The attached is a list of the sectional assignments, including maps and directions, and information pertaining to the championships at the Whittier Narrows and Seal Beach Tennis Center in Seal Beach. Draw sheets will be posted at the Sectionals. The 2017 CIF Southern Section Ford Girls Individual Tennis Tournament Sectionals will be conducted under the same format as that used in past years. Five sectionals will be held on MONDAY, November 20, 2017 at one of the locations listed below. School site assignments and check-in times are listed on pages 5-9 in this sectional bulletin. The winners of these matches will move on to the Round of 16 to be played at the Seal Beach Tennis Center on Wednesday, November 29, IMPORTANT: You must check the CIF-SS website on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 12 noon to see if you are one of the 8 singles or 8 doubles that will play in the Round of 32 on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Whittier Narrows. 3 RAINOUTS: If there are concerns regarding the weather, please call the tournament manager by 7:00 am. If it starts to rain after you arrive, a decision will be made at the site. Every effort will be made to play the tournament. If there is a rainout, schools should call the numbers listed on the following pages or the CIF Southern Section for the rescheduled dates and times. SCORING: Regular scoring. Prior to the third set match tiebreaker a 90-second coaching period will be allowed. ALTERNATE - As a reminder, there will be no alternates allowed after the sectionals. Athletes must be accompanied by their high school coach. No warm up courts are available at all sites. Please make arrangements off site if you wish to warm up with your players. Instructions for Bus Drivers at The Claremont Club: Enter at the NORTH ENTRANCE (see map, letter "F"), follow arrows dropping students off at the MAIN ENTRANCE (see map, letter "B") and then park on Claremont Blvd. (See enclosed map) PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE CLAREMONT CLUB PARKING LOT! ELIGIBILITY LIST: The CIF Southern Section Eligibility List can be found at under TEAMS(Girls Tennis). Please locate this roster and make sure your player(s) have been entered. Thank you. 3

4 SPECIAL NOTICE SUPERVISION OF ATHLETES The Southern Section Office has experienced a problem which has perpetuated itself over the past few years as it pertains to proper supervision and entry of student-athletes in the post-season playoffs. The situation relates only to individual sports, i.e. CROSS COUNTRY, INDIVIDUAL TENNIS, TRACK, SWIMMING, etc. and the official recognition and registration of entrants at the respective playoff sites. State and Southern Section Rule 503 states: No CIF team (i.e., individual) shall participate in inter-scholastic or approved competition with any other team unless the CIF team is under supervision as required by the California Administrative Code Title V and CIF By-Law #503A and #503B. (Additionally, refer to Rule 123.) The supervisor must remain in attendance at all times. Those persons APPROVED FOR SUPERVISION PURPOSES are limited to: A. Certificated personnel B. Certified Coaches (certified credentialed coaches) C. Non-certificated temporary coaches (certified walk-on coaches.) (It should be noted that schools representing the same DISTRICT may send one credentialed or certified supervisor for three or four athletes. These individuals have been recognized and are to continue to be recognized for registration and participation purposes in that the district has assigned the supervisory role for all students from its= member schools to this one individual.) However, the concern is for those students who ARE NOT accompanied by a faculty representative and report to the playoff site by themselves or with a parent. GIVING PARENTS THE SUPERVISION AUTHORITY, WHETHER IN WRITING OR NOT, DOES NOT MEET THE STANDARDS SET FORTH IN THE ABOVE REGULATIONS. This also applies to parents who are the student=s private coach but are not under contract to the member school. PLEASE NOTE, THIS RULE WAS REVIEWED BY BOTH THE STATE CIF OFFICE, IT=S GENERAL COUNSEL AND THE SOUTHERN SECTION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. IT HAS BEEN REAFFIRMED THAT THE INTERPRETATION STAND AS ABOVE AND THAT ANY STUDENT REPORTING FOR COMPETITION WHO IS NOT UNDER DIRECT SUPERVISION IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE AND SOUTHERN SECTION RULE 503, IS TO BE DENIED ENTRY FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE COMPETITION. As pointed out by the Southern Section and State CIF attorney, there are inherent liability problems when an individual competes in violation of said rule. Please review this rule with your staff in that it will be strictly enforced as per the above application. *COACH MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE AT ALL TIMES! 4
