2 June 15, 2018 The 2018 Shooting Sports Camporee Committee invites you to take part in the 2018 Fall Camporee to be held September 28 September 30, The Camporee will take place at the Lead Valley Range, near Byers, CO. This camporee will feature activities mostly themed towards the BSA-approved shooting sports. Shooting sports are some of the most challenging and fun of the outdoor adventures. The 2018 Fall Camporee will allow Scouts to test their shooting skills and learn some new ones. Ranges will be set up for.22 rifle, shotgun, muzzle loading, archery and tomahawk in addition to some special events. Scouts unable to camp overnight are encouraged to participate in Saturday s program. The Camporee also offers a unique opportunity for second-year Webelos. Troops are encouraged to invite second-year Webelos to the Camporee to camp with them, participate in the events and observe Scout Troops in action. Cub Scouts and parents will have the opportunity to participate in BB rifles, archery and Sling Shot paintball. Cub Scouts, and second-year Webelos not camping overnight with a Troop, are encouraged to come for the day on Saturday. It is our intention to offer a quality Scouting program for all Scouts taking advantage of this opportunity. Come enjoy a visit to the Camporee and be prepared for a fun time. A special patch and other awards will be presented to every participant. Periodic updated information will be posted to and an updated copy of the guide will be posted here. 3 The Camporee Staff will be providing lunch for all Camporee participants. This way you will not have to return to your campsite for lunch and can enjoy more shooting sports. Lunch will be hot dogs, chips, drink and dessert. ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR TROOPS Here is the opportunity for your Troop to display its talents. We are looking for a unit to lead the opening flag ceremony and a unit to organize the Saturday afternoon campfire program. Contact DeWayne Pratt, dj_pratt@comcast.net, to volunteer your unit. Show the other troops, and the Camporee staff, how to do these programs right. We will need help at each range for things like crowd control, checking passports, etc. We are asking each unit to provide one adult per patrol to help with these kinds of things. We are striving to make this the most exciting Camporee ever and your help will make this possible. Please abide by these rules to keep the Club and Ranch Manager happy. 1. Absolutely no personal firearms, ammunition, archery equipment, etc. may be brought to the Camporee. 2. You must display this permit while on club grounds. 3. 4 DIRECTIONS TO LEAD VALLEY RANGE The Lead Valley Range is located at E. Hwy 36, Deer Trail, CO 80105, due east of Denver. From the Denver area, take I-70 E toward Limon. Take exit 316 for US-36 E toward Byers, turn left on US-36 / N Main St. Follow US-36 E to Monnahan Rd. Driving time (mapped) from Lakewood area is just over an hour, however it is out I-70 so traffic will dictate how long it actually takes. 5 FIREARMS, WHEN USED IN A SAFE AND CONSCIENTIOUS MANNER ARE A GREAT SOURCE OF FREEDOM AND RECREATION...HOWEVER, ONE CARELESS MOMENT CAN RESULT IN TRAGEDY! PLEASE, DON T EVER FORGET IT! Please review the following basic firearms safety guidelines with all the camporee participants before arriving. Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all shooters and strongly recommended for spectators. If you have your own eye and ear protection, plan on bringing it to use at the Camporee. Shooters are responsible for cleaning up after themselves. Never handle firearms until instructed to do so by the range officer. Unsafe and/or unsportsmanlike conduct may be grounds for revocation of shooting privileges. Specific rules and regulations of various disciplines will be explained and/or posted at the start of each organized shooting activity. BSA and NRA safety rules will be followed at all times. All participants will need to know these rules before they are allowed to enter a range. 1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. 2. Fall Camporee weather can vary from sunny and hot to cold and snowy, sometimes at the same Camporee. Please pay attention to weather forecasts and come prepared for all possibilities.
