG and 20mm
27 RANGE #3 25/50M 1. Ammunition originally designed for pistols and rimfire rifles only are allowed on the 25m range. If a cartridge was originally designed as a rifle cartridge (i.e.; 223 calibre) it cannot be used on the 25m portion of this range. 2. Long gun cartridge rifles may be used on the 3 most right positions of the 50m portion of the range for sighting in purposes. When on target the shooter is expected to move to Range #2 to continue sighting in. 3. NO shotguns are allowed
28 SHOTGUN RANGE 1. Only #7 ½ and 8 shot is permitted 2. Bales adjacent to the shotgun range can be used for patterning only.
