4 EVENT HEADQUARTERS The event headquarters is the Dorchester Hotel, right beside the start. Rider numbers can be picked up here from one hour to half an hour before your event. These are souvenirs of the first year of the race so please keep them. The Departure Bay Ferry Terminal is only ten minutes by bike from the course so it's a good idea to leave your vehicles on the mainland and save a bundle of cash. ACCOMMODATION Dorchester Hotel: 30% off regular rates if you book through Best Western web site. The hotel has a designated bike room. Coast Bastion Hotel, Front Street. Howard Johnson Hotel. Corner of Comox Road and Terminal Avenue Ramada Inn on Terminal Avenue, about 1km from circuit. Several inexpensive motels just down from the Ramada Inn. USA RIDERS MUST HAVE A UCI INTERNATIONAL LICENCE The Master A Men category will no longer be held at provincial and regional road events in BC, nor will it be recognized as a Provincial Championship category. Male riders with Master A license may instead register in the Elite Men category for age group races, or in their ability category. For more detail, contact Cycling BC Citizen Permit holders can upgrade to a category 4 men or category 3 women licence. PRIZES Prize list is based on 200 entries in all categories. If the crowd donates prime money, this will be announced over the PA system. Primes will be signalled by a bell on the lap before each sprint.

6 5 COBBLESTONE CRITERIUM CIRCUIT The circuit is a 1.68 kilometre loop with two wide turns, two sharp turns and a couple of hairpins. Total elevation change is approximately 15 metres. Immediately after the start, there is a fast downhill section leading to a fast right bend. A hundred metres past the bend, the surface changes to fairly smooth cobbles and bends around under a footbridge and sharply up to turn on Commercial Street. Then, after crossing Bastion Street, there is a chicane and an easy climb for about 250 metres. Then there is a sharp left hand hairpin, a sharp descent and a right hand hairpin down Benson Street ( the camber takes you round safely. At the bottom of Benson Street, the course levels out and in another 100 metres turns tight onto Front Street and a stiff curving right hand climb to the finish. PIT AREA The pit area is just past the finish on the right hand side. STAGING AREA The staging area for each race is 50 metres before the start line. Riders for each event should be in this area 5 minutes before their race is due to start. Riders with notable performances will be called up first and then the remainder of the competitors by teams / clubs. LAPPED RIDERS The commissaires will pull out riders who are about to be lapped. Any riders who do not leave the course when asked to do so will be disqualified and may be subject to additional penalties. FREE LAPS One free lap will be granted for any mechanical breakage, puncture or a crash not caused by the fallen rider. There will be no free laps if there are less than 4 laps to go. BREAKAWAYS In the event of a break of two or more riders lapping the field, the field will sprint with two laps to go and the break riders should not sprint with them, but will contest the finish two laps later.

8 7 EQUIPMENT RULES UCI Rule : Only wheel designs granted prior approval by the UCI may be used. Consult the list of approved non-traditional wheels at Only standard handlebars are permitted. Handlebar extensions, including time-trial bar extensions or other types of tri-bars, are not permitted. Only bicycles conforming to UCI rules are permitted for use. Riders are required to wear jerseys corresponding to the club or team printed on their licence. Independent riders are required to wear plain-coloured jerseys with no significant logos, team names or advertising displayed on them. Sleeveless jerseys are not permitted. Riders will be issued numbers free of charge at sign in / registration, please ensure they are positioned as per the Number Placement section of this document. Please make sure to return your number set at the end of your event. There is no neutral service Wheels must be clearly marked with the rider s number, or with the rider s team name if it is intended for use by any member of a particular team, and placed in the pits before each race. The organization is not responsible for damage to wheels, even resulting from use by other riders. Per CCA rule N) At all times when participating in or preparing for an event held in Canada, all licensees who are mounted on a bicycle shall wear a securely fastened helmet that meets a recognized cycling standard for the specific discipline. Riders shall provide documented proof of this, such as a manufacturer s label, upon request by event officials GEAR RESTRICTIONS Gear restrictions will be in effect for Junior and Under-17 categories. Juniors riding in senior 1&2 race need a permission letter from Cycling BC. All riders who are subject to the gear restriction must have their bikes checked at the roll out by the pit area before their event. The top ten riders must have their gears checked after their event.

9 8 NUMBER PLACEMENT Please place numbers as indicated below PODIUM PROTOCOL Top three riders in each category please got to the podium immediately after your race. Competition wear No sunglasses or caps Second place is on the right hand side of first place (left side when taking photo) Presentation shall take place at the scheduled time Riders must attend presentation or forfeit awards ROAD CLOSURE The circuit will be closed from 8am to 3.30pm on race day. Any cars parked on the circuit between these hours will be towed to a nearby side street at no charge. PARKING Competitors may park their vehicles in one of the underground car parks off Front Street. Additional parking is available at the Port Mall and in the underground park below the Convention Centre off Gordon Street.

10 9 MEDICAL AID / FIRST AID There will be an ambulance and paramedical staff by the start line. The Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is 3.8 kilometres from the start. Proceed up Front Street, turn right on Terminal Avenue, left on Townsite Road, right on Boundary Crescent and the hospital emergency department is 600 metres up on the right. Riders who leave the circuit to get medical attention are to let one of the commissaires know and hand in their number if possible. DIRECTIONS FROM DEPARTURE BAY FERRY TERMINAL Exit the terminal and proceed along Stewart Avenue to the traffic lights. Turn left and head straight down Terminal Avenue to turn left on Front Street by the Port Mall. DIRECTIONS FROM DUKE POINT TERMINAL Exit the terminal. Proceed along Duke Point Highway and follow signs to down town Nanaimo. Turn right at Front Street by the Port Mall. DIRECTIONS FROM COURTENAY Stay on Highway 19 until first Nanaimo exit. Take Highway 19A (Terminal Avenue) Turn left at Front Street by Port Mall. DIRECTIONS FROM VICTORIA Take Trans Canada Highway to Nanaimo. Turn right at Front Street by Port Mall.
