It wasn t a radically modified machine, but it had some key performance parts from Wiseco and was home to some great aftermarket goodies, like an Akrapovic exhaust, great-looking UFO white plastic and all-black QTM wheels. The addition of the Wiseco R Series piston, fuel controller and the Akropovic system boosted the power over stock everywhere and added much-needed grunt down low. 58

The heart of the CRF250R is a Wiseco R Series piston that is built on dedicated boxed-strutted forgings for stiffness and minimal weight. The Wiseco R Series piston is a high-compression unit at 14.5:1 and is fully strutted and shot-peened. In the past, the R Series pistons were reserved for race teams, but Wiseco now offers them to the public. With the added boost of the high-compression piston, Wiseco installed their clutch, which features a forged clutch basket, forged inner hub and forged pressure plate with a Wiseco clutch pack. We ve tested this clutch before on CRF250s, and we love it. The action is smooth, and it held up well on both modified and non-modified bikes. To help let the motor breathe more efficiently, we used an Akrapovic titanium Evolution system with resonator cham- The graphics were done by Johnny signs and applied over some very cool-looking white UFO plastic. The all-black wheels were QTM with Excel rims and Talon hubs wrapped in Dunlop MX51 rubber. The stock front rotor was replaced by an oversized Brembo from QTM. We love the quality and finish of Akrapovic systems, and we like it on the CRF250R. CV4 white radiator hoses looked great in conjunction with the rest of the white. A loudmouth intake system was used as well. 60

The heart of the CRF250R engine was the Wiseco R Series piston. The R Series pistons offer maximum compression ratios and are built on dedicated boxed-strutted forgings for stiffness and minimal weight. The R Series are shot-peened for durability, and the rings are titanium Nitride coated rings for fast break-in, long ring life, sustained power and reduced blow-by. ArmorGlide permanent skirt coating reduces friction and offers scuff protection. Price on the pistons is $ ber. It is a clean-looking system that provided good power without damaging our eardrums. To make full use of the EFI 250F motor, Wiseco installed one of their Engine Fuel management controllers. With just a few buttons, the EFI can be tuned to suit a rider s needs. It s a cool system that is pretty easy to use. Starting the CRF250R took a little more leg power, thanks to the higher compression piston, but she still fired up within a kick or two. Out on the moto track, we noticed a harder hitting grunt off idle that pulled smoothly all the way to the rev limiter. There were no dead spots OCTOBER 2010 / DIRT BIKE 61

5 Wiseco 58-63:Layout 1 8/3/10 3:01 PM Page 6 WHITE STALLION in the power, and we could pull a taller gear or use the stronger mid power to put power to the ground consistently. The stock 2010 CRF250R is a little weak off the bottom, and the R series piston and fuel controller give the 250 a little more everywhere, including the bottom end where it really needs it. Pro-Action took a swing at the suspension on the Wiseco CRF, and if we were racing Supercross we would have loved it. It was overdone for outdoor motocross, though, and transmitted every pebble on the track straight into our bodies. The benefits of the suspension being so stiff were hitting jump faces at speed and the ability to over jump everything to flat ground and never feel the stops. It was set up for Boothy at 175 pounds, but even riders tipping the scales over 200 felt it was too stiff. Luckily, the crew at Crow Canyon kept a nicely prepped track, and the bumps were minimal. As we learn more about fuel injection, we love it more and more. The ability to quickly change timing and fuel flow is wonderful, and the Wiseco bike let us do that.
